This sounds more like a mid-80s production with mid-80s drum machine and the famous 808 cowbell sound. (I know it was actually 1988 or 1989). The re-mix is more like a late 80s/early 90s production with more of a dance/rave/R&B style drums and percussion.

Donna Allen (my homegirl from Tampa). I remember when she was a teenager...could dance & sing her butt off. I remember when she and I can't remember his name won the local dance contest to go represent Tampa in the Soul Train national dance contest. She also was lead singer in a local band....I'll never forget hearing her rendition of "Love Won't Let Me Wait". Donna was also a Tampa Bay Buccaneer cheerleader.

I love this version way more than Maze's version. This should have been a huge hit. Donna could have been a big star in the 80's but lousy management and labels that didnt bother to promote her kept her from getting the recognition she deserved.

Fabulous effort taking on such an iconic song. I missed Donna Allen first time around but there are elements of Patti Label in her voice which is nice and soulful. The addition of the sax makes for the only improvement on the original musicianship. Nice to bathe in Frankie's lyrics once more.
