I had the pleasure of seeing Dolly live in Saskatoon back in the 70s. She had Faron Young as her opening act, Faron made some disparaging remarks in regards to Dolly's attributes. he never made another appearance on the stage after the first act, Dolly did the whole show alone. was wonderful!! Somewhere about the mid point of the whole program, she split the side seam in her outfit, prior to going for repairs she went to the mike and said quite simply, "my dad's going to tell me that, that's what happens when you try to put ten pounds of spuds in a five pound sack"! One of the best live shows I ever attended!!

I stumbled upon seeing Dolly perform for a few minutes in the mid-70's. I had gone to a local community college (in San Jose, CA) to see a Jacques Cousteau movie and on the way out to the car afterwards we heard music playing in a smaller auditorium - a few hundred people most. Think folding metal chairs type of event. A door was open so we peeked in and watched her for about 10 minutes. I hadn't heard of Dolly at the time but I truly enjoyed watching her, in part because of how happy and bubbly she was...exactly the same today, 45+ years later. I found out her name as we got towards the parking lot; her bus was out front with her name on it.

I've never been into country, but have always really admired Dolly as a songwriter and entertainer. She is so smart and funny, but it's almost her secret weapon, while some are distracted by how flashy she is. She has remained genuine and kind, despite being rich and famous for so long. I got to see Dolly on tour about 8 years ago she was amazing. Sounded great and she was entertaining and hilarious the whole time. She had commented just before she started playing a grand piano that she wanted to play an instrument that would actually make her butt look smaller. 😂 Her voice and show was amazing. My parents retired in Knoxville. We got to see her in Dollywood and she came out and invited a bunch of folks over to have a bbq with her. That’s who she really is. A Real human being.
