A ceiling fan will circulate all the warm air up at the ceiling and keep the whole shop at a even constant heat. With out a fan all the hot air will go up to the ceiling and the ground floor will remain cold and burn more pellets to get it warm.

You really need to decide on a heat source for your in floor heat. I use Propane. Once operating you'll heat the slab and when you open a garage door and close it the recovery is quick. Set it at a low temp, like 45 or 50 and use the pellet stove to bring the temperature up when you're working. You'll never regret it. I keep my garage at 55 and it's quite comfortable for work. If I'm working a long sleeve shirt is often enough to keep me comfortable.

Used pellet stoves for 20 years. First one was a manual start with manually filling the burn pot and using a gell starter every morning. Finally got an auto-start stove and moved the manual start to the garage/workshop. After a stroke, had to get rid of the stoves because my wife could not handle 40lb bags of pellets. Loved the stoves though. Had a wood stove for backup for the really cold days.

Al, I would recommend getting wall mount propane boiler for back up: Easy to install, no mess inside, and you could run it off 20 lb tanks if needed. Rianni makes a combo boiler that will also do hot water. This is what I use & I have radiant floor heat. I installed the boiler myself so its not very difficult & I am sure you would have no problems. Don't forget to add Sentinal X100 to your boiler loop to stop the corrosion issues (I can see the rust build up in your system installed in the home).
@rupe533 ай бұрын
a wall mount propane boiler was his original game plan. We'll see what he eventually settles on. BTW, in his climate a 20 pound propane tank may frost up in cooler weather due to high fuel draw. More than likely he will go with larger tanks when the time comes.
@guytech73103 ай бұрын
@@rupe53 I was thinking for emergency use & keep the 20 lb tank in his utility room.
@rupe533 ай бұрын
@@guytech7310 yeah, but keeping / storing propane inside is not a good idea. Besides, if he's gonna use propane anyway, he might as well buy it cheaper in quantity and in a larger tank outside. I believe he's got a 500 gallon tank buried at the house so he knows the deal. BTW, I'm amazed he hasn't consider an inexpensive gas heater as a back up at the house. Flip a switch and done. Takes up 2 sq ft, which is less than the stove. Can also use a similar chimney.
@guytech73103 ай бұрын
@@rupe53 Well like I stated for an emergency use. Tank can be stored in a Shed or the workshop building, & brought inside when neeeded. I have buried 1000 gal propane tank outside, but have my boiler set up so I can use a 20 lbs tank inside. When I was building the house I used the 20 lbs tanks with a forced air Propane burner. No issues. Had a CO monitor, but it never went off.
