He has every right to be upset. Just because his job requires him to be open about his daily life, that doesn't give ANYONE the right to invade his and Jenna's privacy. Their job is to entertain on camera, not in person, randomly, at their own home.

Think of it this way. You go to work in McDonald's everyday. Serving customers and greeting them. You come home to your safe place to relax and unwind, when you hear a knock at the door. Someone followed you home from work and wants to talk to you. Because 'oh but youre so nice and you greeted me how can you not expect this when your job is to be out interacting with the public'. That's exactly how this feels for youtubers. They're not plagued by paparazzi they're common people that like to film videos. You wouldn't want a stranger showing up at your house so don't support showing up at theirs they're people too

@DekkarJr6 жыл бұрын
Well that was in public :P. In public, famous people are generally more prepared to be recognized. The home is a sacred space though. And yeah Jenna is an absolute sweetheart. The very fact that she made a 47 minute video about apologizing for making some fish feel *uncomfortable* is a testament to the credibility of her compassion. Part of the problem is that lots of celebrities live in LA, and because they make a lot of money, they live in the nicer areas, so it's become like a big tourist attraction where they are all mostly grouped into a socioeconomic zone and with the bus tours they take and show you celebrities houses on a fucking bus riding through residential neighborhoods with a tour guide and every thing... that has created a normalization of that culture. Me personally, if I was a youtuber or a famous person - I would get the hell out of LA. The entire state of Cali is a mess anyway. Total state and local government mismanagement on a massive scale, from out of control fires, to the fact that for decades they could've been building desalination plants along the coast and pumping sea water into California to relieve the drought and the fires is insane that they have not done that. Not to mention the horrendous traffic and the sheer size of the city, and one major shift eventually will happen on that San Andreas fault line and that city will be covered in destruction and death. Why people are still moving to an overpopulated mega city is beyond me. IDK where I would go to live, probably like Colorado would be first choice. But it'd be somewhere where going to a celebrities home is not a normal thing to do. I live in Florida and there are tons of celebrities that live here, and I've never heard of anyone driving through Orlando trying to find and trespass onto their properties. And it's not like people don't know where they live - it's the most expensive, biggest mansion sized houses part of town. But they live normally among neighbors who are just rich from their own normal careers. Bankers, lawyers, doctors etc.

I almost met Dan and Phil at an airport once less than 24 hours after seeing them on tour. Just like we all have days off, so do celebrities. And of course it's uncomfortable when strangers find your home and basically wait for you outside it. What if you worked retail and one of your regulars followed you home? It's weird and creepy. Fan meetings should be limited to events that KZbinrs are participating (ie working) in. You wouldn't work on your days off, so don't expect KZbinrs to either.

Revisiting this after the James Charles thing. The way people think, as entitled as they are, is so alien to me it’s ridiculous. To those who say “well we pay your bills so you owe us” or things to that effect, that is the biggest non-argument, it makes zero sense. If I work for McDonalds, my manager, the ceo and the customer, all of whom you could argue ‘pay my bills’ would not even slightly be entitled to go to my home, stalk me, or invade my personal space in any way. And remember, several celebrities have been murdered by people purporting to be their Biggest Fan, including Christina Grimmie, Selena, and John Lennon, the latter of whom used to have people hang out in front of his apartment building to get his autograph, which is exactly where he was shot.

Ridiculously late comment/reply, but people find American addresses on WhitePages. Years ago I told a man to leave me the hell alone, and he used that to find me. He's a lunatic, and that site gave him the ability to find me. Now I'm always afraid he will do something bad (he sent demands like dating him or else he'd be dangerous). So yeah. If anyone on here reads this comment, look yourself up on WhitePages, and if you find yourself, contact the website and demand they take your information and your family's information off. I'll never feel safe in my own house again. All stalkers need is your name and general age, and the website gives them everything else. It even tells them where you've moved to, and if the stalker pays money, it will tell them if you changed your name, etc. It destroyed my life.

Anyone who would even stalk them enough to send packages is crazy! I have no clue what happened to youtube being a fun place to post funny videos. Now people do things like this and you have to be careful. RESPECT ALL CREATORS! MEET THEM AT VIDCON!

To everyone complaining that Julien is overreacting, put yourself in his shoes, for one second. Imagine that your job made you some type of public figure. I'm a novelist and although I don't think anyone really cares about my personal life, I can at least imagine how I would feel if someone was standing outside the door to my home and said they were a reader / fan. I would feel unsafe and I would be concerned about my privacy being violated. What if you work at Subway, and someone stalked you down at your house to tell you they liked the sandwich you made - would that not feel unsettling? Same thing. I'm sure that regardless of what you do for a living, you can relate in some way. Respect people's privacy and right to a personal life separate from what they do for a living. There are appropriate times and places in which to meet your favorite public figures.

