Wow! It must have been an emotional experience. I'd never really known much about this spectacular mountain range until recently. The images are breathtaking. I don't know why "Britannica" would describe them as mountains that have eroded into "grotesque shapes"! Who calls a mountain "grotesque", lol!💓⛰💓😊

When I went to South Tyrol (called Alto Adige in Italian and SudTirol in German) for the first time in 1987 I thought I had died and gone to heaven. The Dolomites are spectacular! When Italy opens back up and you can visit, go along the Strada del Vino which is the wine route in Alto Adige from Salorno to Nalles via Bolzano - best wines anywhere. (My dad was born in Trentino-Alto Adige and I still have family in Salorno in Alto Adige. When I lived with my cousins there in 1990 I lived like a native and not a tourist and have visited them a total of 7 times - living like a native is the only way to learn about the everyday life of the people. I speak Italian with the Tyrolean dialect and they speak no English (Italian and German) so brush up on either language before you go). Buon viaggio!

Alpe di Siusi and Castelrotto, is only a nine part of the entire system. Dolomiti, infact, are compose by 9 system. Rick talked about the nine mart of them situated in Bolzano province. The rest is magnificent and situated in Belluno, Trento and Pordenone province (all italian culture and language). Higher Dolomiti are in Belluno province.
@daves57163 жыл бұрын
I've visited the Dolomites three times by motorcycle and hope to return. The region is one of the most beautiful in Europe and has some of the best food I've ever had. If you didn't know you were in Italy you'd swear you were in Austria, it's strange but I think that's the magic of it.
@cristianmanni41093 жыл бұрын
You beli3ved to be in Austria because you're misinformation about Dolomiti distribution. They are in Veneto region (Venezia area) for the most part...you visited a very small part of Dolomiti in Bolzano area... But there are Belluno area, Trento area and Pordenone area and they are the largest part not situate in a German culture and language

@cristianmanni410924 күн бұрын
Dati Presi dal sito Agordino Dolomiti it.

to tell the truth, with Kastelruth/Castelrotto you have taken one of the few examples that demonstrates that that area was inhabited by Italic populations originally and then by Germanic populations. The name "Kastelruth" derives from the Latin name "Castelruptum" now in Italian "Castelrotto". The first traces of the name are in Latin and date back to 980, and it means "Broken Castle". Even the first documents in German refer to this location with the name "dorff zu Castellrutt" which means Castelrutt village.

So why couldn't Italy simply keep the retoromantic names and had to invent new ones or translate them into Italian?

Noooo again!! People from abroad always make this mistake. The Dolomites fall under Alto-Adige only for a small portion of their terriyory the big majority of them are under the Venetian cultural and historical region. Within the Alto Adige South Tyrol, the Dolomites are only a very small portion of the territory not the whole region

It really depends where you're planning to stay (low valley like Bolzano/Bozen or a higher village) and the weather you'll find. Sometimes it's 35° degrees in august and sometimes you'll find snow (if you're really unlucky and quite high up in the mountains). But usually, it's a great climate to go camping, just be prepared by checking the weather forecast beforehand
