5:28 A small correction for diameter 65mm the cross sectional area= π × r² = π × (32.5 mm)² ≈ 3318 mm² for diameter 60mm the cross sectional area = π × r² = π × (30 mm)² ≈ 2827.4 mm² since there are 4 of them = 2827.4 mm² × 4 = 11309.6 mm² so the effective diameter will be = 2 × √(A / π) = 2 × √(11309.6 / π) ≈ 120mm. All that math to still be wrong. The cylinder intake openings and flow rate are all that matter here. The cylinder head openings were not ported so that never actually changed. This manifold will flow a higher CFM though but that can’t be expressed by the diameter of any openings. So it’s all moot. Edit to say the math is right, but it doesn’t matter and should never have been a topic in the first place

Im obsessed with watching these restoration videos of my all time favorite gen civic. However...my mom and dad bought a 1998 2wd suburban ordered by them from the factory when i was 9. We called it the War Wagon. In 2012 my mother gave it to her father, who passed away in 2022. And my grandmother gave it to me. On one of its first trips with my family of five (while my then 11 year old dogged on its lack of features lol) the front passenger brake locked up. I was on a 55 mph road but managed to keep it steady, pulling over and realizing it now needed a full brake system restoration...for just under 1000 dollars. The engine is tired, 219000. Trannys wierd...but i have to get it running...been sitting for a year for lack of funds. Its heartbreaking and i wish i could have it restored by people like you, the love of cars you have, and the care you put into this restoration of the civic...gives me hope ill get this family heirloom vehicle running and passed on to my ungrateful son one day...keep doing awesome guys

Might not sound like a lot but you wouldn't compare 65mm throttle to 240mm of hole ... surface area of a circle is based on radius squared. So its 65 compared to 4x60. The square area of a 240mm hole is 45,216sq mm and 4x60 holes = 11,304sq mm quite the difference :) crazy how much more area is in a circle as it grows in diameter! You could think of it more similarly to valves as 4 valves in a cylinder there is lots of contents around the valves, but the valves almost fill the cylinder diameter! Keep up the fun work guys!!

Sorry Boys but 4x 60mm ITB's do not equal 1x 240mm throttle body. 1x 65mm circle has an area of 3,318 mm2 (Stock intake) 1x 60mm circle has an area of 2,827 mm2 (1 single ITB) 4x 2827 = 11,308 mm2, yes this is a huge improvement, but, 1 x 240mm circle has an area of 45,240 mm2, basically 4 times as much... 4x 60mm throttle bodies would be the equivalent of a 120mm single throttle body. That is not even including the fact that not all cylinders will be drawing in air at the same time anyway. The real advantages of ITB's are in throttle response and short runner length = more top end power and quicker response time.

5:31 -- It's actually nothing like a 240mm hole. Proof: the area of a circle is pi * r^2. pi * 30^2 = 2827.43 mm^2. Since there are four ITBs, we multiply this by four to reach 11309.7 mm^2. A 240mm single throttle body would be pi * 120^2 which is 45238.9 mm^2. Having 4x60mm throttle bodies results in a lower volume of air entering the manifold than a single 240mm throttle body. Actually, this volume is smaller by a factor of exactly 4. Hence, you would have four times the air mass entering the manifold with a single large throttle body. In fact, you would need 4x120mm throttle bodies to match the volume of air intake of a single 240mm throttle body. 4 * pi * 60^2 = 45238.9mm^2 pi * 120^2 = 45.238.9mm^2 A circle with radius r is larger than the combined area of n circles of radius r/n. It is larger by a factor of exactly n.

I think he just wasn't getting deep into it. He's only talking about diameter, not area. Donut is mostly for rookie or non car enthusiasts. It's really light compared to watching, for example, a professional engine builder. That shit is dry and hard to follow. There's a reason it doesn't get as many views as this. But hey, maybe they just goofed

5:30 a bit wrong there 4 x 60mm intake channels is not equal to 240mm hole. the area of 4 60mm holes is 0.0452m and the area of a 240mm hole is 0.181 which is FOUR times more

To the experts: if you push the valves down further and for a longer time with an upgraded camshaft, wouldn’t the valves potentially hit the piston head? Would you need to adjust the engine timing to avoid this?

I need to see Zach explain some stuff on cars and James pretend to be confused then Zach says "A MO POWA BABY" and James understands, it would be hilarious.

The power is in the head. You need to get the valveseats a nice new 5- angele cut, maybe bigger valves and the intake and outlet ports surface smoothed and maybe widened... fit between head and intake ports need to be aligned, too. Just putting on a big intake, won´t do it.

I love how the camera pans when the car fires up and it's straight Jawas.

Just a heads up. 4x 60mm circular openings has the same cross section as 1x 120mm circular opening. A=pi × r^2 3.1415926535×(30×30) 2,827.43338815 sq mm Multiply that by 4 Comes to 11,309.7335526 To get the equivalent size circle the final area is equal to, you reverse the steps. 11,309.7335526=pi x r^2 11,309.7335526÷3.1415926535= 3600 = r^2 You then square root each side to get R. Sqrt(3600) = 60 60= r To get diameter you double r since r is the radius. So the diameter is 120mm
