I don't know why they didn't just build the bottom end/ valve train. Would have been a huge difference for a fraction of all those bolt ons. You would also learn alot more cause let's be honest most of us don't learn anything on these episodes just fun too watch. Idk built engine less chance to blow it up from aftermarket parts.
@snakeballs89654 жыл бұрын
@@clutchbleach2057 probably because building valve train or the bottom end is easily 2x as expensive as what they've done. Sure you could buy a set of forged pistons and rods, but to do it right you get them weighed and balanced with your crankshaft and it's gonna be expensive. That's not even considering the very likely probability the cylinders have ovaled a bit and new piston rings won't set properly so it needs a fresh machining. Not to mention a stand alone ecu will be needed if anything is substantially changed in there. On top of all that, the previous mods will only improve the gains of eventual bottom end and valve train work. The only thing I think they NEED to do is add more gap to the piston rings, than they could probably run 10-14 psi and make 250 whp and run it forever. Idk what the rods in these miatas look like, but I bet most turbo failures on these engines are cracked ringlands.
@jot86864 жыл бұрын
@@snakeballs8965 Building the bottom is very expensive, but also unnecessary. The motor in the NA/NB Miata was originally turbo'd in a different car, so it's already built out to be turbo'd. NA/NB Miatas do 250whp on stock internals all day long, no need to touch the rings or anything else.
@snakeballs89654 жыл бұрын
@@jot8686 I would still adjust the ring gap. Especially for a daily driver, rings butting will grenade any engine. And the stock ring gap on these cars will butt in long driving, I saw it's .006-.012 and that is fine for naturally aspirated but anymore than 10psi (provided that 10psi is actually doing anything) and thats time bomb territory. Some people run junkyard ls's on 14 psi all day so whatever I guess lol

For anyone who messes with cars at home, if you have high pressure fuel lines (usually GDI engines) you can't just pop them off like Zach does in the video. His lines where anywhere from 28-50 lbs of pressure. High Pressure lines can be up to 2200lb+ on some cars and the stream of fuel out of those at that rate can laser through your fingers. The thing about each power mod, its multiplied by other power mods. If Intake manifold gives you 8% power increase... then say you add a header that gives you another 8%. But put together they will be more than 16%. Because each power mod is made more efficient by the others. Its like getting a catback without a header. The catback cant flow maximum because the stock header restricts it. Likewise a header cant flow maximum if a stock exhaust restricts it. They both make each other more efficient when combined, giving each part a higher individual power output. if i put the same intake on my car, which already has an exhaust system on it, i may see higher than 8% increase, because he can only get so much air in the combustion chamber when he cannot clear that air as fast via exhaust flow. Personally i think for that reason exhaust should come before intake, so you maximize the flow of spent gases before you maximize the flow of incoming gases... in my mind you would cause inefficient burning of fuel, restricting power and gas mileage, and fouling spark plugs over time

An 8% gain in power is actually very good when you think about it. Other than doing head work, increasing compression, or forced induction, no other mod would give you that.
@presinald Жыл бұрын
He already has a Megasquirt in it so I assume it's been tuned or tunes itself enough to actually be receptive to these mods, hence how he was able to just ditch his MAF sensor without much explanation. On a stock ECU it's a toss up whether you gain anything or not, 8% would be a miracle.