This is way late, but your comment reminded me of the whole "Alex from Target" thing....which I never fully understood. So some chick thought a guy was cute, took his pic at work and posted it to the internet? Then people glorified it???!!! Then you have the likes of Ellen (ugh) making that seem acceptable. I don't think everyone would've thought it was so cute say it was some dude snapping pics of a girl at her job. People's privacy has just been eroded by viral internet culture. Julien was totally right, and if I were him I would've had few more nsfw expletives to tell that lady.

Julien has every right to be upset. We all know the dink fam is very important to him and Jenna. But their safety and right to privacy is MOST important. And it's absolutely disgusting that some of y'all think Julien is being a douche or needs to be "more positive" about the matter. From someone who's been in a similar situation, it's absolutely terrifying when your safety is threatened at your own home.

I adore you guys and am so sorry that this happened to you. You have every right to be upset! And I actually think that you handled this very well!
@EddyB_7 жыл бұрын
Really? You think to create a rant with a very specific (but anonymous) target in mind is handling it well? I'm sure these people and the Postmate guy are not feeling too great when a person with status targets them to a very one-sided support group. This is a sad way of addressing a problem and you people need to stop saying "sorry this happened to you". Stop pretending like you guys are his buddy and sucking up so hard.
@kelleya67027 жыл бұрын
Edwin B yeah I do think that he handled it well. He did not curse people out. He didn't give names. They are still anonymous. He's trying to handle it before something more serious could happen. They are very personable with their fans, but there is a line you do not cross. It's not like showing up at a place that they announced that they would be. It's their home! I would be freaked out too cause adults should know better! I'm not kissing anyone's ass. I think it's shitty and messed up that he even has to address this issue.
@EddyB_7 жыл бұрын
So it's okay to essentially bully someone online as long as they're the only one who knows they are being addressed in this video? Venting is one thing. But addressing people as bad parents and saying "poor fucking child" like their parents are the worst human beings and probably making that whole family feel bad is a bit much. There are more civil ways to address issues than to rant with directed intent to your heavily biased audience. But you'll never change your opinion because you'll follow blindly. And I bet anything if you were walking around and saw Jenna and Julien walking around that you wouldn't go "oh neat" and leave them be. You'd either take a picture from a distance or go approach them in person. Both of which are an invasion of privacy. But you won't admit it because, internet and unforeseeable foresight!
@kelleya67027 жыл бұрын
This is an open statement. Not bullying. If it were I'd be the first person to be say dude that's a bit harsh. Invasion of privacy is not cool. And honestly I am a shy introverted person. I'd probably freak on the inside and keep to myself, but that situation is still not at their home! That is the main thing here. It's their home!

" but for a grown ass adult to drive there and basically stalk them is fucked! Its just another little piece of proof that society on a whole is losing humanity and brain cells. Honestly, I feel like Jenna and Julian are the most raw and honest out of everyone else on youtube. Sometimes, with youtubers, it can feel like they're your best friend, but they're not. We can be Dink Fam, but that doesn't give us a free pass to show up at their house and expect them to invite us in. our relationship with them has a glass screen dividing us, and we need to realize that that screen can break if too much pressure is put on it.

When you share your personal life with millions,and millions of people,it's not that strange to understand why they feel like they're on a more personal level with you.Celebrities want the fame and money,but aren't realistic if they think there will never be any precautions.I think they are really nice people,but that's the problem,they make it seem like they're really approachable,but they're not.How do they think real celebrities feel when those stupid tour buses go by their home every single day? If that kid traveled across country spending all their money expecting to get into your house you're allowed to call the police and report them for harassment. Don't assume this is people seeing them on the street. It's not. It's expecting them to trust a rando who was insane enough to track them down and fully believe they would be welcomed into their house, with their family, while they had zero knowledge of whether they were crazy (other than actually showing up at their house). Celebrities have died from fans doing this kinda shit. You don't accept food from fans, you don't tell anyone your home location, and you can't even joke about inviting the internet to your house. While you might have inspired 1 out of the hundred(s) who showed up on your doorstep, the others think you're their honest friend without ever having met or knowing their name- and if you don't call that crazy you just might be killed by one of them for being naive. That or you are the crazy who thought it'd be cool to show up on their doorstep. Those people need help. Not enablement. Glue drinks man, glue drinks.
