I bought a 144hz monitor after having 60hz for so long. At first, I didn't notice a difference. In fact, i was going to return it (I'm a cheapskate at heart) then I switched back to my 60hz monitor, and it literally felt like someone had snuck inside of my computer and replaced all of my high end components with like a pentium 3. The veil was lifted almost immediately just how shitty 60 felt.

I had a monitor 60hz with low latencies that kicked the bucket, then went back to my 1080p60 tele I could feel the trail behind my mouse movements so fkn bad, then after 10 sec my brain adapted to it. It's actually a really good comparison (well not for those who don't understand your own eyes adaptability). I have a 144hz monitor and a 60hz monitor, my gf used the 60hz until 7 months ago I let her have the 144hz and I took the 60hz. In the same way it's hard for some ppl to stop smoking and it's hard to switch from years of 144hz to 60hz but at some point your eyes starts to adapt to the new refresh rate it might take weeks to months to a year and no it won't work if you are using both 60 and 144 and also a 60hz monitor is optimized for 60hz and a 144hz monitor is optimized for 144hz, obviously lowering your refresh rate down to 60hz on a 144hz monitor is going to look bad, even way worse than a monitor optimized for 60hz at least in games. This is what I learned after 7 months but also this is my own experience so I can't say that it will be the same for you, because we are all different and eyes adaptability and sensitivity is different for everyone (except for those "scientists" who claims that there isn't any differences between a person who need to use glasses and a person who doesn't need to use glasses. Yes there is also different types of scientists..)

@@angrydwarf4224 Yeah. LCD still isn't and probably never will be quite as good as the best CRT had to offer. CRT's only problem is being too heavy to easily move around when you need to. AMOLED is great on stuff you can get it on, and microLED is promising, both of these technologies are actually finally back to CRT levels of good at being a monitor while having all the modern convenience of lower power and less weight. As long as you can get it with at least 120hz refresh like the LG AMOLED smart TV's.

I've been preaching about this very thing for years... I remember when I used to have a 60hz monitor and thought to myself things can't get any better. I remember it being oh so smooth. Later on I decided to get a 144hz monitor and when first using it I honestly saw a difference BUT it wasn't the crazy difference I had expected. Maybe a year passes and I'm used to everything being 100+ FPS but now some games are coming out where I struggle to keep 70+ FPS.... If ANYTHING I'm playing goes below 80fps it looks absolutely horrible to the point where it's unplayable for me. I've tried many times locking to 60fps just to see what it looks like and I don't know what the fuck happened but now 60fps looks like what I remembered 30fps to look like. It looks so choppy and blurry... Stuttery..... Just everything looks so awful. I truly do wish I never went to a 144hz monitor because it's completely ruined my entire gaming experience. If I start any new game and can't keep a consistent 100+ FPS then I neurologically bounce back and forth from graphical settings back to gameplay over and over and over until I can get the best look possible while maintaining 100+ FPS. Even if I get a satisfactory load out I'm still in the back of my mind the entire time wondering how I could get just a few more frames out of the game without compromising looks. Back before I got a 144hz monitor this was NEVER EVER an issue.... I was able to sit down and fully enjoy whatever game I was playing. For someone that doesn't know what I'm talking about probably thinks I'm being extremely petty / picky but it's made me so neurotic that it's sucked so much fun out of pc gaming for me.

@@markambrus4614 The difference between 60 and 75 feels almost as drastic as the switch from 30 to 60. The switch from 75 to a 100 or 144 Hertz is just a marginal step up in comparison. I'd go higher resolution all the way (until your dropping below 75 or even 60 fps). Depends on the purpose also.. for single player casual stuff 75-100 Hz and High Quality >> 144 Hz, for competitive gaming it's the other way round.

