Ironically why i hate slo-motion too. Obviously if you watch the play in half speed, youd see everything perfectly. The game is not played in half speed. Decisions need to be made either before the player sees something or as an immediate reaction.

I loved this and it so needed to be said by someone respected. You mentioned the qualifiers you use while watching the tape and I think a good example of that was when you were scouting Herbert's college games. You kept saying things like "Now I don't know what they're teaching up there" and you ended up being more down overall on Herbert. But then he starts playing in the pros and it turns out even the Oregon coaches apparently didn't know what they're teaching up there. It really points out how important coaching is for these young players and why it can be so impossible to perfectly evaluate talent coming out in the draft.

Technically, "Don't Screenshot" applies anything that requires context to explain. A picture is worth a thousand words, unless those words are driving misinformation.
@phillipemery572 Жыл бұрын
I don't know about misinformation, but using a screenshot certainly makes things easier to spin the way you want them to. You can wear the mantle of providing "evidence" without telling the whole story. In this case, most screenshots I see are Madden rubes trying to prove this guy or that guy is incompetent or whatever. They've got no skin in the game beyond talking s***. I see it now and then from actual writers, but it's rare.

I feel like taking a snapshot to explain a play stems from people's tendencies to already have a predetermined conclusion they want to arrive to about a qb's performance. A snapshot of a whole play conveniently contextualizes that play and allows ppl to lean into their bias.

Thanks JT. When they first allowed instant replay on high school sidelines (about 2012), we would use iPads to take screen shots and try to send them down to the sideline by air dropping them. That would take a few minutes and of course was worthless by the time it arrived. The QB and coaches couldn't tell what was going on from a screen shot anyways so we started a video relay. We would line up 4 or 5 injured kids from the top of the stadium to the sideline, take the video, and pass the iPads down! 🤣🤣🤣 It was as ridiculous as you can imagine, and we had to use 8 iPads to get it all done. Not to mention when halftime came and a coach wanted to see a specific play! 🤣🤣OMG, life before Echo, GameStrat and Hudl sideline...

Does every QB on every play remember every route, nuance or intricacy that might happen based on all the different variables and disguise coverages and then be able to make a split second decision accurately? It seems very robotic to me and doesn't leave room for the human error element. He calls play in the huddle but does his mind envision and anticipate the play art everytime correctly?
@caseydale4731 Жыл бұрын
I mean I have lots of respect for what the experienced guys can do at QB. I played O-line in high school. Ran the same offense for 3 years. Drawing the play on the whiteboard is one thing, remembering it all is another and then to see it in person in real time on the field during a game took until my junior year to see. I remember many times that my fellow lineman asked me what he was supposed to do or who to block after we broke the huddle. 💯

@@Callsign_Spartacus_37Fox would you mind expanding how are they organized/tagged? I seem to remember in the old days they had b&w physical copies that were faxed(?) to the sideline and put in a binder - I always suspected it was to examine previous plays but couldn't really understand what kind of detail they'd be looking for and what they'd expect to learn to improve the subsequent plays.
@Callsign_Spartacus_37Fox Жыл бұрын
@@zbrr For every play run, there are multiple videos and images captured. After every play, all those videos and images are uploaded to a server. They are tagged with certain relevant info (down, distance, personnel grouping, play result, etc). Think of it like KZbin, with the description having the relevant play info In the software, and then the comments section having player and couch comments. The players can take screenshots from the videos. They can play videos in slow motion or speed it up. The software has functions to allow players to edit or add notations (symbols and text) to the images; just like what TV announcers do when they draw on the screen to describe plays to viewers. The plays are kept in order, so players can go back and look at any play run. I don’t know if it’s still enabled, but it was possible to look up previous game videos. Images can still be printed, if desired. Some other functions include game statistics and playbook viewing.

Also, its much more fun to be a fan and comment on youtube but its a whole different story to actually be part of a team and to make those decisions and live with those consequences, good and bad. In the end, JT has the knowledge and experience that probably less than 2K people on Earth have. Great videos!!

The new intro is cool and all, but in my opinion too long. One of the reasons I liked the old one was the fact it was only around 5 seconds while the new one is around 20 seconds.
