On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

That first dogfight, once you got the advantage and were sort of on his six, he was defending amazingly, very impressive. The number of times he went in front of you but dodged your nose by a fraction of an inch, over and over again, insanely well played defense by him. Unfortunately it couldn’t last forever, but I think his maneuvering was spectacular and one of the funnest things I’ve seen in the channel.

GS may deny this but... It's the F-14 and this pilot. He has the chops to manage this bird very well. I believe the first to use differential thrust or at least master it's capibities. Plus, it's a massive plane and he throws it around like a jet 2/3 smaller. Curious, I wonder how many hours of estimated air time he has in it. GS ?....

I used to hate the F-14. It's all shaky and noisy and old seeming. But now I get it, for all its rough handling its' abilities are awesome once you get a feel for it. Other aircraft are like "this fast, this maneuverable", but the F-14 be anything depending on how you handle it.

I am amazed by how you handle this old girl, the F14 shaking like a dryer on full rpm and still you avoid to stall out. Is there a stall warning alarm in jets? Anyhow, fantastic flying. You are handling this bird like a pro. I know Longshot has been practising flying the F14, with throttle turns and all. Could be fun to watch you two test out your F14 skills against eachother in a dogfight.

It would be interesting that you switch with the jets, apparently the Rafale's pilot isn't using the full capacities of the plane. Yeah, that Rafale definitely does have maneuverability on its side, definitely really beneficial for BFM. F-14 has a lot of speed, so that comes in handy with BVR.

In this case it is also the plane, because the fact F-14 is not fly-by-wire and its flight characteristics allows a pilot to do more tricks and push the Tomcat to the limit if he knows well the Tomcat, a thing modern fighters with fly-by-wire don't allow to a pilot.

Quite interesting watching this dogfight, `cause I heard of this anecdote long, long time ago when the French Rafales had DACT with a US CVBG airwing that happened to have a mix of Tomcat, Hornet, and Super Hornet squadrons onboard. Tomcats were supposedly the ones easier to kill while both Hornets, particularly the legacy Hornet were the ones giving the French much trouble. Then again, it`s just an anecdote, so plenty of salt is required.

One thing that is preposterous about the F-14, is the forward quarter visibilty. Those huge cockpit struts covers up a critical amount of solid angles from the pilot's view that makes an manuverable uncooperative bandit pointlessly difficult to put in the hud.

Quick tip, you can gain some extra speed and altitude if you keep your flaps up then dump them mid turn if you need the extra lift.

thats basically how it goes lol, once they get to the control zone the fight is basically over. them getting to the control is the finishing move, really the fight was over a few turns before that. As long as he does everything right he should win every time sitting in your control zone. Only chance you have is to nose counter, and force an overshoot and again...if he does everything right even that will not work.

I believe the piece on the right near the canopy is the canopy jettison toggle. (Blows the canopy only, no seat fire) And the two little triangles on the left and right (might) be the engine fire extinguisher toggles. Anything black and yellow striped like that is part of the "oh shit" system.
