I connect the the new Donner Circle Looper to my signal chain and give it the ol' one-two. This is a cool little pedal that, while not perfect, certainly combines a lot of cool features into one compact stomp box. Hope this video is helpful, I'd love to hear from you below; subscribe for future reviews. Cheers.

Helpful, clear review. Just got one of these to replace the Ditto which I love, but I can't store multiple tracks. It's great to record a bunch of loops and jam over them. And having drums was the key component to this purchase. This is a fun, simple pedal that makes guitar playing very enjoyable. Shop around for price. I bought it for under $80 if recall correctly. Hours of guitar fun here, folks! 😎

WOW I literally had to check if I wrote this cause my story is the same. Except my other looper is a Boss RC-1. Doesn't store. So far I haven't stored anything for more than a day or 2. And really just like jamming to a drum beat. Also in 1 of my worship bands the leader would give me a BPM and tempo so when we practiced I would be on beat cause of practice by myself. I could of set up 1 of my keyboards to do this but a lot of work for a half an hour practice. All that for $85 used. Great pedal.

Nice review. I’ve had a couple of loopers but this one directly fixes a couple of issues I’ve had with those other brands. The two separate tap buttons on the bottom of this unit are great as well as the ability to record the drums along with the loops. Common sense design to lessen the learning curve so more time and effort are spent on creation 👍🏻

thebaddie cool! Hope you like it. I’ve got a Boss RC-3 looper, and a Beat Buddy Mini 2, and I’m honestly considering this pedal to replace both those. I think the audio export quality is a bit lower than the RC-3 though unfortunately. As for the software, you’re supposed to be able to find it on the product page, under the “introduction” section (www.donnerdeal.com/products/donner-circle-looper-guitar-effect-pedal-with-time-progress-bar-display-drum-machine?_pos=1&_sid=4a0e3886d&_ss=r) but the link is broken. I had to email their support team and they sent me a Dropbox link with the software for my Mac. The software isn’t anything special, but it will allow you to export your loops, or import a loop to use as a backing track on the pedal.

I've just sold my Trio Plus and have ordered a Donner Circle. The Trio may be good for song composition, but for day to day practice it is frustrating. You can't simply select a drum pattern and play along with it, which is what I like to do. First of all you have to play in a rhythm guitar part (without playing along to a drum track). Next the Trio chooses a random drum and bass accompaniment in its wisdom and creates a basic loop (without your guitar playing). Then you have to play in your guitar part all over again, if you can still remember how it went. It's very clever, but it's not what I wanted.
@natesgearguide4641

@@rhferg thanks for your perspective! Do you have the one with the looper built in? I was close to pulling the trigger on a used one with the looper as well, but never did. I could see where the Trio’s whole premise might be limiting to some folks. If you’re still shopping, I can’t recommend the Boss RC-5 enough. At the time of this Donner video, the RC-5 hadn’t come out and it is everything the Circle Looper is and much much more. It’s also twice the price ($200). Definitely worth it in my mind - I have an intro/unboxing about the RC-5 too

@@natesgearguide4641 Yes, I had the one with the looper built in. As a straight looper, without drums, it's fine, but that's not what you are buying it for. The RC 5 looks amazing. I will probably end up getting it!

as for the inordinately loud volume of Rhythm, one way to make it really usable is to split the signal via a stereo pedal send one split into looper, then into a volume control pedal that does not change the tone at all, like a potentiometer pedal, and then either into another stereo pedal to merge with the other signal into the same amp Not ideal, but it worked I still opted to return and seek something more usable

YES!!! Circle Looper's beats per minute sync "close enough" so we can easily hit the looper button and the loop "quantizes" or stops on the bar, or close enough it does NOT hiccup and get further off with each loop cycle (on some Beat Buddy beats ONLY, because Beat Buddy beats get recorded with human drummers, so they too are not as accurate as digital. Who cares? Record the Beat Buddy into the loop! TAKE NOTES OF CIRCLE LOOPER DRUM AND TEMPO for your loops, in case you need to recreate, or move slots. Seems circle looper's software handles the metadat about its beats and tempo, so write things down to edit .WAV loops in Audacity for loundess, EQ, etc. and import new WAV files into the clooper. Circke Looper uses 24 bit, and Boss RC-3 uses 16 bit, so pay attention when you edit/export/save/create the file in Audacity, for example. I love my Circle Looper! I did cover the looper button with a cap to avoid mistakenly hitting it during a step to Stop, which avoids going into Record mode and polluting your backup loop.

Thanks my man! It’s a fun looper for sure - I will say, I’m a huge fan of the Boss loopers and had the RC-3 before snagging the RC-5 recently (review coming soon). The Circle Looper features for the price are unmatched - but the Boss pedals will definitely last longer, feel more durable and are just more solid overall. The circle looper does have an advantage over the RC-5 or RC-3 in that rhythms you save to memory with your loops will export with the loops to your computer. The boss ones will only export your loops without rhythm to computer (drives me crazy!)

Hi Joey! Good question, I did not use an effects loop, just simple chain guitar->effects->amp and it worked great. Can’t really comment on the issue you’re facing. It’s a bit more money of course, but I find the Boss RC-5 to be a much better option and came out after I published this video on the Donner. Boss and other more established producers probably have more consistency across varied usages (I.e. effects loop etc).

