The degree of ignorance and misinformation about Africa, even among members of the black family, is shocking! Days ago a colleague, a well educated AA lady, asked me a question about Ghana. I answered and took pains to explain a lot of other things, including sharing some easily-verifiable historical facts with her; and all along it was like I was talking to a brick wall. She just couldn't bring herself to believe what I was saying. To her credit though, she politely listened and thanked me. These guys have damaged us big time, and we have a lot of work to do to liberate our minds from their misinformation, indoctrination and lies. Sad!

The truth is if the connection between Africans on the continent and those in the diaspora reach its ultimate climax the world has to bow to have a stance with us. So the best way forward for them was to kill that connection between us and we've allowed them to do that all these while but this generation of ours is turning the clocks and its gonna be massive. The beauty of this universe is hidden on this continent it is up for us to decide on letting it shine or not.

I was born in Ghana but left when young, so based on media representation of Africa 🌍, I was petrified to return to Ghana 🇬🇭. I thought I'd catch some disease and die an untimely death! It took ✈️ visiting on 3 SEPARATE occasions (staying for 6months in one of the visits) to convince my Western-media-miseducated brain that Ghana was as fabulous as I'd experienced on all the stays. I'm relocating there to build and live my best life 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

I once told a co-worker my brother was a businessman in the Gambia. His response to me was like "How can you be a businessman in Africa?" His heritage was from Mexico via Texas. I was floored by that query. I wanted to ask him "Do you think the continent of Africa is dead or uninhabited? I mean how do you think people get the things they need?" Americans seem to forget that the US used to be a colony like many others around the world. there's an anglophone Africa, francophone Africa, etc. I think west Africa launched a FAR MORE effective defense against COVID than the USA!!!

Nothing stifles a human being more than negative vibes. I therefore feel that part of the objective behind this negative narrative about Africa is to break the spirit of Black people in America. One does not see the same negativity and scorn in relation to India (for example). Yet there is not much that is fundamentally different between living standards in Africa and India. The greatest impediment to grand development in Africa is tolerance to corruption, rather than the work ethic/intellect of the people. Rwanda and Botswana are two examples of countries in Africa that have significantly clamped down on corruption, and the results are there for all to see. I applaud your efforts to use your channel to correct the unsavory myths

I'm so glad for videos like this. I LOVE Nigeria. But I'm so hesitant about ever living there because as much as I know them and love them, they are tribalistic🤷🏽♀️. But fun loving people. However, it won't stop me from visiting. But Ghana is not tribalstic. I never get that from them. So it's easier to adapt to Ghanaian culture. My parents are Jamaican and I hate to say it. But the media has even made me scared to go there. However, the media's narrative won't stop me. So media affects so many of us that are on the outside. I can't tell you how many of my African friends or aunts try to discourage me from the move (more so Nigerians)😁😁. Some will judge another country based on bias or from their experiences in their own country which might not be widespread. And some are excited for me to go. I find my Ghanaians are exuberant about it! Easy to Transportation. I know the other countries will catch up. It's happening. Our minds need transforming ☺️. It's in motion.

I’m a French Ghanaian, every time I go to Ghana on holidays I usually tend to live an European lifestyle, go to the mall, beach etc... it’s expensive. International products mainly imported, many foreigners, the cost of living in Accra has increased. However, if you adapt yourself to the local life then it’s okay. Other Ghanaian cities are less expensive.
@py204 жыл бұрын
Yes, Accra is expensive to live, no doubt about that. But let's not mistake Ghana for Accra and vice-versa. Most places in Ghana aren't that expensive at all, but everyone wants to live in Accra. Even in Accra, one can live a reasonably descent life on a modest income; it all comes down to your taste and lifestyle.

IF black people( people of african descent )was unified and ready to make history an create generational wealth , we could get 10,000 black people to invest a minimum of 250$ each month for 4 months or ,that’s 10 M$ in spending power. We could then take that to a country like The Gambia. 10M$ in The Gambia would be more like 15M$ due to the value of the dollar and it being a cash society.We could acquire land and open businesses and employ locals a few businesses in grave demand would be ... 1.cement manufacturers, lumber manufacturers, lumber services, Semi trucks 2.Commercial farming and fishing exporting through out the continent 3. Recycling factories rubber, glass,scrap metal, and also fish processing to create fish oils 4.Riverfront communities with luxury amenities for guest Time shares for investors 5.Manufacturing of furniture and other household goods 6.Commercial Laundry Mats 7. Create a Financial Institution where we could invest in the locals of African Descent and their businesses in terms of growing the gambia 8.Providing electronic products and internet services( Used and new phones, tv, gaming systems,) 9.Auto Sales/ Auto Mechanics/ Auto Parts store 10.Crude oil plants which is in virtually everything - www.ranken-energy.com/index.php/products-made-from-petroleum/ 11.Investing in a education institution that primarily focuses on Technology, Sciences, and Math I don’t know about you but i am sick and tired of every person not of African descent taking over , this peaceful african man has to cease ; We have to form a standard military with rigorous training once we get into Africa who governs police stations,and protecting our communities most importantly get into politics or overthrow them simply(if we don’t change together then the colonizers will make change )create wealth for the whole country. Back the country value of currency with Natural resources ,start drilling Oil and get those colonizers out of the Continent. We have to first build up the Heavy industry ..The building of Factories/ Warehouses and bidding on jobs the mining of (coal, iron ore, salt, oil, gas, and gold). Then We have to become the worlds factory floor and develop all of the low tech manufacturing( all electronics), Advance and invest in Solar Internet/wifi, Each increment of 250$ would act as a share. ultimately getting paid a percentage off all profits. Ultimately the goal is to force the chinese and other people that’s (not of African descent) out of business. We could organize a FB group and advertise to other streams of social media to draw support and or interest. If your reading this ,comment your ideas and if it sounds achievable!! feel free to connect with me if you would like to be apart of this! makeafricagreatagain21@gmail.com

