Not only was Zappa a character, he was a musical genius, satirist, and a great intellectual. He was an accomplished musician, composer, and bandleader. His work was characterized by his non-conformity and was huge during the 70s. If you were in the mood for something different and off the beaten path, no one did this better than Zappa. Rest in Peace, Frank Zappa. Thanks for this reaction! ✌💙✌

Zappa is in a class all by himself, his music collection goes on forever and pulls from everywhere imaginable. It just so happens that this group of three songs were the first Zappa I ever heard, thanks to my older brother, in about 1978. I was 13 and my first thought was "What did I just listen to!" 44 years later and having seen him live 3 times, I don't ask that anymore.🙂

"OFF THE WALLS".... Perfect..... Frank Zappa.... (1940-1993) Composer, guitarist, singer, and bandleader Frank Zappa was a singular musical figure during a performing and recording career that lasted from the 1960s to the ‘90s. His disparate influences included doo wop music and avant-garde classical music; although he led groups that could be called rock & roll bands for much of his career, he used them to create a hybrid style that bordered on jazz and complicated, modern serious music, sometimes inducing orchestras to play along. As if his music were not challenging enough, he overlay it with highly satirical and sometimes abstractly humorous lyrics and song titles that marked him as coming out of a provocative literary tradition that included Beat poets like Allen Ginsberg and edgy comedians like Lenny Bruce. Nominally, he was a popular musician, but his recordings rarely earned significant airplay or sales, yet he was able to gain control of his recorded work and issue it successfully through his own labels while also touring internationally, in part because of the respect he earned from a dedicated cult of fans and many serious musicians, and also because he was an articulate spokesman who promoted himself into a media star through extensive interviews he considered to be a part of his creative effort just like his music. The Mothers of Invention, the ‘60s group he led, often seemed to offer a parody of popular music and the counterculture (although he affected long hair and jeans, Zappa was openly scornful of hippies and drug use). By the '80s, he was testifying before Congress in opposition to censorship (and editing his testimony into one of his albums). But these comic and serious sides were complementary, not contradictory. In statement and in practice, Zappa was an iconoclastic defender of the freest possible expression of ideas. And most of all, he was a composer far more ambitious than any other rock musician of his time and most classical musicians, as well.

Been waiting for someone to get to this one. Congratulations 🎊. Ya really have to like "jazz" to appreciate the incredible musicianship , which is off the chain in a good way ,but I believe a lot of Zappa is making a point that lyrics aren't always important. Not to say there isn't a great message here. I mean "Don't eat the yellow snow ". Being a Florida guy ? Good to know. Hitting an Eskimo's baby seal with a lead filled snowshoe ? Bad idea... don't ,and St. Alfonso's is the place to go, after trudging accross the tundra. Mile after mile to get what I'm assuming are some awesome pancakes. Zappa's voice is always so clear, the music is next level. Saw him a couple times in the 70s. Lotta fun... Capt.Bob

Damn, JM, we really did listen to all kinds of sh*t. Zappa was indeed a creative genius and very intelligent. His music wasn’t mainstream getting a lot of air time play not because his music was quirky but because he wouldn’t play the music industry’s game. I hope you’ll listen to this band again because most of their stuff isn’t as ‘chaotic’ as "Yellow Snow". Having a good time with lyrics is par for the course, however. After listening to this, I’m sure the following won’t surprise you… the names of Frank & Gail Zappa’s 4 children. They had 2 daughters, Moon Unit and Diva Muffin, and 2 sons Dweezil and Ahmet Emuukha Rodan. Well, maybe it surprised you a little. 😂 (I almost hated to give a like to this one because the count was at 69. I think Frank would have approved.)

Well, ya dun opened the proverbial can of worms with this one. Zappa made over 60 albums, most are just as creative as this one (thank you for playing the other 2 songs after Yellow Snow or it wouldn't have been contiguous.). Believe it or not, Frank was completely against drugs and drinking and actually fired a member of his band when he was caught. In 1976, me and 9 other college students had the privilege of going to one of his concerts in a small venue that only held 2,000 people. If you want to hear one of his epic stories, open this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aonWpoyDqdN2gbs It's 25 minute side called: Billy The Mountain from the album called "Just Another Band from LA".
