RC car maintenance is a task that often gets ‘put off’ for one reason or another. However, to keep our vehicles in top condition, preventative maintenance is something we all must do between enjoyable sessions of racing or running our vehicles! Believe it or not there are some things that you can do during maintenance that can cause problems later on down the road. We’ve come up with five common maintenance mistakes that you should know before you start working on your RC machine. Here are our tips that will keep you running your vehicles rather than working on them.

Reel Clean is great for RC’s. It’s in the sporting goods department. It’s used for fishing reels,lines and electronics. FYI it’s great on RC’s. It lubricates as it cleans and is safe for plastics.

I'm a newb. I see these videos with obviously "waterproof" RCs operating in sloppy mud bogs, crossing rocky streams, racing along the ocean's edge, and falling two feet deep into a pond; NOBODY says a thing. Mention you rinsed your wheels and suspension with a low-pressure stream from your kitchen sink's hose attachment and you're a vapid dullard to be mocked and impugned.

For the nitro newbies: After run oil. Know it, love it, and your engine will love you back. Whenever you are finished running your rig for the day, remove the glow plug and air filter boot and place a drop or two down the carb and to the piston where the glow plug hole is, then cycle the engine a few times and move the throttle in and out to spread it about. It helps prevent the build up of castor oil from gunking up your engine so it will run just how you remember when you bust it out next time. I like Marvel Mystery Oil myself.

I adore this video, it helped me to quickly grasp a lot of data about what parts are sensitive, what wears out fast, what not to do. I've owned a high-end gasoline RC car for about two years now, and haven't started it because I don't want to harm it. The gas tank is thankfully empty so I'm not too worried, because the prior owner always runs things out of gas before storing them. I don't think he ever put storage gas into the lines but they still seem healthy. Anyway...Do you sell a body for the RC Car? The thin plastic shell with graphics on it. I'm in Fresno California, and I should take the car to a local RC shop - but I feel dumb not knowing anything. I'd like to put a nice looking shell on it before even using it lol.

Hi friend, I'm from Brazil and I have some questions. I would be very happy if you would help me! I have already discovered that it is necessary to apply grease to the outer gears of the differentials, but I really wanted to know if I should also grease the gears of the engine. Example: 6448 parts: Spur gear, 8985: Input gear transmission, both from Traxxas Maxx. Another question is that the center differential gear comes into contact with a motor gear, should I grease it too? Part 8988. Inside Driveshaft 8949, do I also need to apply grease?

Don't be afraid to smear more Grease than you had in there... I packed mine like the real thing. In Crawlers only, of course! They're not as affected by the added drag as a racer or Basher would be. I also primarily use Marine Grease. It doesn't turn to Poo, if water gets in the Axles or Transmission, AND if you do pack it in well enough, the Axle Shafts will push what it doesn't need out of the way. The Grease in the Axle Tube forms a SEAL, preventing liquid and grit from getting TO the Diff.

Don't do that it's a joke and will fuck your shit up, I just take the motor of and tap it with something for a couple minutes and all the debris and shit falls out.
@JViello
@JViello 5 жыл бұрын
@@stpbasss3773 It's not a joke. That's how you run in brushed motors. Back when brushed was the only choice it was common knowledge. You have to let the square brushes wear to the circular rotor shape. Doing it in water gives just enough drag on the motor and keeps everything cool and flushes the carbon dust out too. Afterwards just blow it out, and hit it with some WD40 and you're good to go. DO NOT do this with brushless motors, you will destroy them. Brushed motors are perfectly fine being submerged in water...part of the reason they are great for crawlers.

On a TRX4 it doesn't hurt a thing. However, many RC's say they are waterproof when they are in fact just "splash proof". Hitting those type of RC's with a hose spells trouble. The creator of the vid is talking in general terms, he can't possibly cover every single model out there. The safe advice is to say "Just don't hose it off" even though there are some that will be just fine.

I’m new to the hobby but have my first crawler and take it in rain, mud, and water crossings. Belray marine grease is a wonder on wheelnuts/ bearing in wet conditions. Driveshaft gets dots of dry lube, and the steering knuckles got a quick shot of wd40. (Testing it out to see how much grime builds up) In the summer months, I’m planning on using only small amounts if anything due to dust sticking.

Not unless you want to destroy every part of your car. As well as the motor. Nope,dont do it. Start out with an air compressor and blow off the junk. Use a stiff brush to remove the heavy stuff. Then using a spray bottle,direct the spray onto individual parts,dont just hose everything down. Use old T shirts as rags,or paper towels to clean. Never ever use solvent based cleaners on an RC car. Simple green,or my favorite,purple power,works best. Gently spray on the cleaner,let soak,then use a sparay bottle with clear water to rinse. then use compressed air to blow the water out of everything. If you need to tear down things ,then do it.

So how i can clean my e-revo after driving in mud, when i cannot use water on bearings?
@GeddyRC
@GeddyRC 3 жыл бұрын
I have the same question. I see videos of people cleaning their RCs with water constantly, but "oh god no it'll break everything!" Allllrighty then, so _no_ water? Just an air compressor? Don't think that's gonna do it... I used a hose on my machine earlier because I was terrified that I didn't clean it right away and I had driven through a small puddle (accidentally). I WD-40d the bearings as Traxxas says to do right on the product page and it runs fun now, but I don't have an air compressor. Waiting on some canned air, and then next time I clean it I'll _not_ use water (I guess?) and just use a paint brush.. or.. something. I don't know.

@CodySmiley 3 жыл бұрын
@@GeddyRC you should regrease bearings after driving in water or change them for new ones every 6 months. Use marine grease instead oil. Dont use WD40 on bearings because this is degreaser.

@@aidenmaves5537 not on any bearings unless its to clean. The purpose really is to keep the plastics proper or else they dehydrate and become brittle. And it keeps the screws from rusting just remember wd 40 is fish oil based so it is semi conductive. Works really good as a flame thrower but lets not be silly.😂

Wd40 is not a lubricant!! Everyone says it is but it's not!! It is meant to remove rust and stop stuff from squeaking!! Use a lubricant from an auto store or online. -Kittyboy729

Just put a TINY drop of WD40 on each screw to keep them from rusting out. Too much can cause it to colect dirt. If you're planning on running it in snow, spray a little WD40 on a toothbrush and scrub your bumpers, those will cracking in cold weather

#1 rule: Use common sense! Even though it's not all that common these days. And for Pete's sake check every nut, bolt and screw BEFORE your first run! Remember, these are built on assembly lines by some not so enthusiastic employees. You can have tons-O-fun without breaking things every time out.

This is a hobby that snares grown men, more often than not with technical backgrounds. A 10-year old with an experienced mentor will have fun with this. A 10-year old on his own will likely get frustrated or feel overwhelmed very quickly.

The GamingManiac Dmdkekd A 10 uear old should be taught by someone that knows how to do it. I was tearing my .22 Ruger hunting gun down and cleaning it around that age. Kids now days are too damn smart. They can learn this stuff and by teaching at an early age,they get into the habit of properly maintaing their equipment,saving on repairs,saving money on parts that wear out because of neglect.
