As a kid I never knew who Charles Grodin was and LOVED every time he was on the show. I love that someone can keep in character like this and make it hilarious every time.

He was brilliant! Watch him in movies too (with Robert DeNiro and Warren Beatty (Heaven can wait)

@@utubeDaveutube seen both, midnight run was one of my favourites...I find he didn't get as much work as he should have because I found his deadpan sarcasm hilarious.

I love these really early shows. Can't get enough. When they all really tried.

I love the early shows. I’d stay up later just to watch. It was like an irreverent alternative to Carson, definitely fashioned for the younger college crowd. So clever and hip. Great comedy, interesting guests and outstanding music. It had such a cool New York vibe to it. By the time Dave got to CBS, I’m afraid his show was almost unwatchable! Totally different.

When Mr. Grodin was the guest on any late night show you knew you were in for a very interesting evening of television.

Only catching upon Grodin now at 40+ years old. The guy has incredible timing. A joy to watch, and hilarious to boot. Where are all the good comedians (Paul Foot excluded)?

There was some Don Rickle’s DNA in Charles Groden, don’t you think? Don’t know if they ever appeared together, but the interchange would have been a blast on the TV Talk Show guest couch!

How did he ever come up with this as an act. Godin is hilarious.
@disphoto3 жыл бұрын
He started it on Carson's Tonight Show which is why they had the opening about being "friendly." He did this banter with Carson for many years before going on Letterman. He was mild on this first show compared to Carson. His act was so popular on Carson that they booked him during sweep (rating taking) weeks. He is obviously wicked smart as a successful writer, director, and actor.
