So sad that Donna never got the credit she deserved for her amazing voice. One of the greatest singers of all time. She had the natural talent and a skill that no other singer had, Donna could sing any type of music anywhere at anytime and acapella. She won Grammy awards from Rock to Dance. Aretha, Barbra, Patti LaBelle and so many said Donna had one of the greatest voices and they also said she was the most underrated singer in pop music history. Donna Summer's name should be mentioned in every conversation about great female singers. Flawless. Pitch perfect. Never a misfire. And the power! She made it all look effortless. Donna one of the most powerful, and beautiful singers that ever graced us.

Aretha ...?? Hilarious...Aretha would have never said any such thing. It was like pulling teeth to get her to say anything complimentary about any other female artists vocals.
@JimmieJamOfTheDay2 жыл бұрын
In a video somewhere on KZbin, Aretha said Donna was a good singer. Probably, after Donna's passing. If she said Donna was one of the greatest singers, I'd love to see a video of that. Or, read an article reflecting that. Nonetheless, Donna was one of the greatest singers, regardless if Aretha ever said it.

@@JimmieJamOfTheDay Like pulling teeth, (the Larry King Show)/ Piers Morgan (of course took it over,) Piers had her on the phone after Donna passed. He asked the first question and Aretha answered that she was gracious and beautifully gowned. Then he asked how she ranked as singer and she answered a very good singer. Patti is the only one who said she was under rated. Dolly said she was one of our greatest voices. Beyonce said she was pitch perfect with flawless vocals. Aretha would never offer up praise for any female vocalist.

Exquisite vocals by the incomparable Donna Summer. She was so much more than disco and here is yet one example among many of her treasures found all over KZbin. I’d like to see the manufactured divas of today take on this song, just so we can all clearly see who the real diva really was. Rest in peace Donna ❤

Donna was one of a few female vocalists who became a part of the soundtrack of my life. Such a powerful instrument she had until she was made an angel. Saw her only once in concert, and she knocked us all out. Thank you Dereck, in hopes to bring Donna new fans, and keeping the music alive...RIP Donna...

OH, I have seen Miss Donna Summer so many times live, she is so famous for her range and so many styles of music genres. She will always be my number one artist all time. I miss her so so much as her songs helped me during some horrible patches in my life. Donna, IT WILL ALWAYS BE MUSIC THERE!

This was a VH1 concert from 1999. Donna was asked to come in and discuss being in the Diva 2 concert, after discussions, VH1 decided that they should do Donna on her own, thus VH1 presents Donna Summer Live and More Encore. The single released from the album was I Will Go With You (Con Te Patiro). There was a lead up to the song, which you didn't get to see in this video, where she explains the song was written for the broadway production Ordinary Girl (about her life story). The other song from Ordinary Girl she performed in this concert was "(This is) My Life" or My Life. But if you do get the chance, react to Donna singing 'Riding Through The Storm" from this concert (a Yolanda Adams song).

Even though I know this song was originally included in a musical she had written, for me, it will always be her good-bye song to her fans and audiences. It tears me up every time I hear her sing it. I mean, she is saying... "If there is music there, I'll have to go. Heaven has an extraordinary plan, a reason for my soul. But my greatest fear is that I'm losing you, my dear (us, her fans). I'm so sorry. I've always loved you. I do love you. But I just have to go." This is what the song is saying to me when I hear her sing it. 🎵🎶💔

Possibly, only her hardcore fans knew she had a voice like this. And, those in the music industry. All of her albums reflected her versatile voice. All of her albums had more than just dance songs on them.

This was from a 1999 VH1 Concert Special.....Donna Summer, Live and More, Encore!! To commemorate her iconic live album of 1978. She premiered some songs, including this one, that she wrote and intended to be made into a musical about her life called "Ordinary Girl" , the title of her Autobiography. She continued performing through 2012, the year in which she died, and still sounded fantastic even with stage 4 lung cancer. She sounded better very ill than most of today's singers sound young and well. She was amazing. She could sing anything.

Donna tells of her vocal regimen after Oprah Winfrey asks her, " What do you do, to keep your voice in the shape it's STILL in after all these years, it still sounds so great?" Donna replied, it's a gift, a gift from GOD and all I can do to keep it the way it was meant to be, is not smoking, don't drink ( alcohol) get plenty of rest and just remembering that it is a gift from GOD and not to be taken lightly. Good for her. I was numb when I read that she passed, but she was truly a private living person as was her husband ( Bruce Sudano ) and her 3 daughters and grandchildren.

I had always interpreted this as being drawn to a higher purpose or calling, regardless of what it may mean to your current station, or people, in life. Didn’t make the connection this could be about her first marriage, but I was in the ballpark, lol. She was an exceptional singer, songwriter, and above all, person.

This is from the Musical Donna wrote about her own life called "Ordinary Girl"! She is telling her first husband that she cant stay in the marriage and give up her career, her dream of singing!! I so wish this would have made it to Broadway instead of the jukebox musical that copied the Mama Mia style. Donna wrote amazing songs for Ordinary Girl and chose to share 3 of them in this 1999 VH1 Concert Special. The other 2 are "Nobody", and "This is My Life" and are amazing as well. If you want to be blown away, watch this entire concert where Donna absolutely blows the doors off the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. I was lucky enough to see her in Concert 8 times but this is the Concert I wish i had been able to see!! She was amazing. R.I.P

Listen to her live rendition of "Mcarthur Park" from 1978 compared to this song over 20 years later. It's obvious that Donna's voice was brilliant on both, but I feel she gained more richness and tone in her voice - plus the added years of experience singing live helped her maximize her technique

When you went to see Donna sing live in Concert, it was literally as if she was lip syncing because she, her band and background singers were so on point. Of course, she wasn't lip syncing any part of the concerts, thankfully she chose venues that could handle the power of the strength of her vocal projection. I wanted to Marry her back in the day.
