He did try for Giovanni's Earth badge, but was stomped by Mewtwo, even allowed to use 2 Pokemon, the 1st double battle in the series I think, against solo Mewtwo... and he flattened.

I have a theory about how Gary had 10 badges when Kanto only has 8 gyms. Remember how there was a fighting gym next to the psychic gym that had lost its status? The place where you can get a hitmonchan or hitmonlee, maybe Gary was able to get to them before they lost their status and had a badge to give. That would be 9 badges, so for the 10th...maybe Lavender Town had a secret ghost type gym?

There was a town with two gyms that were trying to qualify for league status in that one episode from which that one meme with Ash getting held up by three people comes from, with the heavy implication that they would both be certified off-screen. Gary probably went and beat those.

There is in a way. For example, in Sword and Shield, a couple of the gyms are different, depending on which version you are playing. So, don't like going up against a Fighting gym? Play Shield instead of Sword.

@@laurencebrown3822 Heck this is implied even back in gen 1, the Karate King used to be a gym leader, until Sabrina stomped him because only 8 could be registered as gyms at a time and well 1 city probably can't have more than 1 gym, so Karate King and Sabrina had to battle it out and well... fighting vs psychic not really balanced lol (similarly and expanded upon in SwSh, seeing how gym leaders to compete to keep or get their gyms verified, why you can get an electric jersey despite there not being an electric gym in either version, your rivals (I forget the names of) in the Isle of Armor DLC being... children of ex gym leaders? They want their gyms verified, thus why they train at the isle of armor). Then even in Johto games, you can hold up to 16, 8 from Johto, 8 from Kanto, and Janine took up her father's gym, who is now in the elite 4. Thus meaning she proved her strength and was able to keep her father's gym in the rankings of the Indigo League.

On the whole water and grass type thing being more prominent than fire, it might be because they very rarely put fire types in random routes. They're usually close to some sort of hot area. Grass types will usually dominate super grassy and forest areas, and of course water types are going to be in the water. In other words the areas that you would find water and grass types in are much more common than what is usual for a fire type. Which is a shame.

In regards to the high cartridge costs seen at 4:17, some used game stores sell them by the value of the save game file inside on top of the rarity of the physical cartridge; where the games were traded in without being reset, leading to some cartridges having endgame level pokemon and gear that could then be traded out where possible. In fact, that's what my local used game store told me when I asked why one version was almost average used price but the other was marked up by almost 100. Even booted up the cartridge just to show that it was an endgame character with a bunch of high level pokemon.

2:34 conspiracy: if you take a closer look at Garys Badges, you notice that only 4 of them are official Kanto Badges. Rock, Grass, Water and Fire - thats the 4 legitimate Badges, that he won. So unless Kanto has atleast 14 Gymleaders, his other 6 Badges are fake. Back then, only 15 Types existed, Steel, Dark and Fairy were introduced later. The official 8 were Rock, Water, electro, grass, Psychic, Poison, Fire and Ground That leaves us Fighting, Ice, Flying, Bug, Normal, Ghost and Dragon. Back then, every Badge had a Connection to its Type and it would be a tough debate, if any of those 6 "optional" Badges resemble a Type. Thats why i think that at this Point, he just wanted to annoy Ash. Thats why he placed some fake Badges in that Case. He lost against Giovanni, so he never got the Ground Badge. Im pretty sure he would have never engaged Sabrina, she had a kink of turning People into Dolls back then^^ His starter was Squirtle, so he wouldnt use it in the electric Gym. Level-wise, neither his Growlithe, Eevee, Nidorina or Nidorino would be strong enough/evolved at this point. So he went from Cerulean City to Celadon City and at some point reached Cinnabar Island. But what he did in the meantime..... no clue^^
