"Do you think she's pretty?" "If you didn't know me, or I didn't exist, which one of my girlfriends/sister(s), cousins etc...would you be attracted to?" For most guys, running or faking a seizure is the best option if you hear any of these. The more experienced guy can turn this around to their benefit. If she asks you if this (insert pretty much ANY item of clothing here) makes her look fat or a part of her body fat, you can say "damn, the way that fabric hugs your butt is turning me on.....I don't think we should go out tonight...get that sweet behind of yours upstairs/to the bedroom" If she asks if you think some other woman is pretty, you say. I did indeed tell her that pant looked fiddly around her thigh. the shorts were too slim at the behind so the edge is clearly visible, which is fairly unpleasant when being in public. and certainly THAT pant made her look chubby. it instantly went on the put-it-back pile. you know, sometimes women do relate to our perspective, because they're unsure if it still suits them or just can't see things right in the mirror. sometimes they already made their decision and solely want to hear our opinion in order to know if we still care about the minor things she's confronted with.

You KNOW your wife, you KNOW she's not going to get upset if she asks you a pointed, serious question and you give her your honest answer. That said, many guys aren't in that boat. Lots of women, even married women will "sh*t test" their men. It's lose-lose for the guy if he gives an honest answer. Why play that game? Because it IS in fact a "game". Turn it around on them. Hey, I'm happy for you (truly) that you've got an honest mature woman in your life, most guys should be so lucky. But I know enough guys in relationships and who are married to know what you have is somewhat rare. Many women are used to guys from their past cheating on them or being less than honest so the current guy pays the price for what she's gone through in the past. It's wrong of her, and not fair to the current guy. He didn't do that to them. With women I've been with, I make suggestions about clothes etc.... In fact, one of the things I've found that works best is to suggest an item that they don't think they can pull off. Even if she doesn't go for it, she will see you as someone that doesn't care what she's wearing, because it's HER, not the clothes. That seems to address the insecurities you referred to.