@natedeppermann7142
@natedeppermann7142 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Brian - I didn’t have that issue on my product, do you have the looper after the drive pedal? If your drive is coming from the amp itself, that could also be the reason. @natesgearguide4641
@natesgearguide4641 3 жыл бұрын
@@brianmccarthy8734 yeah that’s why your rhythm is getting the grit. If you want to use the looper/gain or overdrive without the drive applying to everything, you need to get an overdrive pedal to put in front of your looper in the signal chain (Boss’s OD pedals are great and very affordable). Best of luck!
@rhferg
@rhferg 3 жыл бұрын
The ideal is to have an amp with an effects loop and put the looper in that. You can then use as much amp gain as you like on your guitar and the rhythm output from the looper will not be affected. I have a Marshall valve amp which produces beautiful overdrive, so I don't need/want to put a pedal in front of it.

Hello there - I don’t think you can adjust speed of loop and the rhythm follow it. Picture it as like a separate drum machine that gets recorded along with the loop (do rhythm does save with the loop, which is handy). Not a lot of customization after recording. Dial it in as you want it, then build off that rhythm/base.

I wanted to try the boss 500 or the 600 for the 32 bit and usb interface, but they are both WAY , WAY too complex and tedious, for my taste. I many give this and/or the Flamma FS21 a try.

Hello! Thanks for the question - yes you can do unlimited “overdubs.” What I often do in my lopping is save the base groove track (rhythm and first guitar layer), then save it again in another save slot to give me more flexibility in trying new overdubs. Hope that helps - if you found the video helpful, like it please and subscribe for more videos!

Man, please help. I need looper that can import Mp3 or wav files(backing tracks). Let's say 40 songs, and I can jam over. In essence I need Mp3 player and looper in one unit .Money is not an issue but size is. No bigger than Boss RC-5. I am trying not to have Mp3 player and a looper on my pedalboard. It must be stereo .Thanks for any help.

Dang that’s no good - no I haven’t had any issues with it yet - if you mail their support, I think they’re pretty good about finding a way to to help. On a different product I had an issue with a toggle switch, and they sent me a new one. I think I said it in my review, that I didn’t have a ton of confidence in the longevity of the pedal, specifically the dial/selector knobs - mine were super wobbly. My foot switches were okay though.

@@natedeppermann7142 Hey, thx for the info :) is it possible with the circle looper to get your own drum tracks inside it? like record it with a drum computer or some drum mp3, so you can have reggae rhythms inside and if it does do they stay inside even when plugged out ?

I bought this, and am having 2nd thoughts 1st problem, the volume of the rhythms are so much. Even at the lower setting of 1, it is loud an unusable -- too loud -- with a loud tube amp, its drum patterns are unusable unless you want to go deaf. 2nd issue:there seems to ve no way to save the rhythm drum with the loop. If I dub a chord on a drum in one loop and go to another drum setting in a different loop, and then go back to previous loop, all I hear is my chord and not the drums. If I want the drums, I must remember what pattern and what BPM I used I am thinking of sending it back

Thanks for the comment - it's definitely got it's quirks. As to the first problem - I found that to be true as well - I found it was good at level 1, and passable at level 2. Not sure if they designed/programmed it to be able to play louder for live use (which I would never do with this). it should have been programmed to be for home use/level. To be fair, I've found the same with the Boss RC-5, which I picked up last year. At level 100 (default rhythm level setting), the rhythm almost blows out my Fender solid state amp when I set it to normal levels of typical use - I have to dial it back to between 30-40. I think it's definitely a downside to this pedal. On your second point, do you have the middle button under the display (MERGE) engaged? Should be green if so - that enables both to be both played and saved together (see above at about 10:00). I did not have the same issue - when I saved a recorded loop (while rhythm was playing), I was able to recall with the beat as well as export the audio file with both the loop and the rhythm. I gave away my Circle Looper to a friend when I picked up the Boss RC-5 which (for twice the price) has a lot more polished set of features, so I can't pull up again to test and walk you through. But keep messing around with it!

@@natesgearguide4641 thanks for this but the Rhythms are not saved. yest as long as the middle button is engaged, and the rhythms patter has not changed, it will play, but if just leave it and go do other things with other rhythms and loops, when you go back, you will only hear your guitar played and not the rhythm you had. The extrutiating loud volume of the rhythm is a bigger problem, I returned mine -- good riddance! but, again, thanks for doing this. it has potentials, but falls a few steps short of being good enough for 100+ dollars

On the tempo issue, you need to switch to another loop memory, preferably an empty one, before you try out different rhythm patterns and tempos. Otherwise the current loop memory will be updated with the new rhythm pattern and tempo, which will no longer sync with the loop you have recorded. It's not a glitch. It's just how it works.

Not a fan of tap tempo, but I see it has tempo-select which is great. No usb? Thanks for not doing a 30 min solo, you showed most of the application features, what I needed to see. I'm looking at this and the Flamma fs21, but so far no one wants to show us in how to use it, they're all doing 30 min solos instead lol.

Loopers' MAIN PROBLEM = staying synced to a beat. This quantizes to the measure of its internal drummer, BUT WILL IT STAY "SYNCED" to an external drum (BeatBuddy) set to the same bpm? This would fix the obvious problem of mixing drums and guitar together (or add a bass with drum!)
