15 years in the former Dutch East Indies, I encountered a few places throughout the archipelago that did the dog. Pretty brutal. As it was explained to me, you can’t bleed them. The blood has to remain in the body so the meat doesn’t get tough. And the adrenaline helps too. So… they’re beaten to death. For the taste. I’ll try anything once. But dog is where I draw the line. Just a personal thing. No judgement. Just makes me uncomfortable. Speaking of which, my apologies to the kind folks of the Tomohon market among others. I’m sure my appearance and presence might have made some of you uncomfortable. Because I am very flamboyantly gay.
