Could be anything at this point. However, just due to the lengths of time involved I doubt the original author will ever go back to gon. Gon lost his powers over like 10 years ago irl and we have barely gone forward in the manga from the point where the anime stopped. Chrolo actually cheated against Hisoka. He was pretending to use his friends power when in reality they were doing it themselves That's why he can all of the sudden use two hands when fighting. That's what he meant by working as a team. Hisoka realized this at the end and that is the reason he wants to kill all the spiders. He was promised a 1v1 but was set up and assassinated in a 3v1.
