This guy is very generous to show his ways and how he plays it and then gives a lesson after. He doesn’t hide nothing so thanks for the help. Your lessons literally help me learn my favorite songs, I’m not the best player and your videos made me an ok guitar player! God bless!

Its like George teaching it. So awesome. Use to play a lot of Dokken with my BF in HS who I haven't seen in over 30 years. So we are cranking up our Dokken chops again. I remember trying to learn by ear without slowing it down and knew there was something not right or the tab didn't make sense. So we'd get close. Thank you for this!

I know I'm about 4 years late to the party, but, that "stretchy" lick thing is actually picked. George Lynch picks those notes on the studio recording. In the music video he initially picks it and then does a one handed hammer/pull .. but in reality on the studio recording he actually picks the entire thing. If you listen very carefully, or slow it down and listen, you can hear the pick hitting the string.

Currently playing guitar in a metal cover band for the first time since 1980 something. My urge for learning other guy's solos is really low to say the least. You have helped make the process a lot less painful. This little lesson just saved me a few hours of hunting and pecking (or picking in this case). Thank you!!!!! Also, your manners are perfect for teaching. Keep up the great work.

Don't get me wrong...I met George years ago after a Lynch Mob show and he was so humble and gracious that I walked away feeling like I had just experienced the most uplifting event of my life in terms of guitar playing. He asked my name and said that I was "about to have the most anti-climatic moment of my life" meeting him after 17 years of enjoying his music. He then completely blew me and my buddies away by stating that when being that humble "You really need to be when you suck as much as I do." That cemented our undying dedication to George's unassailable position as genuine guitar hero. If you aren't humble you're a jackass, and he's no jackass!😅

Without a doubt, GL is a beast to the guitar. Great solo Jay, a challenge. I love those bendings so extreme, whenever I hear it I can not help moving my fingers as if it were me who made them. Madness the notes that comes to play in a moment in the fret 12, it is impossible for me to separate so many fingers in that part of the solo. Very cool Jay

GREAT lesson.....THANK YOU! Tried for a few days to do the stretchy, crazy, singled handed tapping lick with my thumb resting over the top of the neck as usual......that didn't work too well........DUH! Behind the 12th fret helped a little but after watching you and putting it down low behind the 15th fret....VOILA! So much easier to play. Now if I could just get it up to speed....have a great day! :-)

Kudos, Jay, for providing a wonderful service to aspiring guitarists. You are a great player as well. The In My Dreams solo won best solo of the year in 1987, I believe, Guitar For The Practicing Musician. That descending run alludes everybody. It is : /20 20 20p19p17; B string: 19 20p19p17; G string: 19 17; B string: 21p20p19p17; G string: 19 17 19 16 17p16; D string: 19; A string: 19 vibratoed. It is primarily legato, and that major 3rd ( a George Lynch trademark) G# on the 21st fret B string really heightens the drama:-)
@jayguitar

@gregorydickman940

+Jay Parmar Yes, it is a bear. lol Jazz/Rock guitarist Ric Molina transcribed it really accurately in 1987, only he put the major third on the 16th fret of the high E string ( utilizing a "diagonal Barre" with the index finger covering the 17 the fret G string and then hitting the 16 the fret on the high E, which also works I suppose). The thing is, slowed down on Tempo App to a mere 20%, you can hear that 21p20p19p17 legato smear, which gives the run it's magic. It is just so hard. George never played it that way again. I've even wondered if he even played that solo in the studio! lol

That’s a great attempt but a real challenge would be to play it straight out of the amp with no DELAY.. compression or heavy eq ..just the sound or warm tube amp distortion screaming thru humbuckers . The notes really stand out with that setting

Thanks for checking out the video David. Actually that is how I played this - no compression, no EQ, no tricks - just me plugged into a Friedman pedal, amp and then my fingers. Anyways, enjoy and have a great day.

First of all, wow dude!!! This is one of those solos that you hear people "butcher" over the years, and you begin to wonder if ANYONE but George can play the damn thing...... well, I just found someone who CAN play it, and his skills have taught me the solo as well!!! Thanks mate !!!

I've seen 20 videos of George playing it live (even in instructional videos) and he can't play it right. Seems to be the kind of guy who forgets what he played 20 minutes after the studio session and has to relearn some vaguely similar riffs to go on tour.

