I fertilized when planting the seed with 10-10-10, then again when they were knee high. The corn has done just fine and the ears look amazing.

I got a 10x10 plot i planted this year. Its been a rough year with health issues. So i struggled to get that corn in the ground. Even went as far as taking a stick and a water hose and counterattacked the army worms because the budeget didnt allow for bt. Well when that storm came through here and laid the back section of my plot over and it didnt stand back up on its on I trellised them. I did a make shift florida weave and stood them suckers back up. And they are doing really good. Lol.
@BIGALTX Жыл бұрын
That’s what I do. Put in some t posts and some string between the rows to hold the corn up. I haven’t done it yet… But I need to get on it pretty doggone quick. Thanks for the reminder.

Love that clone of yours might be little slower but it works. BTW ive been using totes of months old straight chicken poop, corn is green at 3 ft tall and i hilled it twice. Pays off cleaning the coop and run everyday.

I use calcium nitrate in my tomato and pepper hydroponics water. Have to keep it in the house durn stuff melts in The Texas heat. I use it on my corn but I mix it with water and water it in. I do mine about 4 times. Kinda like Hoss said on video fertilize corn until the tips of leaves burn. Every year I grew hydropnics but not this year just didnt feel like messing with it but it grows veggies way bigger n better than dirt.
@BIGALTX Жыл бұрын
I’ve never tried hydroponics, but I have researched it quite a bit. Seems like a lot of trouble, but pretty cool.

Hey, Thats Cheating...You've got TWO of ya working in the Garden. LOL.. I was going to suggest covering up the trench you fertilized with some compost, but you done covered it up. LOL Looking forward to seeing how your corn does this year and the updates you share with us. "It's ALWAYS best to under fertilize, than over fertilize" is what my Grandmother used to always tell us. I can remember seeing some of the best and greenish corn at her house.

@@BIGALTX Yea, a lot of folks use to just ignore the elderly. Thinking they just rambled on and on about nothing worth listening too. I use to love hearing their stories about past times and so much knowledge they had that was so priceless. Folks now days are going to be hurting if it gets back to those times again. Atleast some will be.

Do you guys see advantages to planting your corn in these crates compared to direct seeding or transplanting?
@BIGALTX Жыл бұрын
Not a lot of advantages. But, for me... the one advantage is that my young corn won't wash away in a hard rain. (my gardens are on a slope) I had that happen over and over with my corn when it was a few inches tall. In these raised beds, that has never happened.

I tried using corn as a "Living Fence" at one of the places I used to live in Toronto.... I quickly learned it was a bad idea... soon as corn appeared, so did the raccoons & squirrels... lol..

Tub Garden Question: They are only about 6" deep, but I have the bottoms cut out of them. I got them from a business that was throwing them away 15 or so years ago They are industrial, very heavy duty totes...about 15 LBS empty I can't get any more 🙁 I saw some on Amazon a few years ago and they were 80 bucks each !!