I've been using 144hz monitors for nearly ten years now and I can CONFIRM first hand that my life is significantly worse now. I've been through several divorces, I'm generally a bit less healthy overall and many pets have either gotten sick at some point or died (I lost a dog in 2014 due to old age). There are MANY other bad things that have occurred since purchasing my first 144hz but I'll spare you the horrific details as I just want to use this time to WARN EVERYONE of the many dangers of a high refresh rate. Allan Waterhouse agree there. I Prefer 1440p resolution and ultra settings at 75Hz. Getting a high refresh rate >75Hz for high res and max graphics is just unachievable unless you spend $$$ on a high range GPU *and* a powerful CPU that can keep up *and* a fancy monitor. Power to people that go all out on that stuff but it doesn’t seem that worthwhile just for a desktop icon to pan a little nicer? If you want the competitive FPS genre just go 1080P 144Hz instead if that is so important...

@@tim9241 I got lucky have ex display auction\customer returns near me picked up am Asus mg278Q and a Phillips 22E9Q 75hz ips (For my daughter) both for £150. The Asus monitor came up with a line on screen a few weeks after an asus swapped it didn't even ask for an invoice just manufacturer date. Look around bargain do pop up. John Pye was where I got it.

I got 3 AOC 32" 75Hz 1440p IPS Freesync monitors. They cost only about 600€ for all three of them. For me 75Hz/1440p is perfect as I like to play with graphics setting maxed out. I have a custom loop water cooling with i5-6600k@4.7GHz and Radeon VII.

Well jaggies will go away more but that's about it. 4K is really all you need; though if you don't want to notice jagged edges 8K makes them go completely away. When 8K takes off nothing will follow. There is absolutely no point of going any further.

8k is for 65 and up TV cause 4k can not really fill up those sizes well. That's why most 8k TV start at 65 inches.

At the point you can run an 8k display, you will be able to pump out 4k 240hz. Much like 4k 60hz vs 1440p 144hz, the resolution trade puts them at equivalent levels of required performance.

@@wengyoonleong894 Samsung CHG70, it's a VA panel but pretty decent. It meets the HDR600 spec, so nothing like an LG OLED, but still much better than HDR400. It's very noticeable when HDR is on and functioning. FreeSync 2.0 is nice too. I'm pretty happy with it overall, and damn... that high refresh...

You won't like 60 hz again because 144 hz monitors have much higher refresh rate of frames and your eyes don't need to "smooth" the image out so that you don't feel these short black screen gaps between every frame. While at 60 hz monitors those gaps are a lot bigger (because of less frames per second), so your eye gets tired immediately. So it basically gets used to what is easier to look at, and looking at 60 hz monitor after using a 144 hz monitor can be painful for your eyes.

so true, after experiencing 144hz I will never go back to 60hz, this is why im staying faaar away from those sweet 1440p 144hz screens. granted I play mostly competitive games so frames are more prioritised over graphic quality. ONLY GO TO 144hz IF YOUR PC IS BOTTLENECKING AND YOU HAVE THE PERFORMANCE TO SUPPORT IT! If you ever go to 144hz I recommend staying on 1080p, your hardware will stay relevant for longer.

I agree 100%! I tried everything to make 60hz look smooth again. I set my panel back to 60hz and set the limit in some games to 15 fps. Even after 20-30 minute periods of intolerable 15 fps or hours of 30 fps, 60 still looked like trash after. I am never going to switch my settings back to 144hz if i can resist the temptation.

I don't think people get his point, in order to have a 144hz monitor you need to maintain 144 fps in games, and in new games with a medium and even some high-end computers that can be difficult which might force you to play at lower fps which automatically ruins your experience where as when you would be on 60hz you would never have problems like that.

Ambient occlusion is one that doesn't need to be on high, but can impact performance significantly. I also usually turn down all the 'eye-candy' post processing stuff that often adds nothing to the experience or only serves to reduce image clarity, like 'bloom' effects and chromatic aberration, but they don't always impact performance much

Very Late to this video but I have a 144hz monitor and i got way to used to it to the point of 60fps looking choppy as all hell, but I found a sort of brain reset, In Rivatuner I set the fps limit to 25 (I know but trust me) then play games at this fps for about 30 minutes or until you get used to it, then set it to 30, then 60fps. This will help make 60fps look good again

As I've gotten older I expect more color accuracy and resolution over refresh rate. Most high refresh monitors have the worst color accuracy I have ever seen. The ones even mildly good are about a grand. It's a shame that most cheap IPS panels stomp on visual quality of expensive gaming panels.
