I was very fortunate to have known Don Reinhoudt. He was one of the kindest souls in our world. My children knew him as well and we all loved him. His memory will be carried on through them and all the other peoples lives he touched, and there were many. Rest in Peace Don.

Such sad news… thank you for sharing Loz. I met Big Don at the Association of Oldtime Barbell and Strongman dinner years ago when he was honored. What a nice, humble man to talk to. A great human being. The world is a lesser place without him. Rest In Peace Big Don.

I went to college in Fredonia, NY and met Don in Walmart. Recognized him, said hi and he was really cool. Talked to me for a few minutes and he loved that I was a competitive Powerlifter. He impressed me. Looking back, I wish I had known just how much he had done. Good man.

A truly fitting tribute, like Paul Anderson and Chuck Sipes, Don understood that the duty of the strong is to protect and inspire those weaker than them. A trait which seems sadly lacking in these more enlightened times. On a lighter note I seem to remember Kaz being referred to as “Billy Kazmire” in his first WSM. RIP strongman.

What a monster. He must have been one of the 1st 600 lb benchers. A legendary strength career packed into about a dozen years, then he started his real career working with kids. Nothing to be sad about: sounds like he had a great life.

As soon as I saw this, I knew he must have passed away. What a great guy, and he was certainly a great competitor and legend in both Strongman and Powerlifting. Unfortunately for us we didn't get to see a longer rivalry between Bill Kazmaier and Don Reinhoudt. They were pulling crazy weight in 1979 and 1980 against one another that we really didn't see commonly until much later. Can you imagine if Bruce Wilhelm, and Don Reinhoudt had been in shape and competing during the glory days of Kaz? That would have been something to see, and likely taken the sport in a completely different direction. Great to see that his kindness and goodness is such a big part of this tribute because he was clearly a great man. RIP Don.

What a beautiful tribute and great piece of content sir. It is amazing how healthy or long most of the WSM winners have been with Don being only the 2nd winner, Jon Paul the other, to pass since winning the title in its 46 year history. Don was 78 I believe when he passed.

If Don won the open weight class at IPF weighing 365lbs, that would mean his world records are currently being held by people weighing about 400lbs. So it's practically a new weight class.

Don Reinhoudt's remarkable career in the strength world required a tremendous amount of mental strength and discipline. The ability to push through challenges, overcome setbacks, and maintain focus in the face of adversity is what sets apart individuals who reach the pinnacle of their chosen endeavors. Don Reinhoudt must have possessed unwavering commitment, an unyielding work ethic, and the mental capacity to withstand the pressures and rigors of training, competition, and personal sacrifices, even after he left strongman and powerlifting. It's important to recognize that strength encompasses more than just physical power. Mental strength, determination, and the ability to overcome challenges are the most important pieces in achieving greatness and leaving a lasting impact, not just within a sport but in life. As long as Don inspires others, his legacy lives on.

The funny thing is Don always gave credit where credit was due and said Bruce Wilhelm was a very strong competitor and deserved that win. However, Don also said Wilhelm was one of the only people he met that he never liked. You know what? I don't really believe it either. Don was just such a nice guy I'm sure he really did like that arrogant SOB! It's just who he was.
