If your thinking about swapping out that winch cable for a new fancy lightweight synthetic rope Tyler is here to show you how.
Follow Tyler on IG: @4x4toyotatyler
There are some essential steps you need to perform before installing the rope. Make sure you sand down the drum and remove any burs from your fairlead.
Our Favorit Synthetic Rope: freedomropes.com/shop?olsPage...
Factor55 Hawse Fairlead: amzn.to/2vJpjQH
Factor 55 UltraHook: amzn.to/2TruM7V
Mechanix Wear - Original Work Gloves: amzn.to/38qHk3Q
Sandpaper Assorted Grit: amzn.to/2wxFCjT
Once you have 7-9 (prefer 9) wraps around the drum you can start winching in the entire rope. Use a sturdy object on the far end of the rope and winch your rig towards it using the breaks and putting resistance onto the rope.

Anyone watching this video, don’t ever have your hands so close to the fairlead when you are winching in, even when there’s no load like those first few wraps. If your glove was to get snagged in the line or in between the line and the fairlead it’ll pull your hand in a second. Please stay 3 to 4 feet back when spooling any kind of winch line. It’s also better to handle line handover hand rather than having it slide through. This is from the days of wire rope with birds that could cut you open. While certainly less of an issue with synthetic rope, there still could be a thorn or stick or something in that line which grabs you and handover hand works. Thanks!

Should have used a button head bolt to eliminate sharp corners that hex bolts have. Otherwise, very helpful

When you thread the rope thru the spool, there should be enough pulled through to knot under the first wrap of the spool and pull across the drum. The bolt is not a good anchor and that steel head will definitely cause wear on the rope.

Was thinking the same, don’t like that bolt head, thinking of pulling about eight inches of the rope (8 in drum) through that hole using the set screw that was already in there but threading the end of the rope through the other side of the rope which will lock the rope in the hole, then laying the end of the rope across the drum, , taping it down with gorilla tape , and wrapping the rope around that end, should hold tight with tension on the wraps

Good color choice in the winch line. Looks evenly wound. I agree that you want some tension as you spool the line in, doesn't have to be crazy tight but enough to keep it in place 👍

Next time electric tape around the rope then cut then light on fire or you can use heat shrink tubing if you have it that size.

If anyone’s was super stuck like mine and your hand won’t do the trick: Attach it to a tree or another vehicle. Go out as far as you can under tension then hit out. Might have to do this a few times.

I'm new in the trucking business. One of my 13-Tons Mercedes trucks got stuck in sand near the River bed loading sands for construction. For three days, I had no idea what equipment I should use to retrieve them. After days of online research, I've yet to decide which of the competitive Brands may be good for retrieving trucks in the rainforest, sans and muddy terrain - WARN, SMITTYBILT, XRC Gen 3 Winch and unknown others that can pull 25,000 or more if money is not a problem?

Why couldn't you just use that bolt to go through the eye on the winch rope? Seems sketchier with the bolt onto the rope like that. But I suppose friction from spooling should prevent too much stress on it.
@SnailTrail4x4
@SnailTrail4x4 4 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't have worked like that, its a set screw not a bolt. Anyways your correct that it just is needed to start the line, the line holds onto the drum with the loops around it.

@@johngillette463 Yes that is possible. The likelihood is pretty low. It also depends on the roller fairleads. Robert Pepper and Bill Burke’s are big advocates of roller over hawse.
