The traveling one hit home. My husband is a school band director and the band is going to take a trip to St. Louis in May. I’m still deciding if I can, uh, want, to go because I’ll be worrying about my little dog. She’s never been boarded alone, but her doggie sister passed away a few months ago. She gets anxious in new places without her sister around. Can you tell I don’t have human kids? 😄

That's an absolutely normal worry. If you do not have people you can trust to house sit & take care of the dog. They are emotional creatures & feel that pain.

Well.... lol .... when you get a puppy you literally have to get up every 2 hours up let them out. Mine did not even sleep at night. She whined & cried & played. I had to hold her down next to my pillow so I could get at least some shut eye (not actual sleep). For months. Plus the incessant chewing when they're teething omg. Baby humans & baby dogs are not the same of course, but there is SO MUCH CARE THAT GOES INTO IT it's just impossible not to feel like you're taking care of a baby. Which you are. A baby dog. She did at my five months alert me to a space heater which caught fire on the kitchen counter. Before the fire alarm even went off. So yeah.. that was amazing. And she's just a big ole cuddle bug. Not like my other dog, who's amazing in his own ways. Totally worth it. 😄

I think it’s so ridiculous that you’re being elitist about a word. Like the other commenter said, puppies do require getting up every couple hours too, puke, poop, and pee is constantly cleaned up. You’re not better than anyone else

I’m a mom and a dog mom and I do love them both like my babies. I adopted my girl a year ago and she was a great addition to our family. With it just being me and my son it has been great, with his autism he has speech delay, and he has started using more words with the dog. She acts like the two year old she is, and is jealous when I’m cuddling with my son, which he thinks is funny. We just have a happy family, the three of us just fit together! I do get annoyed when people say that being a mama to an animal is the same as a kid when they haven’t had kids because it’s very different. You can’t put your baby in a crate and go out for three hours!

I just want to say, being a dog mom is nowhere near as difficult as a real mom. I can leave my dog downstairs for hours and she is fine. I know you can not say the same about a toddler. I personally hate that I have to call myself a dog mom, I would prefer to call myself something else but I don't like the word owner either.
