Is it the cheapest option for the tasks? not really, unless you drove over the border to sweden years ago and bought a box straight from the factory shop. my go to for everything else is the jääkäri puukko. The full flat grind make it such a better slicer than your typical Mora scandi grind on food and games. It's my favorite camping knife because i pair it with a small axe/hatchet. It can make some smaller kindlings and feathersticks but i would never baton a log bigger than 3 inch with mine for sure.
@BUZZKILLJRJR2 ай бұрын
The kansbol and the 2000 is not designed to be baton through wood, it is for hunting,slicing and carving knife tasks... When I was a young boy I was in the Boy Scouts we use a hatchet for splitting wood... and a knife for knife tasks, people would have shit a brick if they use the hunting knife to Baton through wood even today you dont use a fighting knife or hunting knife to Baton through wood it will break because it's not made to do that. While some knifes may be great at splitting wood, most of those are not good at skinning animals AS WELL AS A THINNER BLADE or slicing vegetables very well, or slicing meat for that matter. Yes they can do it, but not as good as a flat grind knife can slice, through meat and vegetables and such, they have thier place. Most survival knifes are too thick and the angle of a grind is for biting into wood, NOT to skin animals with ease, it's just a fact.

Its a near 35 year old knife with hunting, skinning and fishing in focus. I think it was never called “outdoor” until recently for foreign markets. @toncek9981Ай бұрын
To be fair, outdoor doesn't necessarily mean batoning either. Unless you specifically say it's a survival (or maybe bushcraft) knife, there's nothing wrong with it - 9 out of 10 "outdoor people" will use that knife for food prep anyway...
@jez76Ай бұрын
@@toncek9981 indeed. Until recent years watching YT videos on the subject I’d never thought of batoning with a knife.
@toncek9981Ай бұрын
@jez76 Of course, most traditional knife constructions aren't even suitable for abuse like that. Like, for decades or even centuries, people were fully happy with an axe and folding knife or some fixed blade hidden tang knife like Mora or Finnish puukko knives. Only relatively recently, someone came up with the idea of knife being this indestructible sharpened crow bar that can do everything. Don't take me wrong, I think it can be fun to go camping only with a single overbuilt knife and use it for some bushcraft stuff etc., also it can genuinely be a good idea to have something like that in your backpack just in case. But nowadays people think that the batoning is supposed to be some important basic to-go test for the majority of knives, which is just ridiculous...

Yeah, that's going to break when you baton with it, it's a utility/hunting knife. It's not "normal use" to hammer a knife with that profile guys. I have one as a cheap companion to my skrama 240. The "Improved precision" isnt for sticks, it's for undressing / disemboweling game/fish. You could try cutting leather with one and see how that performs? (might get expensive to buy leather, I don't know how sustainable that would be..) I have no clue why they would give these to their soldiers, there's way more robust knives out there. "it's green so it matches the outfit" sort of logic I guess. You did a great job stress-testing it though, good video as usual. Surprised it lasted as long as it did being honest!

I have a Kansbol of Mora, with very same blade. I would say it's a good camp knife, and a slight bushcraft/hunting knife but definitely not a survival knife. You can see it has two blades. The belly part is regular for bushcraft jobs with 25 mm. The first part as the tip is with 10 mm. The first part performs well on food preparations and removing skins. In my experience, a knife with over 30mm thickness on blade could lead to a crime scene on food preparations. It's not a utility knife, because what it can do is far more than that. If you look for a survival knife, pass this knife, please. But it can help you a lot on camping.

Prety sure that was a spruce. Spruce, fir, pine, cedar can all be made into tea, all have a different flavor profile (and even species to species and area to area are variable) White pine and eastern cedar are my two favorite. Most pine trees have long needles, that grow from the branch in a bunch (the white pine has 5 per bunch) Try some other evergreens to see if you prefer one over the other. And yes they're all definitely better with some honey or maple syrup, they're also nice when mixed with some mint leaves.

Martin didn't you have a dager of the mora 2000 that we only saw in a old knife collection video could you guys maybe show us it again

If you look at the tang of this knife ( half length of the blade) its clearly a skinning , light duty knife for precision... not all knives are for heavy duty usage

I keep a Mora Garberg in the truck and one in the pack. I also keep an old Mora in the kitchen for basic food prep tasks.

😂 This mora is the best. Carv with the bottom and prep food/skin with the tip. If you hit it, hit it straight ❤ Its a mora and a Gerber in the same time 🎉

The kansbol is my favourite knife if I’m carrying an axe because of how it excels with food and game prep

Most moras, I use for light bushcraft. It's no BK2. The Garberg and Robust are probabky the tougher Moras but even still. I don't stress them like a BK2. They still carve and whittle like a dream

I'm a fan of the Mora 2000. I have other knives that can take much more of a beating, but I like the dual grind on the Mora 2000 and it weighs less. I generally use it for food, and I never baton with it.

It seems a specific tool, like you guys mentioned, for specific use cases. Like the Kansbol it seems perfect to clean fish or game. Or for some carving.

Really nice to laugh in the night, wathing you enjoying life, sweet & compfy - like the Swedes in the army have, contemplating what real battle is. Question I have to this. Would this, small and sharp, utility be better for other purpose, maybe? In the pack, the only one I like to carry as the extra in woods, mountain terrain, and small bushes. Otherwise there are other free options, for army men to have on desired style, steel, size, and price. I should have wathe till the end, before my first comments.😅

Now its been quite a long time since I was in the army but we were not issued Mora 2000, we were issued a more basic model like the "craftline", I know some guys went and bought 2000s for their own money though. As far as I recall I don't think any one had any issues with their 2000s breaking despite the absolutely rediculous amount of batoning we did.

the thin tip must be for carrots. Carrots are a common food cut while outdoor cooking, they are so easy to have around, everyone loves them, but they are hard to cut with a pocket knife because they are stiff. The sharpest edge anywhere will still require the user to push on the carrot. This is not good, because no one usually has a cutting board. Instead, they have a plate, which is either paper or ceramic or metal , but never cutting-board wood. If you cut carrots on a plate with a very sharp pocket knife, with a thick blade, the carrot will give resistance, and the knife will suddenly pop the carrot and slam into the plate. This will cut through paper, and dull the blade on ceramic and metal. A thinner knife will not get as much resistance from a carrot. (( do a test!! Take someone like your parents or other person who is not an active knife enthusiast, and won't go out of their way to protect the edge. Get them to cut carrots, but without a cutting board, only a ceramic plate, and your pocket knife. 100% of the time they will decide to ruin the edge on the ceramic plate ... ))

Boiling pine needles makes turpentine. Use like a tea bag. Pour water over needles. 😊

The Mora Companion Heavy Duty is probably more knife than most people will every need. I like the Kansbol for light tasks around the yard, but if I were going to abuse it like in this video I'd use a thicker knife and/or use a carbon steel version.

G'day guys, dual grind, especially one being quite so thin, is fraught with danger on big boys tasks IMO. But hey I reckon in fairness, the strategy by Mora to offer more versatility than simply the ol' scandi across the board, (including the stumpy little Eldris btw), is worthy in some respects. Mind you, having said that, car camping, picnicking, and/or low budget options only I reckon. Its been said many many times before, and I'll say it again; go out in the sticks, take blades and other tools that are just about bomb proof. Yes more expensive than Moras and such, though plenty of great options without having your bank account hemorrhaging to death. Cheers Duke.

I recently added a Kansbol to my collection just to realize my Eldris does the compound grind so much better. Really I just wanted to complete the matching handle set of those with the Garberg.