Jay parmar, your channel is great and you've won a subscriber, i just want to know which amplifier is best suited for 80's metal and rock, i like the rawness of thrash metal and the creamy distortion that goes along with hair/glam metal, i just can't afford a jcm 800 for the time being, i'm still a student but i have enough money for mid range amp, would a peavey 6505 combo do the job?
@jayguitar
@jayguitar 7 жыл бұрын
Hey dude, thanks so much for the sub! Welcome! And thanks for the props as well - it much much appreciated my friend! 6560 is an excellent amp! I still remember plugging into one many years ago and it just had that tone! Wow! Many versatile amps around right now dude - just depends on budget. Even the Egnater Tweaker amps are worth looking at - low money but packed with feature and Bruce Egnater is a genius when it comes to tone. Others you can check out are the BluGuitar AMP1 that I use - that runs at about £550 but you'd need to buy a cab as well so you'd probably get it for a similar price as the 6560 combo - AMP1 will do Fender to Plexi to JCM800 to Solano - its amazing. The Randall Diavlo amps are great for high gain sounds so worth checking out :) Hope that helps and any other Qs feel free to ask or message me via my website :) Enjoy and have an amazing day!

Hello jay thanks for reverting back, the egnater seems great and bang for buck but what would be your take on the jet city jca100hdm, its like 100 dollars cheaper and i really like the blue led light behind the grille, it has great aesthetic and looks really metal ? I'm about to order one and a cab on thomann, i think the amp is suited for 80's rock and metal but would just want your opinion before going forward. Do you think i will encounter any problems with the amp, especially regarding durability and quality ? I've seen the diavlo too but i won't have enough money then to get a cab. cheers
@jayguitar
@jayguitar 7 жыл бұрын
Wow! The Jet City! One I totally forgot - the number of time I have almost bought one! That will do the job man! Its a great amp - based on the circuit of the famed Solano SLO100 - and there are plenty of mods that will allow you to get it closer to the sound of the SLO (which is a £3500 amp). Yep - that one will do it for sure!!! :) I have that sound covered with my AMP1 and friedman pedal and also my DT25 heads which is why I never bought one but from what I've heard, they are great amps :)

@jayguitar Ай бұрын
Hey dude, glad you enjoyed the lesson and it was helpful. Always good to hear it’s still helping people after all these years! I appreciate it. That’s a great Q which a few people have asked over the years. Jeff Pilson revealed in an interview some years ago that the band used to tune to piano pitch, basically playing the middle A on a piano and tuning to that, which is actually somewhere between standard E tuning and half step. Hence when you try and play to the record, our guitars sound out of tune! lol! Anyways, I hope that helps. Enjoy the other videos and check out some of the latest vids too, I’m sure you will enjoy the contents. Have an awesome day!

Hi Jay. Is there a particular scale pattern that George typically follows? Thanks in advance!
@jayguitar
@jayguitar 6 жыл бұрын
Great Q - its actually really difficult to classify george's playing in that way as he tends to start with major, minor or pentatonic scales then finds the outside notes around those - so depending on how he's feeling on the day, it changes :) Best way to learn his style imo is to learn as many licks and solos by GL as you can and then start to magpie from them and come up with your own combinations. Thats that way I did it :) Have a great day :)

Hello Jay, What effects are u using here? I'm learning this on an epiphone les Paul and a Marshall amp, maybe my fretts are worn down, or maybe it's me lol. Having a hard time the harmonics at the beginning of the solo Thanks
@jayguitar
@jayguitar 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff, very few effects - just delay and reverb on the guitar tone. I usually dial in quite a high gain tone which makes it a little easier to get pinch harmonics. You can check out the setup that I was using at the time on this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJealZSqhLeUp9U - it has since changed (now I use one of my tube amps and maybe a boost pedal depending on the amp). Have an awesome day.

@jayguitar
@jayguitar 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Leonard! Much appreciated 😊 Sure, ofr tapped harmonics, make sure you tab right above the fret - you're essentially tapping/aiming for the fret wire itself 😊 It does take some practice but once I had that down, it made the tapped harmonics easier to achieve 😊 Hope that helps! Have an amazing day man!

Hi Jeff, hows it going? Yes totally fine to do it without the harmonics - they are tricky to get. Technique to get them is to tap right above the fretwire. Hope that helps. Have an amazing day!

@jayguitar

Hey dude, thanks so much! 😊 On the video the delay during the Playthrough is Soundtoys Echoboy added at the mix stage in Cubase. You can check out that full signal chain on this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJealZSqhLeUp9U - On the explanation I think I was still using a Line 6 POD HD500X and I think I used to use the analog delay with modulation (I sold the unit some years ago). And now, playthroughs I still use Soundtoys - with my amps my favourite delay is the Catalinbread Belle Epoch 😊 Hope that helps! Have an amazing day!
