The carriers always make their deals as confusing as possible

Absolutely. I always advocate for buying unlocked directly through the manufacturer. But now the trade ins are completely gutted without the carrier financing, so there’s a lot of credit left on the table if you don’t.

Question for you - I have Magenta 55+ with T-Mobile, so I would still be eligible for the financing promotion from Apple with the device credit. I would be trading in a 14 Pro Max. Also, it's my understanding that the phone is unlocked when you buy it directly from Apple as well? I am going to order for me and my son but wait till they come in stock or preorder them. Thanks for your video.

Thank you for watching! Unfortunately, I don't have the best news for you. What T-Mobile (and I believe most carriers do) is come out with new plan titles/promotions which denigrates the prior plans. They have gone away with the "Magenta" plans and now run the "Go 5G" plans. In your case, I don't think that the magenta (55+) plan would would yield any type of promotion, and they would make you upgrade to the Go 5G Plus 55 plan in order to get the full promotion. I checked on the website and it looks like they would allow you to upgrade every 2 years with this plan, and I assume you would get the full $800 promotion. T-Mobile Go5G Plus 55 - tinyurl.com/z7bhb4xz If you buy directly from apple without a carrier, it is unlocked right away. If you have financing through T-mobile even when purchasing through Apple, it is locked to T-Mobile BUT it is unlocked the moment it is paid off in full. I'm not sure what your monthly payment is and if you'd be willing to upgrade plans in order to get the promotions, but that would be your best bet unless you'd be okay with the Apple trade in values when purchasing unlocked. Apple Trade Ins - tinyurl.com/284wxt2z I hope this helped, best of luck!

Yes thru Apple’s website they are unlocked

They are unlocked if you purchase them unlocked or if they are paid off. If you purchase them via Apple and with carrier financing, they have to be fully paid off before technically being unlocked.
