Hey guys I just want to say thank you for the videos and more importantly the way you do them. I've noticed on the internet especially backpacking and camping becomes more about the gear you're using and the clever new gadgets. You remind people what it's really about: the experience. The friendship, the nature, and the fun experiences which always accompany any backpacking trip.

+asthmaticrhino Thanks so much for your kind words! We definitely wanted to focus on those experiences and the philosophy and interactions when we started the show, so it means a lot that you said that :) Thank you for watching! Cheers :) -Andrew

As always A+. Your camera work and editing is top notch. However what I feel really sets you guys apart from the rest is your narration. You have the ability to really capture is words the emotions ones feels while being in the great outdoors and you do a phenomenal job of relaying those to others. Keep doing what you are doing.

Well said on the "Why would you camp in the winter?" speech Bryan. Sometimes we set out to camp in harsh conditions just to have a chance to actually use our gear and tools to maintain the good time. Very rewarding and gratifying to come away from a harsh camp with a smile.

"Maybe we should be mad at our jobs, for making us late to our families." If I wasn't already subbed, I would have just for that. I had a job like that for 6 years. One day I quit, and even with less money, I've never been happier. My 3 yr old and I went skipping rocks at the river today, got caught in a rainstorm, hid in a farmshed, and she was laughing the whole time. You can't buy that. Thanks guys

Man oh man.......best one yet fellas. You guys dont make it about the gear, or the miles racked up but rather embracing the pure joy of the adventure. Bryan summed it up perfectly when explaining why one would choose to put themselves out in the backwoods at all, let alone in the winter far away from our creature comforts that we have all so engrained into our daily existence. It is about embracing the art of the possible, that heightens our spirit in facing the daily grind and widens our perspective on what simple problems we give way too much power to. Also, props to you guys for making relevant references to Thoreau and Costanza! Very inspiring! Please keep em coming guys.
@AdventureArchives

BuckeyeHiker So glad you liked the video!! And absolutely - gear will only get you so far, and it will only make you so happy. I think the reason all of us (including the three of us often times) can obsess about gear is because it's sort of a replacement for being outside when we're stuck inside or cooped up at a job. Haha, and thanks so much! Glad you caught the seinfeld reference too. Thanks again! --Andrew

I gaze out my window and smile at the newly budding trees just beyond the deck. My attention moves gently back to the lads of Adventure Archives, steadfastly crunching through a cold, icy wilderness. 20... 30... 40 minutes pass. After all, time is meaningless. I let my eyes wander back to the window. The same window as before. The budding trees are now obscured by sideways snow. My peaceful smile slowly, painfully contorts into a dead-eyed sneer. This is Minnesota. And it is April.

Strange how certain moments can take us back in time, to a place that we have stored in our memories for years. The scene with the three of you, cooking around your fire, with silent night playing in the background, did just that. Our small band of Marine's were settled in one Christmas eve, on a particularly quite night, in Vietnam. It was raining, so we sat huddled under our shelter halves, cooking our c-rats, and quietly sang, silent night. Keep doing what you're doing, just the way your doing it. Stay safe. Happy trails.

@adventurearchives - The trip went well! We did a 10 mile loop one day, and a 4 mile hike the next. Nice follow up to your other Dolly Sods video. The winter bathing section is funny. I think I'd have a heart attack though. This area has always fascinated me since it is largest example of boreal bogland that far south, and therefore is home to many northern plants. Orchids are my greatest interest, and I'm confident the area is crawling with them.

There is a place at the base of Dolly Sodds called White Grass. They rent all types of cross country skis. The property used to be an old downhill ski lodge. I think the state or federal govt now own the land. White Grass runs the cross country ski rentals/passes in winter. There is a state run campground with hot showers in the winter nearby. One can also use the hotels hot tub, indoor pool, and sauna for a small fee while camping.

Cool video fellas. I love Dolly Sods and recognize some of the spots you visited. +1 for the Costco green sweater (I think I have the same one). I only took canned octopus and oysters on a backpacking trip once (enough said). Dolly Sods is the first (but not last) place I got temporarily geospacially disoriented (lost) while backpacking and had to use some reckoning, map and compass skills to get reoriented. Some of the trail junctions at Red Creek are easy to miss, amiright!
@AdventureArchives

FloydofOz Haha nice! My mom shops at costco all the time. Actually, those pants I'm wearing are from there too, haha. I actually took canned oysters to our most recent trip, but never ended up eating them, so it won't be in the next episode unfortunately. Luckily all of our trails were fairly easy, but I can easily see getting lost. I'd like to do an off-trail trip at Dolly Sods sometime. Thanks for watching! --Andrew

Great video! I just happened upon your channel and really enjoyed everyone's work on this project. I live in WV and often camp at Dolly Sods. Beautiful place with so much variety in landscape. There are several "hidden gems" (camping sites) that I think you guys would really enjoy. If we ever meet up there I would be happy to share them with you. Thanks again for a great video!

Greg E Thanks so much! I went back a third time recently just for an overnighter and came in from the west side this time. I hiked on the Rocky Ridge trail as well. Lots of very cool campsites, either nestled away in the forests, or high up on big open hills. It would actually be really cool to do some sort of meet up at Dolly Sods. We'll let you know if we head back there sometime. Thanks for watching!! -Andrew

Ah so you guys are from Ohio! Me too! (Well I go to school here...) But I've only had time to do short overnighters at the local state parks, because of my crazy schedule. I really want to get over to West Virginia and see some mountains!!

+Michael Mingus Nice! OSU? You should check out Zaleski State Forest or Wayne National Forest if you're looking to do some backpacking. But you should def head to West Virginia when you get the time! Thanks for watching :) -Andrew

mike turner Thanks a bunch for watching! We haven't yet unfortunately, but I know Bryan's been looking into buying a hammock to use, maybe before the we film the next one. Do you use a sleeping bag along with the quilts, or just rely on those? Thanks! -Andrew

Ok, I was a little surprised at the river crossing scene. lol I believe i would have handled that the same way Brian did (clothes on). It was a great video, none the less. Thank you for sharing most of that.

I always find myself coming back to re-watch this episode and the Yosemite. There's something so charming about winter backpacking with snow covering the ground but also about Yosemite and it's epic valley and vast mountains. I'm guessing you guys already have plans for where you're planning on going this winter but I think it would be really awesome if you returned to Yosemite this winter when there's snow on the ground. -Jason

Great video guys! Seriously awesome job on the filming. It's hard to enjoy what's in front of you while filming great shots at the same time. I always find that difficult to at least evenly distribute my time to both. I love the shots where you walk past the camera about a quarter mile... Then you have to turn around and get your camera... Not sure why I always thought them to be funny when I film them. Thanks again for sharing. -Andy

Those shots require a lot of extra walking but hey just look so cool. We have a little saying "remember the greedo" that basically means take the effort to get the shot even if you don't feel like it because it'll pay off later when you're watching it and are like, man I'm glad we got that shot! Thanks for watching ;) -Robby

***** Yeah that is something I have noticed as well. The very nature of filming is that you're imagining what it'll look like on the screen in the future, so we sometimes catch ourselves and make sure we bring ourselves back to the present and enjoy what's around us in that moment. Thanks for watching! --Andrew

Jason Chasteen Thank you so much for watching! Man, that water was so cold. The sun was actually pretty warm that day, and I was feeling hot with all of the winter clothing on, so I was just like, I should jump in this river. It'd make for some good watching. It was really refreshing, but my body went numb really quickly, haha. --Andrew
