If you want the proper lock lubricant, use graphite powder. It won't attract dirt to lock mechanisms like an oil would. Graphite lubricant is the correct choice for locks.
@themykeshow90273 жыл бұрын
Exterior door locks have a pressure plate thats pretty effective at keeping dust & muck out. Interior ignition keyways are always inside your car, so they don't get (much) exposure to dust either. WD-Forty is fine for these applications. Yes, graphite *is* a generally preferable lubricant for *most* locks, but for the applications Scotty mentions here, the difference is insignificant.
@jonathanmueller28493 жыл бұрын
Feel free to tell me if I'm wrong, but I'd be concerned about graphite's conductivity while using it for my car. I'd be less worried about the door locks than the ignition, if there's any electronics in there you might fry them.

I'm a locksmith and I highly recommend WD-40. Especially when your lock is already corroded. But WD-40 will dry up in a couple months so you have to keep constantly using it all year. But for long lasting lubrication I actually recommend fluid film. Fluid film is also a dialectic so I recommend spraying it on your battery terminals to prevent corrosion. The longest so far is 15 months that I sprayed a lock and it was still inside it when I pulled it apart. Alot of people coat the whole underneath of their vehicle with fluid film especially during the winter before the rock salt comes out. Also lawn mowers and snow blowers buckets To prevent clumping..

I live in Phoenix, so rarely have a need to displace water. However, I still use WD-40 for all kinds of stuff - just recently to get paint transfer off my car from where my daughter scraped a post in a public garage. Worked great!

Don't buy blue washer fluid til it frosts. If ur oil service doesn't fill the resv., mix a couple drops of Dawn dish soap, white vinegar 1/2 cup, with H2o to fill. Removes bugs, stinks like douche 😂, and backs off tailgaters. Lol

I use this stuff all the time. I had a squeaky bedroom door hinge, used WD-40 and my door hasn't made a sound in about 2 years. Use it on my car keys and lock like in the video. Has all original keys and ignition in a 91 buick and nothing gets stuck. Drawer slider wheel creeking? WD-40. That's stuff is all around great.

I was so betting the end of the video would be a lock smith showing up to fix both lock cylinders because Scottie shorted them out with the WD-40. That would have been hilarious 🤣. No for real though WD-40 does work great on many automotive needs. One of my personal favorites especially on newer vehicles spray it on a rag and wipe all the door seals "weather stripping" because winter time heat from inside the car will cause moisture leading to the doors freezing shut. WD-40 allows your doors to stay frozen free up to like negative 40 or 50 i believe. Great Video Scottie.
