What fun! Thanks for posting! This was Dolly's first number 1 hit. I was in grade school at the time and really loved it. That's Buck Trent on lead guitar, he was still performing a few years ago but he may be retired by now. Spec Rhodes on bass fiddle, he used to do comedy routines and tell some really funny bad jokes. And that's Mac Magaha the dancing fiddler, he had a stroke and passed away in the 80's. They were all part of Porter Wagoner's band The Wagoneers. Porter was The Wagonmaster...I just bet he was! Great memories :)

Robert Diehl you are correct. RAP stands for "Rhythm and Poetry." So yes, blues & country music dawned RAP.
@VIDSTORAGE9 жыл бұрын
***** Yes ,those two branches of American music did use a lot of reciting of rhyming poetry with the rhythm...The ol tune Big John from the early 60s is a great example,Johnny Cash did a;lot also in his songs..Bob Dylan,Jerry Reed,BB King , Bobby Bare,and quite a few others did it way before the 80s rap gangsters made it popular.. ...

They are telling a story not rapping. There isn't any rhyming. She's just talking. Rapping is taking one song and transforming it into something else. She's not doing any of that here. Rap is so different from what came before that it's a totally different artform.

A great song written and sung by Dolly Parton. The camera light seems strong in her face so she is uncomfortable. Remember, they were touring most of the year. P.Wagoner said in an interview that in that time, they could do 200 shows on the road without a break. Imagine that, plus all the other things in her life going on. She was and still is a highly gifted woman, but above all a professional with grit and respect for all. She never got into drugs etc, always said her work was too important.

Well a good way down the rail-road track, There was this little old run down shack And in it lived a man I'd never se-e-e-een Folk said he was a mean and a vicious man And you'd better not set foot on his land But I didn't think nobody could be that mean So I took me out walking down the rail-road track I was gonna go down to that little old shack An' just find out if all them things I'd heard was true There was a big black dog laying out in the yard And he growled at me and I swallowed hard And I heard somebody say" well, who are you?" Ooh and there he stood in the door of that shack And his beard and his hair was long and black And he was the biggest man I ever seen when he spoke his voice was low and deep but he just didnt frighten me cause somehow i just knew he wasnt mean he said " what yuh doing snooping round my place" and i saw a smile come across his face so i smiled back and i told him who i was He said " come on in, pull you up a chair, You might as well since you're already here" And he said " you can call me joshua" joshua joshua what you doing living here all alone joshua joshua aint you got nobody to call your own no no no no we talked till the sun was clean out of sight and we still talked when it come daylight there was just so much we had to say i spent my life in an orphans home and just like him i was all alone so i said"yeah" when he asked if i'd stay ooh we grew close as time went on and that little ole shack it was a happy home and we just couldn't help but fall in love that big black dog and that little ole shack sitting down by the railroad track its plenty good enough for me and joshua joshua joshua why your just what i've been a looking for joshua joshua you aint gonna be lonesome anymore

She didn't start wearing wigs until the 70s. People actually wore their hair like that back in the 60s. It was the time of wild hair. Think of the musical, 'Hairspray', which is set around the 60's dramatic hair styles (and dances). I would say a lot of hair spray and hair pins and clips.
