It’s too bad you guys didn’t come inside the club as I work there and been following ur channel from the beginning the boat is actually in North Sydney Nova Scotia and has since sold to a guy who came from Australia to fix and sail it back he’s been working on it for several weeks now and got the engine running and the boat cleaned out

She may have a boat load of “stuff” but $50K seems outrageous. There are lots of free boats available but this one would be tough to take on even at no cost. Thanks for the tour.

Its hard to tell from a video but as far as condition id rate it at 85% needing 15% labor assuming the floor isn't soft . I'd buy it but for around 15 or 20k ! Completed its worth around 100k isn't it ? I really like the lay out , i think 2 couples could do some serious travel !

Jordan, thanks for this video. If a person wants a project and is more interested in working on a sailboat than actually going sailing then things like this boat might make sense. I've been the owner of a neglected boat and had to make the decision to let it go. I bought the boat to go sailing. Owned it 10 years and never got it out of the marina the whole time. Except to have it towed to another marina. I bought it while it was in the boat yard. Immediately spent about $6,000 on it just to get it out of the yard. Salted it to the marina. There it sat over the years as more and more things failed or went down hill. I realize now that I was paying for a dream that has yet to be realized. Earlier this year I gave it away. The person who got it said they were going to fix it and then sell it for basically the cost they had in it. IDK if they actually did it or they pulled it out and salvaged it. There were many items that were in good order and the lead ballast alone was worth about $5,000. So maybe I was just told a story. IDK. I spent close to $30,000 in slip fees. Boats die from neglect. Going forward, I'll be looking for the sweet spot: a boat old enough to be very affordable but in good enough shape to not be a project.

This is a beautiful boat I would certainly snap their hands off if the price was right. I bought a boat for £750 took out the deisel and put it in my car and a couple of items i didn't need so she really only cost £300. I fixed her up as a stationary houseboat and lived on her for a couple of years saving about £24000 in rent. Then sold her for £15000. QED

Sometimes old well built boats with quality fixtures are good value ,as long as the hull is sound, paying to much for them is the big trap,, you will most likely be replacing all wiring and electrical equipment

Indubitably a massive project! Asking price of &50,000 was maybe too much. The repair cost would at least be $150,000, or a DIY of &100,000! Good luck to the new owner! Hey, here's an idea for future shows; "where are they now," ah what happened to the boats you showed. I certainly would relish a show on this Cal a year down the road.

Thank you for talking about the buyer "BEWARE" on vessels. If anyone was wondering that anyone did NOT know. The charcoal Briquettes in the after cabin on the table are for moisture Removal just a FYI. I'm guessing the boat wheel was sitting in the cabin. I really Hate boats that have wires exposed and all over the place, that's a bad sign. Personally have had bad luck with ( Perkins Diesel's) we had a dump truck ( 4 yarder) with one. Lots of issues. Also at a more recent job, we had a Perkins Diesel in a chipper, the engine could NOT feed trees into it without bogging down, the old chipper was better with the same size branches and small tree chunks. Be very careful if you look at a boat from Hurricane damage. Always go look at the boat and go to the boat. With the internet it's too easy to sell vessels NOW online. Always get a ( Serve-A) by a professional. My first Searay 24 foot overnighter had the old ( OMC) rubber boot on the hull, that always bothered me after I had her, the raising motor always would quit working. Replacement (3) times. It would raise engine temperature when I was plowing, right before planning. You had to watch the temperature very carefully, slow down or get up on the plane. It was a Ford (302) gas engine. I was so glad when I upgraded to my ( Larson 24) I had the Larson dealership sell the Searay. The people that bought the Searay destroyed it in about 2 months. Saw it sitting at the dock at the Larson dealership Marina and the inside looked just like this sailboat in this video, completely a mess and very dirty. Going through a broker or having the boat dealership sell your vessel, gets you off the hook if the new owner wants to come back on you. I just sold my ( Larson) through a broker 😊 very quickly in a little over 2 months. Sorry for being long winded, but please people Listen to what this guy says in the video.

