Every day I get so many emails and comments asking why you can’t locate the music I use or find it using Shazam. I purchase music licenses for almost all the music you hear in my videos. I buy them them from various royalty-free production music sites and most of the time they don’t list the performer because it’s music made only for film productions with an audio watermark throughout the entire track, unless you purchase the single-use license for $50-100 per track. I use a lot of opera so often I’ll reference the opera but I won’t be able to direct you to a recording of that specific performance that you could stream or buy on iTunes or Spotify. Hope that clears things up and thank you for appreciating quality music.

In her memoir "Jennie's Diary: The Aussie from Posi" Jennifer Hanlon, who moved to the Amalfi coast in the 60s I believe as a young woman, also shares some interesting stories and photos from a time when Positano was slowly being 'discovered' by tourists and how life was there in the 60s and 70s. She still lived in town when the book was published a couple of years ago as an expat from Australia. It was a very interesting read and is available on amazon (print on demand).

Kylie, I love that you make these types of videos. I loved the interview. Believe it or not, I do believe that many people who visit these beautiful places which are full of rich history, want to know more of the history behind all the beautiful architecture or culture. I took my son to England and Spain in summer 2023 and he was 14 years old. He was so impressed with the architecture of the buildings. He wouldn’t stop asking how things were made and I don’t think I did a good enough job explaining the hard work put into these buildings (Sagrada Familia, Parque Guell, Casa Batllo, all the castles we visited in England, etc.) it in a way that he would understand. Our youth would never understand how hard people back in the day worked to make these places so beautiful because our generations have made things so easy. I think it’s important to talk about these things and I love that you share a lot of your challenges in renovating your home. It shows how much work has to be done in preserving those beautiful structures built by our ancestors. It’s also nice to see that not everything can be done so easily; even in this day and age. Thank you for sharing Maurizio’s story and a little bit of the Amalfi history. I LOVED it!!!❤

I think often a legacy of poverty and struggle is deliberately left behind because of generations of shame. The book is a beautiful capture of human endurance. I stayed in Praiano and climbed to the convent that was built a thousand steps above. The monolithic effort of the people to carve out survival in such rough terrain is worthy of documenting, and praise for the strength and courage is long overdue. Yes a stunningly beautiful place, but also a place of warmth in its people who now work SO hard to please the tourists. Also, not an easy task!

I have spent countless summers looking on that goodly sea and walking the Sentiero degli Dei through Sorrento, Amalfi, Praiano, Positano... The earth sits in a very particular kind of way in those parts and the very sunlight seems to almost take a step back to admire where it lights. You can still hear the crashing echoes of imperial ships in Punta Campanella and almost feel the long reverberations of the memory of the temple of Minerva atop mount San Costanzo. And the epic saga of Aeneas' ship plays itself out before you as you look down on the bay of Ieranto and Capri keeping watch in the majestic waters. And the sweet smell of coffee with lemon peel mixes with the salt air and the deep plump perfume of the fig trees. And all the world seems to remember things that now no man can tell but only surmise.

Hi, I visited that area of Italy during the 1960s. It was lovely as it is today but definitely not as crowded. I was able to visit the fountain of Trevi and toss my coin without interference. You just walked right down. The last time that I was there was in 2006 and we couldn’t get through the crowds. That was true in many places but nowadays it’s even worse. I have seen images posted by recent visitors and I just can’t believe it. During the 1960s, it was mostly Americans visiting Europe. Now is the world visiting places like Italy. I can honestly say that I’m glad to have traveled earlier in my life. It was just wonderful and much safer. Thank you for this great video. I think that visiting countries without knowing the history is sinful. Looking at the pretty places is not enriching traveling unless you are informed about how those places developed and who did the development. Wonderful video.