It is crazy how the Tarzan myth misinformed people about Africa, but also fed into the black fear narrative. SMH. Damn them lies!

For me the thing that I like the most about Ghana is black Ghanaians are in control, no upper class of former colonisers controlling the country, and enjoying the legacy of the colonial era. This is very important if you are coming from places like US, the last thing you want is to be second class.

I'm retired will I continue to receive my retirement checks and social security checks?
@ExpatLifeGhana4 жыл бұрын
From my experience, you will have to receive it in an American bank account and make arrangements for transferring or wiring it to you in Ghana. Those fees can add up but more and more banks offer debit cards with low international fees. We are still working through the most efficient way to move money around and I will let you know what we come up with!

I’m Ghanaian but live in the US. Best way is to have an account in Ghana as well as the US. And download the MoneyGram app, that way you can MoneyGram your money from your US account to your Ghana account for just a $3 fee and you have it in your account in Ghana in minutes. Hope this helps. There’re other means but i find this very convenient.

Hey! I have been in education for the last 15 years, so hey there fellow educator! We are going to be dropping videos as we work through the process so others have a guide to help them out. You can draw your benefits from abroad. From my experience, you have to deposit into an American account and then find a way to transfer or wire the money to yourself in Ghana. Some banks in the US are better set up for international banking, so you'll have to do some research to find what works best for you. Otherwise, you will be in the BEST situation (earning/drawing US dollars and using them with a super favorable exchange in the Ghana economy)! Keep watching and asking questions so we know how to best help you and others looking to move!

Akwaba my elders. First of all Africans wherever we are Africa will always be our home whether settling or visiting. I first came to 🇬🇭in 79/80, before every Saturday they were showing Tarzan as Africa is more jungle than a global continent and yes showing our babies in particular that they were starved and were full of diseases but when I first landed in Accra fearlessly and confidentially not only I didn’t see anything of that narrow minded fallacy but Africa has its ups and downs. In Accra, I couldn’t stop looking at the houses, the hotels, the markets, the clinics, the schools etc. So where’s the jungle and the famine?

Ghana is a middle income economy and before colonisation it was the 35 richest country in the world of 200 countries yep, a lot multi national companies in ghana using its resources and people but they will show you a different narrative so you don’t come and invest then they can pillage yup😌

It makes me so sad to see how the exploitation of Ghanaian people, land and resources are dispersing wealth away from Ghana and Ghanaians and into the pockets of colonialists. I hope that more people will see the value in preserving Ghana's wealth. Great insight ❤️️!

So because Africa is 3 to 4 times bigger than USA, Ghana kind of looks smaller than Florida or Texas on the map but is actually bigger than Florida or Texas

I want to say hello and it’s nice to meet you. People know right from wrong. You don’t expect people to give you money to serve them for a job you are getting paid to do. You don’t raise prices on the foreigners because they are not from your country. Police stop you and expect for you to give them money this is not right. People that have moved and left Ghana is because of this type of treatment towards them and it’s not right. People do not have put up with that type of treatment when they have a choice.

Yeah, right? Now there are gaps in understanding sometimes... like with slang words or words with double meanings. But English works in so many places!

Ghana is same size as state of Oregon.

Great reference point! We had been comparing it to Florida because people seem to have a sense of the size of that floating peninsula. I will have to start referencing Oregon when we talk! Thanks for the tip ❤️️.

There is poor places everywhere. Cleveland is like save the children poor. There are poor places in Africa and super rich areas as well especially in Nigeria
@ExpatLifeGhana4 жыл бұрын
No joke! I have seen some insane levels of poverty here in the US, which affect people of color more. I think that, in a way, it reinforces this idea that blacks are poor so a country full of black people must be a country of poverty. We must change this skewed perception! Thanks for that comment, great thinking point!
