Exactly. I read an interview w/ Rodney where he talked about rehearsing every second of these appearances. He prepared for weeks as he understood the impact that these had on his career. There's one Carson clip on KZbin where he kind of bombed. It turns out a studio had pushed him to make an unscheduled visit to push a movie and he was obviously very uncomfortable.

Hopefully you're not referring to Johnny's reaction when Rodney asks him... "Well, what do you want to do now?" Because that was completely genuine. Sure - Johnny and Rodney had a routine set in advance, but that was pure improv and genuine laughter from Carson! One of my all time favorites.

Rodney Dangerfield was a little before my time, but I remember him growing up. Just started watching some of his stuff on KZbin and I think he is HILARIOUS. Clean comedy is kind of a lost art nowadays. Rodney was a master of it. I got much respect for him (R.I.P.).

We used to recite Rodney Dangerfield's jokes in school back in the 80s. Indeed like Johnny said, Mr. Dangerfield was a funny, funny man! RIP, legend!

In my Mount Rushmore of stand up comics..these guy is the first! He is the absolute true king of the one liners...bar None..and for me, it's not even close..Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams and Richard Pryor are the others on my Mt Rushmore but this guy...this guy never offended anyone except himself. Hard to walk out of a show if the only persons who he ever disparages is his family or himself. Today's comics and comedians couldn't even be his ashtray. Far and away our best comedian EVER!!!!! I miss you and your nervous twitches...

He didn't tailor his act around swearing in clubs , he used it now and then like everyone else does , it was all one line humor , and having a quick wit , very minimal swearing , that's not easy , that's why he's a legend

Great stuff! Rodney D did a 3rd variant on the breast-feeding joke. In other clips he said his mother never breast-fed him because she just liked him as a friend or that she breast-fed him with a straw. This time his mother wouldn't breast-feed him because she had a headache. The fat girl with an echo in her belly button was the best gag of many here.