What a lovely man Maurizio is, we will look for his book here in Italy. The same applies to our home on Lake Como. There is so many centuries of history here that are largely ignored. A local taxi boat owner was interviewed by the local media this week. He said so many tourists ignore the villas and villages and simply want to take a selfie of themselves out on the lake to post on social media. Local residents are slowly moving away from villages. In some villages the majority of homes are now short term rentals and become ghost towns for much of the year. History and the stories of so many generations of people who worked so hard as artisans, farmers and fishermen are being forgotten. Composers like Verdi who composed on the lake are largely forgotten. Now everyone just wants a Spritz and a Selfie. . It’s very sad. Maria e Rowan

Oh, this will be fun! I love to watch videos from your THE DOLCE VITA DIARIES. And others from that time period. So cinematic and so different from more current videos. They got me thinking about the music from the 1960s; and I found and fell in love with Piero Piccioni, a composer of Italian cinema soundtracks. Every time I listen to him, I think of you. I’m understanding and relating to Kylie’s overview and the sadness to a history that is disappearing, the new generation is fixated on deleting the European history/culture and calling us “privileged white” when the fact is that most Europeans were extremely poor and had to work a hard life to even exist. Amalfi coast and the rest of Italy, just like my relatives in Sicily up in the mountains. I too found this video very sad, knowing the stories and the histories of so many towns and cities. Relatives and neighbours working together to survive, children dying from malnutrition or sickness, seeing those coastal properties resembling my homeland properties on sides of winding mountains, no cars, maybe a shared donkey amongst the town really hit home. My mother in her last years suffering from worn discs in her neck and back from carrying water and grass for their animals on her head for miles up and down the mountain from the age of 9. This is our heritage, this is where we came from and who we are, Amalfi and the rest of Italy is rich in history and the richest history that made Italy was the humblest, poorest and the unprivileged people. Watching this video gave a tear to the eye, those memorable photos through the tough and challenging conditions that made the town what it is today for us all to enjoy is forgotten. When you go to these beautiful towns, stop and remember that it was the people of our past that lived and died for what we have today and they didn’t survive because they were privileged but survived because they were fighters and believed in one another side by side in unity and is why we are alive today. Remember your past, remember the fight and remember that you came from tough and strong survivors but most importantly continue the stories and memories. 🇮🇹🙏🏼

If not for others who have preserved history, much would be lost forever. In Hawaii, the people found that with influx of people relocating here much of the land that had contained remnants of Sugar Mills and other old building construction from early settlements of local people were being destroyed. They finally set up restrictions to protect the history.

i adore the intro to this series, i know it by heart and it brings me so much joy! i hope in the future there could be more such interviews and explorations as i find them essential to experience and so eye opening in the fast paced times we’re in and the kind of superficial approach we might take to travelling as a consequence Maurizio’s passion project warmed my heart and reminded me of a hike I did in Lanzarote, The Camino de Los Gracioseros trail, and reading about how it was a route that was formerly used for social and commercial exchange between La Graciosa and Haría. The women of La Graciosa used to transport baskets loaded with fish and salt through this area, products that they exchanged for other basic necessities. As I was sweating down and up the trail in comfortable clothes, with enough water and food and a very light backpack, I kept thinking how lucky I am and felt a mix of sadness, joy, owe and appreciation for those women, could hardly imagine how it was for them but I felt their presence and thought about that every moment. When I got up the trail to the starting point and witnessed the most magical sunset I wondered if they ever had any energy left, at the end of the day, to take a moment and enjoy the sunset too.

I went there 24 years ago and we found it very busy and crowded, so what it’s like now must be not be pleasant to visit any more to view the beautiful coastline. It’s okay if you are used to crowded places. I am not, also all the pickpockets in these tourist places , mainly Eastern European countries they come from . Such a shame as it spoils the experience that tourists wish to see and enjoy.

Kylie, I have read a San Michele book, and from there I also learned, that Capri as well was a very poor place. It is unbelievable that is completely opposite now, but the change occured due to Jackie Kennedy and similar travellers, who had money in 50s60s.
