Hey thanks for sharing. I’m also interested in growing peaches in pot. But I’m thinking what rootstock are you using for growing in pots? And what diameter pots are you using? Since it’s a proper tree, I expect it might have to be huge pots? Thank you.

You're lucky, I'm in zone 9B, central California also and last year we had terrible peach leaf curl on our donut peach tree, so did several orchards around me but what was really gross were the earwigs that invaded the fruit. My tree is a semi dwarf but very vigorous also and the fruit, it's ambrosia. So delicious. I did the copper spray as indicated on leaf drop and am looking at using a used tuna can with some oil to set at the bottom of tree which is supposed to attract and trap the earwigs. I'm hoping for success on these two solutions.
@ZaatarGardens
@ZaatarGardens 4 жыл бұрын
The absolute best solution that I found out (by accident) with deter earwigs is spreading around used coffee grounds. I get pounds and pounds of it for free from coffee shops, I use it for fertilizer and the earthworms go crazy for it. As for peach leaf curl, over the past 7 years in this garden I have only had around 10 leaves that had peach curl, I foliage spray 2x month with seaweed and fish emulsion. I also think that having a very thick layer of wood chips helped create a very healthy soil that in turn gave my plants a great amount of immunity boost.

really happy to see this video ! Unfortunally in my country there is not as much peaches varieties.Most of the popular that you can find is like only ONE hahahah they call it ''National Peach'' but I think they might be other kinds of varities out there in fruit tree farms that are testing and trying to hybrid new variieties or something.There is alot of limitations regrarding organic farms and permaculture here in my country, soo most of fruit trees and fruits in general ( especially temperate climate fruits )are for industries and they do even use pesticide ALOT of it,but not as many for housekeeping plants.Unfortunally I think I cant have this variety ! But I am glad I 've known through your channel ! Thank you soo much !

@@ZaatarGardens Yes,It is. Unfortunally most farmers are NOT INTO permaculture, they most of the times expose their ground and they mostly do not have any idea why peaches wont grow in their ground, because of this peaches are mostly popular only in cold regions here. : ( But I am sure if they would exchange to permaculture and organic gardening any peach would grow, especially if they are in a colder south region. For us the closer to the South and up in the mountains the Colder it gets.

I live in the “Bread Basket” of the world. Millions AND Millions of fruit, nut trees and other edibles. I am telling you right now if the government said that we will subsidize the farmers to convert to permaculture methods, farmers would do it in a second! Because it’s free. If they have to pay one cent to transform into permaculture they won’t do it. I may make a short video about this soon.....

The 4-1 I have the Babcock white peach started dying (years ago) so I had to re-graft it back in thankfully it took. I believe it is five years in ground maybe 4 1/2. Maintaining a cocktail tree is very difficult I prune it at least three times a year and the donut Peach 5 to 6 times a year if not there is no way to control it size especially if you’re growing the soil Regeneratively

You can grow anything from seed the unfortunate part is it will not mimic what its parent was so it’s going to be some different type of peach tree, etc.

what if I keep it potted
@ZaatarGardens
@ZaatarGardens Жыл бұрын
There’s no issue putting a fruit tree or any tree in pots the problem will be that more and more water is needed because less soil is in the pot and the roots keep circling around and around and could girdle itself and kill itself the only way to cure that is take out the tree from the pot and remove the bottom third of the roots and then refill with soil.
