Don & The Goodtimes You Were Just A Child Stereo Remaster 2024

Don & The Goodtimes! These guys were really a popular dance band originating in Portland, I believe. In my Bands Of The Pacific Northwest you can hear their stomping instrumental Turn On. To go from that fairly primeval riff rock to the sophitication of You Were Just A Child with it’s smooth, satiny vocals and great harmony back up vocals is quite the leap. Sadly, this was only a mild regional hit. Nationally, there was a lot of competition that just was much better and that’s really the reality of maybe the entire cast of 60’s Pacific Northwest bands with the notable exception of Paul Revere & The Raiders.
You Were Just A Child was released in Sept 1966. I edited out as much of the cringe worthy intro as I could and tampered with everything else.

Here on Turn On they are still in the primal mode of the early 60's Pacific Northwest rock ideology but feature a cool horn section on this track. They would soon change to meet the demands of post Beatle invasion which changed the entire musical landscape for these bands. Leader and keyboardist, Don Gallucci (originally from The Kingsmen), would go on to produce The Stooges of all things.

one of my favorite bands from my youth, saw them at various teen dances around Seattle. Keyboardist Don Galucci was an original member of Portland's Kingsmen, but couldn't go on the tour with them cuz still in school. Don and The Goodtimes version of Jolly Green Giant is a not so tongue in cheek dig at The Kingsmen. Original lead guitar was Jim "Harpo" Valley before he joined Paul Revere and The Raiders
