Well the video has been debunked by channels such as Mic the Vegan, WIL has been dishonest about other claims too (probably funded). Plants contain all the amino acids just in different degrees to animal proteins they are never incomplete, there's only one incomplete protein and that's from gelatine which is derived from animals ironically. Greg is posting this video due to confirmation bias. There's plenty of vegan lifters in great shape if gains and this marketing obsession with protein matter so much for gains you might as well go on roids because changing from plants to animal protein will make negligible difference in terms of body composition.
@goat6inboots2 жыл бұрын
@@zodd67 Plants do contain the amino acid profile, to different degrees, but that is just a clever way of saying that it does not contain as much protein. It was far easier for me to hit protein number years ago when I was omnivorous. However, the main point of contention is actually digestibility and the likes of Huberman and other renowned professors have confirmed that. Someone disagreeing with you doesn't necessarily have confirmation bias indeed your own bias may force you to believe that their views are irrational because they do not confirm to your own researc. You also know that stating that there are vegans and vegetarians in great shape is an extremely weak argument as it neither proves nor disproves your point. Going on steroids is a completely different matter. I am in great shape and don't eat meat, but it has required far more education and effort to match my previous diet and I love the change I have made and wouldn't ever go back as it benefited me in so many other ways beyond the small sphere of simply making our bodies have muscles. Wishing you all the best with your diet and training.
@zodd672 жыл бұрын
@@goat6inboots Huberman eats butter because he feels it's good for him, Mic the vegan made a video about him too, just because he has credentials in other things doesn't mean he knows anything about nutrition "It was far easier for me to hit protein number years ago when I was omnivorous" The protein number is exaggerated by marketing and fitness gurus, you don't need to consume silly numbers of protein everyday. Some of it's been linked to cancer due to Leucine, the one high in animal products raising IGF-1 etc "Someone disagreeing with you doesn't necessarily have confirmation bias indeed your own bias may force you to believe that their views are irrational because they do not confirm to your own researc." Let's see Greg even watch Mic's video then let's hear his counters? That ain't gonna happen since Greg would never cross reference and watch Mic's video that's the issue. If you see both sides it becomes clear which side looks much better in the science. I have a bias after listening to both sides because one is definitely better than the other but people refuse to see that side.
@goat6inboots2 жыл бұрын
@@zodd67 I agree with you that someone having credentials in one area doesn’t necessarily mean that they are right about other things. But he spends a lot of time researching with people who do work in this area and I like his methodical approach to things. However I’ll listen to some of Mic the vegans videos as you’ve mentioned him and see if I can get alternative views. I’m sure a lot of exaggerated by the marketing industry and I know that meat will certainly kill you. However even with exaggeration I do think that meat eaters find it easier to hit normal protein numbers because you just have more choice however I haven’t had problems as I like a lot of vegetarian food and eat a vast variety. @@Danuxsy I mean ofc they do but the amount they contain each aminoacids vary and you may not get enough some. For example Soy I do believe has a "complete" AA profile while as lentils are lacking in some parts etc.

@@Danuxsy absolutely right. They do have it all but just maybe not enough of it to provide you with the needed amounts. That is why you diversify. And why say Vegan Protein Blends are good because they are tailored so that the user will have enough all amino acids.

You also might be getting the same amount of protein but aren't getting the same amount of calories. It takes so much more to get the same amount of protein in non-meat sources as it does in meat sources, to get the recommended daily protein you are almost certainly going to have to over eat if you aren't getting it from meat.

I think this is an important message to get out there, especially for vegetarians and vegans. However a number of researchers have delved into that video by What I've Learned and found that he didn't look into/ misrepresented to data considerably in a number of cases. I still think it's very important - especially for vegans and vegetarians, even moreso if they're exercising heavily and trying to build muscle - to be mindful of their protein intake, but the bottom line is it's very difficult on a modern diet not to meet protein requirements.

This is why I only count my protein from whole sources. If I eat other proteins that add above my goal (1g per lb) then cool it's a bonus. But I get no less than 1g per lb from whole sources, and I don't count bread, rice, beans etc etc. This is also why I don't eat raw egg whites (some people add pasterized egg whites to their uncooked shakes) and the bioavailability of raw egg whites is horrendously low (50% bioavailability compared to 90+% cooked egg whites).

Growth hormones added to the chicken and beef in developed countries make the population grow taller and bigger too, together with all the other health problems like cancer. I grew up in cuba and saw this first hand, our food was more natural and although the average height is 5.6ft we have plenty of 6ft tall plus guys there but this is 100% due to genetics. Here in the USA allot of first generation immigrants families with natural heights have kids that grow much taller than their genetics would’ve allowed in their country of origin.

This video illustrates why I’m not vegetarian. I would rather be vegetarian, I have a strong preference for vegetarian meals taste-wise (maybe a little morality-wise)… but the high quality protein struggle is real. So, I make a conscious effort to do the chicken and the eggs and choose the right fish sources to hit the minimum requirement for my fitness goals when I’d rather have a bowl of rice or pasta.

In the Wilks vs Kresser debate on Joe Rogan, it was explained that the DIAAS scoring system is only really relevant in underdeveloped countries where people aren’t getting enough calories in general, let alone protein. They should prioritize sources with a higher score. But if you’re generally well-fed and getting enough calories/protein, the “quality” of the protein isn’t going to make much difference, if any at all
@hata62902 жыл бұрын
yep. also i really dont like how high that recommendation for protein was
@liammarshall-butler33842 жыл бұрын
It's still true that vegans should try to eat from a variety of foods, even if the DIAAS scoring system isn't a relevant metric. There are a lot of videos where unnatural vegan shows in vegan what I ate in a day videos, that they don't get the ideal amount of all essential amino acids.
@discobites2 жыл бұрын
@@liammarshall-butler3384 yeah that’s kind of true for everyone. You should incorporate a variety of foods into your diet. I tried to explain to a Vegan that not all proteins digest the same and the absorption of plant protein is less in the digestive track than animal protein. And that’s y we eat animals. Animals like cows have to proper digestive track to absorb almost all of the protein from plants while we do not, but we have the digestive tract to properly digest and absorb all of the protein from meat.
