@@truantray everyone knows this is not an official test just a demonstration. The tests that Snell and other helmet testing foundations do back up the finding here. I can't speak to car helmets but motorcyclist magazine did testing on actual testing equipment and At that time they found that Snell offered no extra protection over DOT. This was vack on 2006 I think. They lost a ton of ad revenue from the test but it did spur SNELL to update and rethink their testing procedures and requirements.
@jeepinbanditrider6 жыл бұрын
This is a good read if anyone is so inclined. Keep in mind its an older article and the SNELL standard has been updated since then. Most likely due to this article. motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/MotorcyclistHelmets.html

Its waaaay more complicated. First, I read the article and it was not very well written. Second, I really like Snell BUT these guys are almost making the argument tjat a pricey helmet is always better and that a Snell helmet is always better- and I know those are neither necessarily true. The cool thing about snell is that they certify and they update standards. Third- read the Hurt report. DOT is way past due for update. Fourth- so long as the helmet meets DOT, the two best things you can choose for are full face cover and a really good fit- snug, not too tight, good contact all over, no hot spots. Serious. Except... A $40 Snell approved helmet meets all the same standards a $400 Snell approved helmet does. Aaannd there's been some re-thinking of having such a hard shell due to secondary musculoskeletal issues. Also, a poorly fitting helmet, regardless of certification or price, is bad. Don't do it. Sam Johns an Arai and a Shoei are both rated identically. The former is about $150 and the latter generally starts at $400. The rest is fit, graphics, and venting. And with very few exceptions, the Snell certifications have remaine'd remarkably consistent. I appreciate you guys doing this comparison. One thing I found when doing research for helmets is that you are more likely to smack right on your chin or the back of your head. So testing an impact directly on the top of your head probably isn't an ideal test. Also, you have to factor in how the rest of the body works with the fitment of the helmet. Even if your head is in one piece it doesn't mean your neck isn't broken.
