When you also pretend to be a Conservative, you can get them to reveal a LOT of how they actually feel. I do this with some of my own friends. They are usually just people who go through the same experiences we all do, but process them differently. A lot of men say they are against abortion because life begins at conception. Get them comfortable and they'll say they don't care, they are just enraged women get to sleep around with no consequences. Some even admit it outright. Lots of women too are against abortion. Usually again because of life experiences, where they set rules on themselves not to sleep around, so when they see their friends do it and get away with a couple of pregnancies with no consequences, it creates a deep hatred. It's also why we see a lot of Conservatives being gay in secret. They set the rules on themselves that it's not right, so either keep it inside, or do it in secret, and when they see others freely doing it with no consequences, that's where the hatred comes from. "No I was taught all my life they are supposed to be below everyone! Why don't they have to suffer like me??" Conservatives' issue with the trans community as well. They most likely see a trans person, and their body reacts automatically, either with disgust or lust, or a mix of the 2, and they literally don't know how to deal with it. This one is great to pretend to be a conservative with, because if you ask them for a solution and push them, they'll reveal they ultimately just want all trans people deleted. Same with a lot of Conservatives accusing people of grooming. It's always internal struggles they have to project. They don't want virgins because of some inherent purity. They want virgins because they are usually young enough to groom and brainwash. Growing up in a Conservative household, I was always taught that drugs destroy your life, marijuana, coke, meth are the same etc... So growing up avoiding a lot of it, but seeing friends do drugs and not just face no consequences, but still succeed more than me, I do understand how conservatives feel, but thankfully I broke out of Conservatism in University. Education does help, but you really do also need a lot of introspection.

What pulled me over from the "liberal" camp to the "left" camp was Legaleagle's video about all of Trump's crimes prior to the election. It was relatively short, to the point, and demonstrated the facts of Trump's crimes without commenting on his voter base all while naturally conveying the urgency of the situation. Additionally, the blasé attitude of my fellow conservative friends regarding this absolute fascist creep into our government solidified my transition. Now this is an incomplete story, because my transition fully started when COVID hit and the abysmal response to the pandemic, followed by the equally abysmal reaction to the 2020 Floyd protests. All of these were the seeds of doubt that started the push from an apolitical lib to a proper lefty. I think that if you're a politically conscious conservative (and have been for the last couple of years) you're well aware of what's going on and don't care/support it. I think the broader issue I see with people is that they're very politically conscious and aware of *their* intersectional issues (real or not) but turn a complete blind eye to everyone else's. Think TERFs, men's rights activists, or Zionists for example. If there's a good way of breaking through that and convincing people to understand, care, and support issues that aren't theirs we could have a real solid push towards the left. EDIT: clarity

And now it all finally comes back to bite us like we were talking about the whole time and now it’s republicans fault because they had to cut checks to people to keep them from starving because of what DEMOCRATS decided to do? I swear you guys never take accountability for anything and all you guys are is a giant circle jerk of people that only care about feeling good about yourselves and getting to call other people a-holes. We aren’t taking any of the blame for how you guys acted throughout Covid. Maybe if you guys stopped jerking yourselves off for how good of people you think you are then you could stop and remember what actually happened and realize that you guys were wrong just like you’re wrong about virtually everything. So don’t hit me with “anything else?”. You can’t even address this issue without kicking blame to republicans like all of you people do.

"I believe what others in my group believe, and I rather delusion myself out acknowledging the logical conclusions of those paths of thoughts, than to question the in group line and make myself an outcast of my social group". I have conservative family and I'm from a conservative community. They are incredibly hard to talk to about politics because they immediately go on the defensive if you even suggest they're being misled, sometimes violently. They're in a cult and you can't rationalize a person out of a cult. There was a quote on 30 Rock of all shows that said "Irrational people don't react to logic, they react to fear.". We need to figure out what they are individually afraid of and press those points to show that Republicans are the real source of their fears. Obviously if those things are racist or bigoted it's harder to sell because it requires significant reframing but that's the most practical approach.

I’ve tended to notice that conservatives lack the ability to care or understand anything that doesn’t directly affect them or the people in their lives. Basically they have little to no empathy for “others”. Instead they try use view all issues from a self centered point if view, aka “personal responsibility, pick yourself up by the bootstrap”, as if everyone is born with same opportunities and circumstances in life. Lastly, aside from romanticizing the past( where most of them would be nothing more serfs working for an overlord), they love simplifying complex societal problems that they end up ignoring current challenges. As a result, these challenges end blowing up in their face, which is why they tend to do substantial harm when given power.

