no adjustments for the 1/2 and full flush volumes? It might be wroth while cleaning the ring of calcium buildup that typically restricts flow from beneath the top of the bowl - or is that not an issue in the UK?

Hi Do It All Dan. I need a little bit of advice please! I've just replaced my flush, bit easier as cistern inside a cupboard. However it turns out that the outlet pipe is a fraction smaller than the flush outlet thread. So water leaks into the bathroom. Is there a quick fix for this like a seal with flange to go inside pipe and under flush in cistern, or do I need to replace the plastic outlet pipe? Thank you so much if you, or anyone else can help!

I have same valve fitted with black top. Just got replacement with white top are they interchangeable? The white one can be twisted anticlockwise to separate from the bottom pipe. If they fit each other then I could just twist old one out and put new one in its place. I'm not sure if old one can be separated in that way. It would save a bunch of time by not having to remove bowl.

I’ve got an issue with my flush valve where it must be letting water into the bowl as every so often the fill valve is opening and sending more water into the tank. The main guts of the flush valve just twist off so I swapped them with our upstairs toilet one but still no joy. I have recently swapped the fill valve and it seems to be adjusted correctly. I’ve messed up, I haven’t got wing nuts on mine.. I’ve undone two bolts that hold the cistern to the toilet but they aren’t coming off… the flush down pipe is now loose, I can’t get the cistern off to replace the new flush, the toilet is one with hidden fixings… will I need to cut the bolts off? Or will I have to remove the whole toilet? Heeellpp, I should have bought a replacement flush cartridge but now it’s too late 😢

Been working on mine today too and the two bolts came off (wing nuts underneath) but couldn't take off the cistern. Then discovered the large plastic nut underneath the cistern that holds the flush in place. Came off straightaway then. Hope that helps 🇬🇧
@barrystuckey8957 Жыл бұрын
The only problem is it’s not accessible…the whole toilet bowl is flush to the wall so there’s no way to get under and get the wing nuts, I’m imagining the bolts are those kind that expand when you tighten them… but they just keep spinning when trying to undo them?? And there’s no way to get the cistern off as it’s flush to the bowl. 😢

Great video. Any tips on removing X2 rusted wall screws inside the cistern ?
@PlumbingGy5 жыл бұрын
There is a few things you could try, coat it in WD40 for about 15mins or so give them a go. If that fails you may have to use a large hacksaw blade behind the cistern (painfully slow) but effective. If you can grip them with some locking pliers? That may be a option, I wouldn't use a blowtorch to heat them as it could damage the back of the cistern. If all else fails carefully drill the heads off and remove or use a screw splitter, (not ideal ways but last options). Hope this helps

I've only worked on toilets in maybe 10 houses in my life, but it's interesting to me because: 1) I've never seen toilets where they were hard-piped in rather than using flex-hose 2) I've never seen the tank bolted to the wall before. I've only ever worked on toilets in the States, so I'm wondering if this is a Code thing that is required elsewhere.

No not code, just good practice and really standard. Flexi hoses are used often but I personally find it unnecessary and untidy when it looks so much better hard piped with ab isolation valve. Thanks for the comment 👍🏻😁

But didn't tell us, or show, us which way round little ridges are supposed to face... towards the cistern or towards the valve? which is the right way!! @@PlumbingGy That's the least helpful response I've ever seen to a perfectly reasonable question. There's a round rubber washer that goes between the flush and the cistern. One side of the washer is flat, the other has grooves in it. It could go on either with the grooves upwards, towards the flush, or with the grooves down towards the cistern. You say to make sure it's on the right way, don't say which is the right way, and then give a meaningless and unhelpful reply when someone asks.

“This one doesn’t need it but the customer is happy to be charged a call out fee plus 20% on parts” Terrible service The customer NEVER knows what’s best when it comes to plumbing. Edit: customer has clearly bought the parts otherwise they’d have bought a donut. I’d have walked from that job hours ago. You’ll be back next week when the issue isn’t resolved and they’ll blame you because you were the last person to touch it. The reason that toilet is knackered is because the customer is putting those damn cleaning blocks in the cistern. Still, if the customer wants to pay relentlessly who am I to say no to easy money.
