Idk if someone already said that but there is the possibility, that the Chimera Ants are stronger on the Dark Continent than in the world they know and live in. The Chimera Ants like Pitou, Meruem and the others who can use Nen where of course stronger than the other Chimera Ants and they got the Nen and strength because the humans, who were fed to the Chimera Ant queen had Nen (atleast some) and where stronger than the others. Which could mean that the Chimera Ants in the Dark Continent are way stronger because the "food" the Chimera Ant queen in the Dark Continent gets is stronger than the humans because they are creatures of the Dark Continent. So it may be that the standard strength of Chimera Ants in the Dark Continent is at a power like Meruem even without Nen. Just a theory probably not true but would make sense I think.

The real story is just a long line of Freecs being pushed to become hunters because their father felt a strong enough desire to leave them in order to become a hunter. Gon has completed the storys initial purpose of finding his father. Now we move onto the larger story that is Gings determination to end the cycle by finding out from Don himself. Ging likely had the same goal of finding his father only to find out his father had the same goal of finding his father. And as they learn this they continue the family name until someone finds, gets answers or maybe kills Don who started it all.

I feel that ging found the book as a child. They show him as a teen multiple times when mito talks about him leaving. That's why he kept saying he's looking for something he can see or whatever. Ging has been trying to get clearance to go there most of his life.

One thing you said that resignated with me was the concept of being a hunter, like if you think about it there are only a couple places(Not including Dark Continent) in the HxH world that being a hunter would be nessicary to go. So it make sense that they would create this hunter system to find and assemble worthy warriors to attempt to conquer the dark continent.

I have a pretty good theory as to why it's so oblivious about the origins of how the book came to the hunter association. You know how every survivor has to bring back something from the dark continent...what if Ging was a hunter that was forced to take back something as well, but not the book...what if he was merged with Gon and they're actually two people in one body. A piece of the dark continent he has to take with him back to the real world. Perhaps Ging knew how dangerous this was and intentionally stayed away from his family because of it. Originally its said Ging didn't even want to venture out to become a hunter...so...it's a far fetched theory but still...it sorta works

Everyone who left the dark continent has a curse brought back with them . Don either never left , or his curse is gon . Or don never left and created ging then sent him back. So the game could have been where ging was created and brought out of the game to bring back out of the dark continent. Rinse and repeat creating gon the same way . And or freecs actually had a girl and had him . From several readings until more info comes out to disapprove . Either gon is created or ging . Or don is ging .

Maybe togashi will make it so the reincarnation skips generations or something. Maybe it's not even true reincarnation and just a transfer of memories. Where Don's memories transfer to someone in the bloodline but will only go to someone who meets certain criteria. Similar to the curse of the maziku from YuYu Hakusho one of togashis other works.

The Freecs are natives of the dark continent. Don is probably like that tarzan of the dark continent or just a bad ass that lives in that place like just every day life living. Don may be a threat initially or he's keeping at bay whatever made him deem that an association of extremely strong and skilled nen users hence the HA and is awaiting that team that will be able to overcome whatever obstacle he's been managing.

Let's not forget something important about the Chimera ants: They started evolving very rapidly, gaining strength, high intelligence, and the ability to use nen all because they came to the lands where humans live and started eating them. Before that they weren't even close to the strength of Meruem and his royal guard. (Just look at the first time we see a chimera ant. It really was pretty weak compared to Meruem and I could understand it being B class.) Meruem was probably far higher in danger rank than just B class.

The ants were classified as B level threat so meruem is B rank. It’s more like the other ants are way below B rank level but the strongest of the ca is logically how you rank them.

@@d3rduck No, the chimera ant species was classified as rank B. Meruem didn't exist yet when that ranking was given. I feel like he would be class A+ while his royal guard might be A-. Not close to the strongest beings yet, but at least stronger than B class.
