Thank you, Tigere, for this wonderful footage. I love learning about the relationships within the herd and watching how they behave together. It’s fascinating that since the males don’t separate from the group, as they do in wild herds, they adopt a protective and instructive role with the calves and juveniles. It makes me wonder how much behavior is truly inbred and to what extent it can be altered by circumstances and the social environment. I’m also amazed by how sensitively the carers interpret what the elephants are doing and feeling, and how acutely they observe the shifts in hierarchy that might be invisible to the rest of us. I admire and respect all of you tremendously. All my best to everyone at HERD!

Oh my heart - BLESS YOU Tigere and HERD for sharing this video with the detailed relational descriptions! 💚🙏 For the first time since 1 July, my heart is much more settled from worrying about Setombe's broken mama heart!! 🙏🙏💚. Both your explanations as well as seeing her in relation to the herd and seeing the role she continues to play is a HUGE relief. I've been praying that she gets to cuddle with Phabeni in her dreams. Thank you kindly!! ❣💚🧡💜💙❣ The info on how the Jabulani herd dynamics differs from wild elies is so helpful. In this one video, you've answered many questions and I've learned a tremendous amount. Setombe is one awesome elephant!! To have been such a loving mama to Phabeni, but also to be willing to take on rascal Mambo, and the greater role of helping the dominant bulls manage the rambunctious ones seems to me to be a VERY important role to the overall herd. She strikes me as more of a single mum who's had to be both parents. I wonder about her history that promotes this within her. So fascinating! She may not have the personality to be a future matriarch, but she's already making vital contributions even now! I loved her since she was chosen by Phabeni and accepted him ... now I also respect her immensely! God bless her beautiful heart and spirit! GO SETOMBE!❤🧡💛💚🐘

Although Setombe is not the matriarch of the herd, she still somehow helps Tokwe with her matriarchal duties with her role as the female disciplinarian for the youngsters. It's great to see her engaging in some sparring with the bulls. I hope this means that she is slowly healing and not feeling sad all the time. I really love to see them being carefree and happy in the wild. It is also so heartwarming to see Zindoga and Somopane's relationship. They truly look like father and son. Elephants really know how to discipline their young and the youngsters know how to obey and respect their elders. Thank you, Tigere, for another great video of our beloved ellies. And thank you so much, Adine and HERD, for the life that our Jabulani herd are enjoying. God Bless Your Beautiful Hearts and Organization.🙏🐘❤

I have been observant of just how all these elephants work together for the good of the herd. They are definitely highly intelligent animals. They also each seem to have a job (place) in their society, which they seem to respect. It is interesting to watch since most of them are not biologically related, and yet have created a family. I stand in great admiration of these wonderful animals.

Setombe and Somopane, have always had a very unique relationship, it is a behaviour pattern that developed way back when they were youngsters in Zimbabwe.
