After working through the process and showing your video to my client I wanted to share this with you. When I arrived for our training session, she was bursting with pride, "look what we've done". She presented the muzzle to the dog and he promptly placed his nose into the muzzle and she clipped it on, he sat patiently and calmly waiting for his next cue. THANKS AGAIN ! from Meandthedogs :)

What a very clearly-explained, intelligent tutorial - we've just adopted a rescue dog and the centre recommended muzzle-training as our dog is reactive. I'm really looking forward to making this training fun, rewarding and successful. Many thanks !

Many people think that positive reinforcement is about batten a dog with food. That's so wrong and you wonderfully show the true meaning of pos reinforcement in your video. You make something uncomfortable/weird to something wonderful for the dog. And the rewards are what the dog loves and it's never only food, just as you told. It can be also a game and or affection but also things like running free, going to sniff, playing with other dogs and so on are rewards. Great video!!!

I ask ALL my students to train their dogs to wear muzzles, because one never knows when an accident will occur, and the veterinary staff may have to muzzle the dog for safety while treating it. This is an excellent video on training this behavior, and will help insure that dogs are not made even more anxious at a stressful time when they are placed in a muzzle. Hint - you can use the same technique to acclimate a dog to a head halter should that be desired.

Used this video for my aggressive pitbull who had to go to the vet for his vaccinations. My dog was never previously muzzle trained. I scheduled the appt 2 weeks from the beginning of muzzle Tran ing and with just 3-5 mins a day he was awesome ! This video helped me and my dog so much. Thank you.

My behavioral trainer for food resource guarding on my pit mix puppy, asked that I consider muzzle training, until we overcome some issues. I have had so many dogs, but this problem was one I could not solve, so I agreed. Now that I have seen this video, which he recommended, I have ordered a muzzle for my 9 month old puppy. This was very well done

Many thanks for this video! I love the added extra of clipping the muzzle around the dogs neck before making the dog wear it on its nose as well! I've been trying to work out how to progress with this and that method is perfect for my dog!

Awesome..thanks so much. I have 4 dogs but my 2 males (boxer and boerboel) have started fighting and cannot b together at all if I am around (if i'm not around they r fine, as soon as they see me they fight and fight bad..!!) anyway I am so stuck with this now so started looking at muzzles as a last resort and hopefully train them back to being socialy accepatable together again. Your methods r fantastic and easy and if i may say obvious.... only i just didn't think and stuck a muzzle straight on the big boerboel.....fortunately he is very placid and fell asleep.....But so glad i saw your vid before i did stupid irreparable damage and made them even worse....thanks once again...!!!

Hi Patel! It was great to meet you at Clicker Expo in Denmark. I'm the observer who asked if you still had any influence at Baskerville ;-) I have several clients with dogs that fall outside the current 6 sizes of Baskerville Ultra Muzzles. I have contacted them about this, thank you for that suggestion. You mentioned there, and started to demonstrate your "newer-revised" method of muzzle training, which started with the muzzle on the floor. Have you made a new video? Thanks again for all you do for animals and their owners/handlers!

This video was just recommended as my rescue dog already had a bad experience with wearing a muzzle. Now every time he sees a muzzle he is running away… also, could we skip the second step fastening the straps just around the neck? As he was caught as a stray with a wire sling he is very sensitive with anything around his neck. Thank you!

I have a dog who was horribly abused and my vet sent me this link to try and see if I can teach him to wear a muzzle so he can be examined by my vet. What you did looks fantastic but I’m concerned because my dog has extreme fear aggression with things he does not know or understand. Hopefully he will not completely flip out and he can learn it’s not a bad thing.

I love this video. Have a question, Chirag: my dog is a Romanian rescue, who, amongst other issues, resource guards treats and toys. Following this training video, I have now reached the point where, on seeing the muzzle appear, she displays positive body language. The difficulty I am having, is that because my dog is so hyper-vigilant with treats, when I am trying to get her accustomed to the feel of the muzzle on her face, if there is even the tiniest piece of food remaining inside the muzzle, any movement at all from me causes her to react: she thinks I am trying to get to her precious treat. I understand why she is like this-beaten and starved before I adopted her. The muzzle training is something I feel very motivated to continue, but her psychological problems are making progress feel very slow indeed. Any tips at all would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Elizabeth

I'm not a trainer or behaviorist but maybe make sure the muzzle is clean before starting and allowing you dog to completely clean out treats before moving on? This is the only thing I can think of to help

My family but muzzle on them at 8 weeks. When we start walking them. Much easier. They know if they want to go outside. A muzzle come with it. Simple. Don't wait until your dog bite someone. To start training. When ever your puppy bite you. You start muzzle training even if it harmless

Before I saw this video I muzzle trained my dog. It was going pretty well even though there were a few things I wish I 'd known. But then I had to do several days of ear treatments and now my dog has started pulling his face out when I go to clip it on. I had used a cloth muzzle originally, so now I'm thinking I'll just start over from square one and I'll follow these directions. The only trouble is I can't find that muzzle same for sale anywhere. I like the way this one clips on just like the cloth one and doesn't also have the strap between the eyes. Does anyone know where to order the same muzzle used in the video? This video is fabulous and I sure hope it'll do the trick.

Great video! Thank you! Over how many weeks did this process take?
@ChiragPatelConsulting14 жыл бұрын
@eeneigenhok Hi That your opinion. I want the dog to associate the muzzle with what they find rewarding, not what I think they find rewarding. Most ppl rather have cash than verbal praise. However, I would love to see a different method. Please let me know if you post one on here, look forward to watching it. Regards

Can this be done in one session?
@ChiragPatelConsulting8 жыл бұрын
+Leah M Hi, I would recommend that you do short, fun sessions rather than a longer one trying to accomplish it all. If it starts becoming less fun, thats the time to stop and try the next day. With an experienced animal, who is used to novel things, you may be able to get further quicker but taking a week or two is probably better.

+Jaimie B Cheese is fine as long as you don't give them too much. Different dogs can handle different amounts of lactose. Also, cheese is very low in lactose anyways. www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-feeding-tips/dogs-milk-dairy-products/

I give my dogs the tiniest bit from time to time and they're fine, but a few weeks ago I got some dog treats from "bark box " that we're all cheese and bacon flavored and those made my dogs have horrible diarrhea. :(
