Wish the nuckle on my ‘92 yj would come out that easy; it’s as if is welded to the ball joints. Tried everything…Will crack the nuckle and buy new wans…Thanks for the video!

Use anti seize on the ball joints, put a good coat on the before you press them in

Thanks for doing this! Plan on replacing mine soon, and was relieved to see that the hardest part about doing this will be just breaking the old bolts free.

Just finished the upper & Lower Ball Joints in my kid's 2000 TJ. Watched this one a few times before getting started. I had to deal with way more rust than in your video, but this was a great reference for me and really well instructed. Thanks for all these videos, after viewing your video on the rear main seal, I may be taking that on next.

Hey one hint for the future when removing the hub dont take the bolts out all the way put a deepwell socket on the bolts and you can use the power steering to press the hub off

When you made this video, did you rent or buy your own ball joint removal kit? If you bought, which one did you buy? I'm looking at doing my ball joints on the 16th of October for my 1992 YJ.

Any advice on a STUCK lower ball joint on a jku? I’m talkin stuck. 2011 in Ohio it’s whole life and I just bought her and apparently rust was never a thought. I’ve tried heat, a press (in both variations) and a good ol Fashioned hammer. Been going at it for 3 hours and I’m at my whits end! Any advice would be great!

Dale, thanks for the video. You have marks on the upper running surface of the brake pads to the knuckle. You should fix that before installing new pads etc. Pad can stuck in the marks which leads to uneven wear or worse ...

Hi, my '92 YJ ball joint nuts came off, the upper part of the steering knuckle came loose at the threads but the lower part of the knuckle is stuck to the threads (The steering knuckle moves up and down, slightly. However, during the up and down movement of the steering knuckle ,the upper "hole" in the steering knuckle has the the threads stationary but the lower part of the knuckle and the threads move together. So the lower threads move with the knuckle and up and down the lower ball joint) I tried the hammer, wrecked a pickle fork (using a jack for pressure) but to no avail. Would you please make some suggestions. I have limited basic tools such as a ball joint press and breaker bars. I also tried WD40. Thanks

I had a question I need help, if anyone here or you can point me in the right direction or what do I need to buy next Heres whats going on, I have a 1991 jeep cherokee 4.0. 217,000 k miles on it, it was burning oil so I had no choice but open it up and see what is going inside. Took off the head saw bad burnt values so I started with the head took them all out cleanded them up and did value job with compound and that rubber tool to re seat them everything looked perfect after that seat was perfect also value steams where changed few months before this so they looked OK. After the head I saw the block walls where smooth with no cross patterns left, so I took all the pistons out rings where not stuck or brunt they moved freely, next I re hoaned the walls to make the crisscross pattern I removed all the rings and cleaned all pistons up everything was super clean and rings where moving like they where new I also replaced the piston bearings cause they showed sign of wear. Before I put everything back I did a simple test put one piston in and poured oil on top of it to see if oil would drop through the rings left it for 2 days no oil went through I did the same test before I did the hoan and clean up of piston rings and oil fell through within hours. So I thought this was a good sign. after hoaning and ring clean up I believed rings where tight and no blow by was going to happen. Then I put everything back in. the car stared perfect and I thought everything was great then I did compression test each read same reading 125.125.125.125.124 126. So I drove it about 100 miles and oil was below safe line, OKi though maybe the rings need time to set in new block walls but no 1000 miles later I'm burning even more oil then before almost a whole quart every 70 miles that's really really bad. My mistake I feel is because I didn't replace the piston rings ? But they looked totally fine and where moving with ease. Please what do you think I did wrong here? I don't want to give up on this jeep but this is crzy how much oil it's going through I'm willing to take it apart again trying to fix it, currently it has good power no blue smoke but the oil I just disappearing. Sorry this is so long but I'm so lost and any help would be greatly appreciated. Do I need to buy new piston rings? Maybe sleeves?

I have my 3 13 mm hub retaining bolts out and still cannot pull the hub out. Any body?
@JeepSolid
@JeepSolid 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Can be a huge pain sometimes. You tried leaving them in, but backed out a bit, enough for a gap, then beat on them with a socket over bolt, a socket you don't mind wrecking? Tried lots of penetrating oil? Could also try heating up knuckle around hub real good, then take a concrete chisel or something and hit around the rim where knuckle and hub meet. To shock it. Break some of it free. Hit all the way around. Then try hitting on back bolts and socket again... There's also a method where you push it out with bolts through the lug holes pushing on the knuckle. Also, make sure you're axle doesn't have a clip holding it in the differential

Hmm, I have the same issue. I tried put the bolts in and smacking them. Didnt budge - i need a torch I think?? I have an ‘89 - im gonna check the manual to make sure I dont have a snap ring on that axel. (Turns out I don’t) I left some PB blaster over on the seem over lunch and used a bigger hammer and a couple chisels (no heat required) 2 hot dogs gave me the strength I needed! Woot woot
