Hi Dave, I have a 2009 RAM 1500 and have had to put a lot of work into it this year. I've had to replace the camshaft, timing chain and tensioner, lower control arms, upper control arms, front brake rotors, front brake calipers, fix rust issues, and more. I'm hoping to do a little less work on the RAM next year since I don't have my own shop, which won't make things any easier. Also, I'm actually a carpenter, not a mechanic, so I have to teach myself everything. You have given me valuable advice on the timing chain and for that I thank you again at this point. The HEMI runs great with the new camshaft and I hope it stays that way! I do not need another year like this.

Please check if your vin number falls into the recall list. You can check on the Chrysler website. It’s such a tiny part that fails but can cause total engine destruction.

I've got a 2002 silverado with 227150 miles and still runs great. 5.3 liter motor. Had it since new. The best thing is it is paid for and taxes are only $74 a year.

Being able to fix your vehicle makes all the difference. The cost of getting that motor job done by the stealership would have been enough for most people to just buy a new truck.

I recently bought a 2013 ram Laramie longhorn,2 weeks ago, with 88k original miles. Cleanest, and nicest used truck I have came across in a very long time. Rides and drives like a new truck still.

You have a very nice truck and it being that old with only those few problems a very reliable truck my truck is a 1997 f350 crew cab 4x4 exstateroad truck has a little more rust but a whole lot more dents and after 300 thousand hard miles I'm in the middle of a motor change what I'm saying is the value of your truck is what it means to you and not anyone else as good of a truck you have there is no need to get another unless you really want another truck 👍👍

You might want to buy a new one as i did because i wanted to postpone having an electric vehicle as long as possible. You can buy new seat skins for your truck. My truck is the lower model Warlock with a cloth interior. Avoid the push button start. You have to keep the key fob in a signal blocking pouch to prevent truck from being stolen. Avoid 20 inch rims as the tires are very expensive.

Nice Video Dave. Love your Irish broug accent. Thimbs up. Your back seat isnt as cluttered as mine on mt 19. I despize the sissor jack under front passenger seat after friends fell while changing a flat. My road had no sholder just a steep drop off so i bought a 3 ton fast lift floor jack i keep cabled to passenger seat leg. Yea its heavy at 75lbs but lifts well with 1 foot concrete pad i carry under spare chained in bed. Want to get bed cover like yours and put it in the bed to stay dry. My Ram is SLT plsin Jane compared to yours. Thanks for all the tips. Hope to keep it 10 years as ive had it two. Canadian up keep might be slightly different to Texas up keep. Thanks

My RAM has 330.000 miles now no issues yet except a manifold bolt bin like this for 250.000 miles brakes a pair of struts tires bin a good rugged truck I have had every series behind this one the worst was the 1994 always ball joints an track bars an a transmission at 200.000 it still runs rust took over the three Best Dodge Ram was the 68 73 84 an my 2015 all have 200.000 to 400.000 my 84 was the best so far my 15 is catching it an probably pass it

I have the opportunity to buy a 2013 Ram Big Horn 4x4 Crew Cab short bed. It has 255k miles on it, but a new motor (5.7 hemi) was installed 34k miles ago. Wondering what I should look out for? I hear the 6 speed transmissions are decent? I am good about keeping up basic maintenance, but what BIG issues might I be looking at?

I'm no expert, so I can only tell you what I've had to replace: Fuel pump - Not too expensive Starter PCM (Very recently) Timing chain (damage caused by recalled part failing) So, I would check your vin for a timing chain guide recall. Parts are not too expensive, and easy to get. Was it a new engine, or replacement used engine? I would want to know about the timing chain situation, it can cause a lot of expense. If I was you, I would plug a scan tool into the truck before you part with any cash. You can get a cheap one at walmart that will do the job. Any more questions, just gimme a shout.

I passed on this one because I wasn't comfortable with the answers the crappy dealership were giving me about the engine...and the wife absolutely hated this truck. However, right now I am looking at 2013 Tradesman with the Hemi, small (3") lift, and completely refreshed all around. It's got 187k miles on it, and the price is good. Right now it's between the Ram, a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Hemi, and a Ford Expedition with the twin-cam EcoBoost V6.

I can afford it a lot since I own it. Sometimes it's cheaper to get a good mechanic friend to do work that requires specialized tools. Some auto parts stores now rent out speciality one time use tools. I can do a lot from break pads lines radiator replacement alternator starter thermostats and w pumps battery belts serpentine heater cores just have never busted into many internal engines and replaced major components like lifters cams and timing chains. Have replaced older transmissions drive shafts shocks and some suspension parts.
