Get your mates to take a video or pics of you riding - the obvious one is always saddle height - more recently e-bikers using boost and having their seats slammed (as they are not aware of the pedalling inefficiency). Then the guidance is measure and test on ALL touchpoints... some people are lucky and can ride bikes out of the box, but some people need a lot of fettling. 🤘- oh and once you have found a comfortable saddle - stick with it....(and buy spare for future builds).

Fit and comfort are counterintuitive: what feels nice on the turbo for 10 minutes will most likely cause big problems outdoors already past the first hour. Then, most handlebars lack sweep just like the whole setup lacks rise. Lastly, there are no perfect pedals and shoes, gotta choose your poison.

#AskGMBNTech, I’ve just started reading your mountain bike maintenance book (nicely made with good quality paper and nice photos) but have noticed some errors, who can I send these to so that they get corrected in future editions/reprints?

The best way to get the best fit for a saddle is the same way roadies do it is by measuring your seat bone width. That way you get a saddle thay matches you better instead of wasting sp much time and money just trying out different saddle without a basis and ending up with a sore butt!

Seriously we have 6 Bontrager City Comp 165mm saddles on different Emtbs and everybody that we lend a bike to comments on how comfortable the seat is without any prompting. Seem to suit a lot of different riders with different abilities. The bonus is they are relatively cheap and available. E=mtb²

Forestal suspension design is either outdated or revolutionary. Depending on who you ask...
@OwenBikeNerd13 күн бұрын
Well yes thats very true! On paper a single pivot - with a link activated shock - can still offer great suspension - it might not offer the axle path changes that twin link or 4 /6 bar systems could offer - but still it can still work great - are you fan? Cheers Owen

Tired of hearing about bike fitting as it's just not an option for allot of people. I get it, it's the best place to start if you have that option but maybe do a video that leaves that out. Maybe try doing a video about this topic for the average rider who got to figure this stuff out without the help of a professional.

Thanks for sharing and getting into the discussion Bike fitting doesn't have to the smoke mirrors and laser beams high price Roadie stuff - a bike fit can be done one with real trail feel boosting performance results with just a few simple tools and low cost - and I feel its one the best ROI upgrades! But yes noted on us doing a video about how do a bike fit - and we've already been working on one! Again thanks for joining in and the feedback Cheers Owen
@seano21816 күн бұрын
Bike fits don't need to be as detailed for roadies as for mtbers. Roadies need all of that because they are in one position longer. A basic fit for mtbers can be done since position changes so much. Really, just get a seat bone measurement for a proper saddle (so you won't be wasting time and money for a sore butt), basic Fore and Aft of the saddle, handlebar (stem length too) and cockpit placement for beginners. It's all relative and doesn't have to be expensive as an improperly fit bike will cause you physical problems and worsen if untreated. It's just as necessary as your tire psi and shock adjustment. There are videos to help as well.

Bikes are built to fit men, who are built like gorillas, with long torsos /arms and short legs. Women, with long legs and short torsos/arms, have to do some work to make their bikes fit because bike frames are made to fit men. Why bike companies don’t make the small bikes with a geometry to fit women better makes no sense to me, since it is women buying the small bikes.

Really? 'Cause I'm 5'7" 29" inseam with short arms. 🧐 Apparently I'm a gorilla?🤔

There are still brands that cater to women specific bikes. Juliana (Santa Cruz) and Liv (Giant) are the two most known. Many companies use to until around 2019-20. They just don’t sell enough to keep them as an option. I have a friend who rides a Santa Cruz small who has short arms who loves hers
