An amazing live performance of a memory-jarring favorite from 1966, then a chat with Dave.

Why not? Easy to play, you can relax and have fun. It's not the Brandenburg Concerto. 🙂

A 30 year old song and it sounds as good now as the first time I heard it as a 9 year old in '66. Or better

Those backup vocals (especially during the verses) by the two women absolutely knock me out!

The backup singers are total fly. Those girls have polished, peerless control, variety of movement and spontaneous adjustment to the teensiest, weensiest changes in sound.

@@jogman262 Yes, but the genius of it is that the bridge modulates from key of E to key of A, but still uses the same three chords.

If I were one of the guitarists that night, I would never forget playing alongside Neil Diamond and "Cherry Cherry."

I seriously believe that John Mellencamp was emmencely nspired by this song when he wrote ROCK in the USA in the mid 80s. The rhythm, the tempo and especially the guitar playing is virtually identical.

Same thing with many other bands. Most all had hits with them.

Yeah that chord progression has been thoroughly milked out. Another example is the Romantics That's What I Like About You.
