Wonderful video ! I just may add that's sad that only """famous""" (or at least known on social media) dogs and/or owners are featured here... :)

this is so cool! I would love to take Cora to this next cool level she has all the basics and a couple fun ones. What age is good for starting jumps ect? I don't want to hurt my Cora's joints! she is currently 10 months old!

+Zoe and Cora 13 months for most medium breeds. Work on low jumps on soft surfaces like sand, grass, dirt.

Amazing video, I really enjoyed it:) does anyone have first hand experience with trick training standard schnauzers? They are rare in the New England and I can't seem to find "recent" forums to join in on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated:) I understand they are different from miniature schnauzers regarding temperament from breeders I have talked to. Standards seem like such cool dogs but so rare, how come?

+Tatyana K My best advice, being a trainer..... a dog is a dog. All breeds have their own dispositions in terms of specific behaviours, but they all train the same! Some just take longer on certain behaviours and have different reinforcements, which is all up to personality. There are quite a few standard schnauzers where I live :)

Trick training is easy. Who wouldn't teach dogs these kinds of tricks without a positive approach? This is not the issue amongst dog owners today where it says "the power of positive reinforcement training". Because that's EASY to accomplish when you just want to teach cool tricks. But get REAL, you can't be positive every second of every day. The issue is that most owners make themselves look so terrific performing these really neat tricks yet they fail to act like a pack leader the rest of the time: setting rules, boundaries and overall discipline which dogs thrive upon having in their everyday lives and very sadly, in this ridiculous day and age, the majority of dog owners are too busy humanizing their dogs and feeling "sorry" for them, therefore they get away with everything. But to the outside world, they make their dogs look perfectly well behaved while performing these tricks!

+chesteroctber15th Good dogs have good relationships with their owners, simple. And yes, you can do trick training using positive punishment and negative reinforcement, which is what most circus's do. So the fact that these tricks were positively trained, means a lot, mainly because it's a show of the time and effort the human puts in to a wonderful relationship. If you want to be "pack leader" then it's none of my business, do as you please, I don't know why you feel the urge to go onto this and spout off how horrible positively trained dogs are, that's just kind of weird. IMO.

+Kristin Crestejo (Modern Canine Training) You have of course misunderstood my point. I'd like to see these dogs in other environments and situations and see how powerful the "positive reinforcement training" is then. I'll bet the majority of these dogs are not as well behaved as the video shows them to be, just because they can do amusing tricks.

+chesteroctber15th If you go onto their sites and social media, you'd get your answer. Amusing tricks are behaviours, taught the exact same way as obedience cues, the only difference is the word you use. Training a behaviour is training nonetheless. It wouldn't make sense why we would take all this time with these behaviours but skip obedience and manners? "I'll teach my dog a behaviour that takes months to perfect, but screw it, I'll let them jump up and run everywhere at all other times.."

+Kristin Crestejo (Modern Canine Training) Exactly - you wouldn't expect to see that would you? Sadly it's what I see far too often. I see very insecure dogs for example that do so well with activities such as agility, but outside of agility and you see a very different dog (and the owner does nothing to correct or rectify the behaviour).

Yeah. You're just wrong. Tricks are no different from any other behaviour we teach. A behaviour is a behaviour, whether that's lying in your bed being calm or chasing a frisbee. Domestic dogs are not pack animals and do not have an 'alpha' so why would you want to be a 'pack leader' to a species that doesn't know what that even means ? Modern dog training is based on the science of learning - operant conditioning (BF Skinner) and classical conditioning (Pavlov's dogs). We use positive reinforcement and negative punishment to teach our dogs. We try and avoid using any kind of force. All my dogs are rescues and 'difficult' cases - all now perfectly behaved (most of the time !), not one 'correction' used. In fact I've had to counter condition certain things they have been heavily corrected for in the past. The best thing about force free training is the confidence it builds in the dog because they learn they can control the environment with good decisions. You should look up people like Ian Dunbar, Sophia Yinn, Patricia Mcconnell, Emily Larlham, Grisha Stewart and many other modern trainers.
