I’m from Appalachia, I’ve never heard of people eating possum but people used to eat squirrel brain gravy. I never had it but my friend’s grandma used to make it for her. My friend wasn’t aware it was squirrel brain gravy and actually loved it. After she found out what it was made of, she never ate it again.

I'm a California kid. We moved to Tennessee when I was a little girl after my grandfather died. I never knew we were eating squirrels that my cousins hunted for until I was older and back in California. I always thought we were just getting lucky eating chicken and dumplings for dinner or fried chicken. My mom knew what a picky kid I was a kept it a secret until I was older.🤣