I saw no real water damage which is a huge plus. Yes she needs some work but most of it is simple cleaning and refinishing. I don't know how the decks felt of course or what the bilges look like but I also know these boats were built like tanks with extra thick layups on the hull. It would be a lot of work but even if she needs new rigging and some soft spots patched that is as long as the wiring isn't shot and the motor can be started with minimal effort. I'm really not sure why you wrote her off so quickly? Would I pay $50k for her, umm No but for the right price even at my age I'd probably take her on in the let's say the $10k range or lower. It would also depend on the yard fees and if I'd be allowed to work on her where she sits myself. If the yard is one of those that require to use their repair/refit services then she'd of course be a hard pass from me. Aren't these Cals in good shape as in ready to go cruising going for around the $150k range? Great tour as always I just disagree with your assessment of her is all. God Bless...

There was definite water damage. Both in the decks and the cabin sole. Much easier to see and smell (yes I can now recognize the smell of rot) in person than on camera. My main point here is when you see this kind of neglect, it's never a good sign. Coming from experience now with owning three project boats personally, it's always much, much worse than you think.

Some people buy these boats and then get funding through community project grants. Where I live in Florida there was a comoany that was training marine professionals in various trades like upholstery, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, etc. Those people need a vessel to learn on and the abandoned boats were usually bought for below 10k amd then the boat woukd get used to train. Obviously the students were paying for the education, and the 'school' was applying for grants in teaching. Then Florida was caught in the midst of unaccredited schools like Everest and few others that were offering essentially useless degrees at massively expensive rates. It shut those schools down, but also that school. It was shame really. The repaired boats were sold to fund the next project and the remainder was divided up amongst the students. They sometimes made 50 or 60 times the original price paid, which sounds like a lot, but after material cost, it was less than 20% usually in profit. A lot of students went to work for bigger yards like Rybovich or Delta zmd some went to Italy and Germany or the Netherlands.

It's sad to see that an awesome badass boat was left to waste away beyond being a viable investment project. I wonder how much it would cost to take it to the dump? It may be worth it if the parts good enough to savage out way the cost of disposal.

so basically you told us nothing , click bait video title , if the hull , engine , etc was sound the clutter is a non issue , of course there would likely be surprises but for a dyi capable sailor and at a cheap price this very well may be a bargain , you seemed to want , expect a bright shiny 250k boat , is this boat had been properly "staged" for your tour ( as realtors do with houses ) here is betting your review would be 100 % different . Note to sellers - clean up your boat BEFORE listing !

Wow. Even 50K is mad money. You'd spend 100K at boatyard rates and it's just not worth the expense. Especially when the same money would get you a ready-to-sale boat. This hulk is gonna be tied up for months on end, devouring your cash and giving no use in return. Maybe for free, it's worth a punt, but you can be sure that some dumb schmuck of a dreamer with a redundancy cheque or a legacy will turn up and get suckered...Not me...

Without a proper survey your opinion on this boat is basically worthless. Hundreds of thousands $$$ before use!!! Hahaha, you have no idea! If the standing rigging and sails etc were recent and stored properly etc, and the boat passed the survey without major defects, this one could be ready to go in a few months $10-20k if you're lucky and do the work yourself. Up your game dadio, there are channels with real experience not KZbin experience. Btw why did you need to wait untill the boat had sold before posting the sailboat info from sailboat data ? That is a free website =boat information is common knowledge.

The boat is 59 years old. So buy a new boat for a million or more and tell me how great it is in 59 years. I'd take a 70 year old car in decent shape Any day over a piece of junk newer car If any of them are still around after ten years. I new a guy that had a fiberglass sailboat that was around the second or third year they built them out of glass. I think it was about 1-1/2" thick It will still be here when all these new ones are scrap! People say lots of free boats but what make? and is it in Siberia? I've put more used stuff on my boats than new, Thats why theres no boat stores around any more they sell junk at ten times the cost.