As a conservative (usually republican voter) that enjoys Vaush vastly, I have a couple recommendations when speaking to "us". Don't talk about democracy and then immediately undermine it by describing tyranny of majority and describing a constitutional republic, then go on to describe republicans as mass murderers. Side note, I'm an atheist, so the assumption that the person on the right somehow permits manmade global warming because of God's will is far better posed if talking to that group (evangelical Christians). Same thing for the Jan 6 nonsense. That should be posed to Trump supporters. I mean, you think Dick Cheney's daughter needs to hear this? She's head of the Jan 6th committee! Appreciate the efforts here Vaush, but I think you'll have to wait a bit longer to bring the right over to worker co-ops.

Are you actually a social conservative, or do you just mean you think capitalism is good? Despite my stances, I can see some reasonable arguments in favour of capitalism in some forms, but I cannot fathom any reason why someone without faith as a cornerstone of his or her ideology would be socially conservative. Like... are you against LGBTQ stuff? I've just always been able to sort of rationalize that conservatives have the stances they do because they blindly follow ancient texts and believe in all-powerful gods who care what we do with what's between our legs. If you've (very reasonably) rejected all that, how can you possibly still hold conservative values?

@@testest12344 Vaush is awesome. He's got some great articulation for the left, plus he seems like a cool guy. I'm all for worker co-ops, particularly because many don't care for "waterfall" type hierarchy. I think so long as government incentives exist, we should use them to help grow co-ops. That said, I would want those to be localized decisions based on the region, economic situation, cost of living, etc. and not top down, eh, like "waterfall" project management. Edit: Oh, and climate change is just a matter if what impacts it will have and, again, what role the government should play. I can't say for sure what I agree with or disagree with Vaush in that regard because he seems to just be upset about those that don't think it exists and tends not to go much further. Even his reparations argument literally is structural and not handing out money from, let's say, whites to blacks, so I think there is a lot of discussion to be had there.

I appreciate this. Maybe at least one conservative listened.

If you really want to move over conservatives, you should try changing up your rhetorical strategy. Showing this video to a conservative would accomplish nothing, as is the case with most of your videos. You preach to the choir too much.

The phrase is "bald-faced lie". It means you have nothing disguising your face/lie; no facial hair, in other words. Bold-faced lie doesn't really make sense if you think about it. What is a bold face? Bold isn't an expression, it is a level of conviction. You could say "it's a bold lie" but that doesn't quite have the same connotation.

I agree with everything here, but no conservative will agree with any of it. They aren’t even operating on the same basic premises. They are in a different reality. This video would need to be 9 hours long to get the points across to someone that far gone. And they wouldn’t watch that.

Conservative here. I like listening to people like Vaush to gain perspective, though I disagree with 99% of what he says. This video however was one of the most narrow minded, one-sided, incoherent rants I've heard from him. I was ready to unsub but I appreciate everyone in the comments calling this out, that this rhetoric is not something that would be productive towards a conservative. With that I'll continue to stick around :) Happy to talk through differences with anyone on here. As a conservative I simply believe in constitutional, human rights, personal liberty, and a limited government with checks and balances. I believe strongly in the rights of every individual, and oppose any collective group who imposes on any one individual. This is typically my problem with 'democracy' and possibly where Vaush and I can find no common ground. But please don't let this dude define conservatives for you. Love you all

This video was rhetorical. He wasn’t exactly hiding his complete and total contempt for republicans like you. He doesn’t believe pawns who believe in a magic sky god can be persuaded. He even said he believes the Republican Party should be dissolved due to being accomplices to treason lol.

Democracy is nice but also weak this conservatives are this that and the other facilities that weakness Hell we all know anyone in the Democrat party don't actually care about democracy because of the amount of things that were allowed to happen but didn't care because it helped them It also doesn't help Democrats did the indefinite imprisonment without trial thing either

It is bald faced lie. Bold faced lie is considered equivalent and also correct these days.

I appreciate the effort, Vaush, but zero Republicans you wish to reach with this have the mental capacity to understand complex language. Limit your vocabulary to elementary school level and you might get somewhere.

I don't think even speaking at elementary school level cuts through most Republicans brains as they've been brainwashed by fundamentalists since they were in diapers.
