This, at Peggy’s house, is my favorite scene out of the entire series. Don, for the first time - without actually saying the words - tells Peggy how much he needs and loves her.

Don's point here about the people who experienced something so terrible it changed the way they saw themselves is the show's thesis. Advertising imbues products with meaning and stories. People who've suffered loss can buy those products to piece together their identity - to remember who they were and who they wanted to be. It's the same reason Don and Peggy love their work - it is their means of becoming.

Peggy is amazing. What a role model. Her character arc is brilliant.

What I admire about her is that she is not indulgent with the satisfaction of being appreciated. She has enough self esteem to know that she will not follow him blindly, as hard as it is. She doesn't lose herself in the process of idolizing him.

It's funny that everyone always dismissed Harry Crane because they didn't like the guy, he was even there by mistake, yet he was one of the best earners for them throughout the series and they didn't do him justice at the end. Very important character to learn from.

@@darkale658 What do you think it's referring to with "something happened. Something terrible"?
@darkale6582 жыл бұрын
@@SamHusseini To refer to a specific event like the JFK assassination would make no sense given how he started the conversation "there are people out there who buy things, people like you and me." He is speaking in philosophical terms about the advent of modern advertising and the effect it had on the consumer. He is saying that very few people understand the idea that you can sell products to consumers by taking advantage of "how they should think about themselves" (i.e. manufacturing need for the product based on genuine emotions and wants), and that Peggy is one of those few gifted people.
