This Video will help you understand how your emitter and receiver or ice level sensor works on you Whirlpool or Kitchen Aid Refrigerator. The Light goes solid when the IR sensor is not being blocked by anything and will blink when it is being block. This video also shows you how to cycle the ice maker. You need to get power to it first and what you do is: Unplug the fridge for about 30 second and plug it back in. open the freezer door and the light will be off. If you close the light switch you will see it blinking. This tells you that the emitter and receiver is sending power to the ice maker and you can cycle it from there. Hope this helps you all out there.

Thanks for the video and tips on resetting this type ice maker. Near as I can tell, mine some how got out of cycle and added water with cubes still in the ice mold. This resulted in an ice plug in the filler cup and water spraying inside the freezer. I removed the IM to clear the ice plug and the mold. Since no parts looked broken I put the IM back and it filled. After over 24 hours, the IM wouldn’t eject the cubes. Then I found your video and removed the IM and followed your steps to reset the IM and cleaned the sensors. It worked for me and the IM ejected the cubes and is back working. Many thanks!

Hello thank you so much for the very informative video, I did replace the water valve yesterday and the icemaker was replaced about 3 weeks ago so it's brand new, the problem is that after replace the water valve it didn't start making ice, I did what you said recalling it by using the jumper wire and it seems to work fine, it did cycle fill up water and it cleared the ice later on, then it filled up with water again but now it just ice and no second batch of ice. Any advice what else to look for? in other words only worked one full cycle once. and thank you again for the videos and thank you for helping people out

Once you have the cover off, measure the location of the water flow-time adjustment screw and mark that location on the cover. Then after you've finished, if it needs adjustment again, you won't have to take the whole ice maker out just to adjust the water fill time. You can cover the hole with a good quality tape or a small rubber plug if you want to.

Have you watched this video? In the video it sounds like you know what you're talking about but it was hard to follow because the camera was all over the place. At times, it looking at top of the refrigerator. Place this video again but please be more aware what the camera is looking at. Thank you.

My red light on the right inside of the door… on the little control panel… is blinking all the time. It doesn’t go out like you mention in this tutorial video. However, the power was turned out for our area by the electric company one night. Perhaps that caused my ice maker to stop working. What do you think? I want to unplug as you did… just need to find a strong man to help me.. or several lady friends.

Good video. Thanks. But,,,,,, what if the light on the right flashes when door open, solid when flapper switch on left is depressed and no 120 vac across L and N on the ice maker tray…. Where do the ice maker tray wires come from. AND I have already replaced the ice maker tray assembly. Is there a fuse coming to the tray?

@@johnjustice8860 Yes I did. I ended up having to purchase a transmitter and receiver board I found on ebay. The red light now powered up but still not producing ice. I ended up discovering the receiver board wasn't working so I installed my old receiver board back in and now everything is fine. I had a hell of a time removing the transmitter board because a transistor had heated up so much that it melted the plastic around it and actually welded itself to the wall of the freezer. All seems to be back to normal now and I am greatly relieved that I don't have to replace the refrigerator. That would have been a major chore as it is in our Class A RV and I would have had to remove a side window to make the exchange. BTW: Happy New Year and be safe and stay healthy. Mike

I have an ice maker that I replace today in my Whirlpool, it looks just like the one in your video. I replaced it because it was leaking water all down the sides and food below. Too early to tell at this point, I am watching to see if replacing it worked or is the sensor telling it to fill and it over fills, how would I know?

If the flap door on the left side of the refrigerator is pressed closed, should the red blinking light on the right side panel quit flashing? If it does not stop flashing, do I need to replace the sensor? Do I need to jump start using the your wire method?

It is a sign that the sensor is not working. First clean the 2 sensors on each side with a q tip and if it still don't work that is where I would start. Replacing the Emitter and reciever.

So i checked my sensor.. all good. I changed my water filter on the bottom of the fridge and thats when things stopped working. It just stopped producing ice. Now it did drop 1 tray of ice but it took 4 days to do so and it hasnt since which its been several days. There is ice frozen in the ice maker but its not dropping. Should i jump it.. unplug it and restart it? What should i do?

The status light on our fridge never blinks or lights up at all. If I do a power reset it will blink a couple times and then never again. How did you remove the ice making unit from the holder. I can get the left side loose but not the right. Edit: have to remove the 1/4" bolt at the back on the right.

Turn adjustment screw clockwise to reduce water fill time. Turn adjustment screw counter-clockwise to increase water fill time.

Whirlpool wrv986fdem01 unplugged then plugged back in. Optic light stays on for a few minutes then goes out. I tried test#15 red light comes on 02 code comes up I placed my hand in front of sensor and code goes to 01. It seems the sensor detects empty and full during test mode. No red light when refrigerator is running. Any help is appreciated.

Man I have an issue with the same ice maker . I replaced the water valve and jumped the ice maker T and H ..the ice maker does cycle and I still get no water..would I need to replace the ice maker cause it probably not sending the command to fill with water..? The water line is not blocked and the inlet valve is brand new and I can get water thru the dispenser.. thanks any help please . 👍👍👍

Sounds like your ice maker to me. I see them fail where they don't send power down to the valve all the time.

Ok so i press the light switch and the left flapper and the red light turns off, but when i let go of the light top switch the light is steady, when i let go of the left flapper the light blinks. Is it working properly?

You may need an ice door kit. look at the hole the ice drop down through and look to see if that door is sticking open. That ice build up underneath the bucket is a sign of an air leak from that area.
